Johnnie Ray - I'll Never Fall In Love Again
Музыка
Poor Old Johnnie Ray. This was his final hit record - but ... WHAT A SONG! and WHAT A SINGER! Johnnie had seldom been out of the charts throughout the 1950s, but this self-composed song was the last of his decade of hits. With such a stunning arrangement and performance it should have climbed higher. Although there were no further big record sellers, his fans continued to give him loyal support at concert appearances until his death in 1990.

I grew up with a mother who went to see Johhny Ray in Brisbane Aust. & she sang all his songs & this song meant so much to her that a radio station played it for her regulary. She was very sick & this always was her moment of joy listening to Johnny She also was deaf in her left ear. He joins the ranks of the unforgettable singers of the 50's a great era for music. We miss you Johhny.

Great song and singer, brought back thanks to The Great British Sewing Bee
A great singer. Johnnie Ray was a brilliant performer. This song is just lovely.
His voice was so wonderful,, he had a timbre that was so nice to listen to, and a charm a personality that matched his singing talents! This song has a beautiful and emotional appeal to the heart,, sadly,, today's music has no heart,, it needs a transplant!!!
Absolutely FANTASTIC.....Johnnie Ray was a ONE-OFF.
Brilliant voice.... amazing song. I love everything about it.♥
It was a massive hit here in Australia, and deservedly, in the charts for weeks.

How funny! Sadly I missed that Great British Sewing Bee clip and now I wonder if I dare admit I knew this recording from its beginning.... but what the heck, they were Great days and Johnnie Ray helped to make them so!
What a singer. Thank you
A lovely song and I believe he was a very nice person. Thanks for posting.
Never tire of listening and watching this lovely man big fav of mine
Hi Just to sat I met johnnie Ray way back at the Sheffield city hall .I always sat by the lions on stage .Then went round to the stage door .first there .I went in is room and spent a good time with him .what a nice man and a good singer .good days
I will always remember this charming singer and thats his legacy just a sweet person
I remember this song, and hearing it at the end of The Great British Sewing Bee, made me search for it again. Lovely song and great singer.
What a great voice, this made Top 30 in the UK, better than Stateside where I guess he was "old hat" by then (1959). He was VERY unusual for a white guy in that he happily worked-with black artists, hence had a real feel for RnB. So many great records and deserved-hits since 1951, he was HUGELY popular, all despite being deaf in one ear since childhood. In fact by the time of this clip he was very deaf in both ears due to bad surgery, yet he could still perform so well !. An underated genius !
this is one guy I would have loved to hear in person
This brins sooo many memorys back.......
A great memory, how I wish pop music could be like this today! Every word Johnnie Ray sang was audible, he and his orchestra worked together but he always took command. Love hearing this again, thank you kester1940. One day pop music will do the full circle so listen and learn, young ones!
Saw Johnny ray when I was 15 in .Melbourne 1953 still love him
love this song the voice the arrangement and the singer a joy
Passionate Johnnie Ray original went to #1 in Australia where the legendary trailblazing genius was appreciated to the end of his life with sold-out concerts year before his passing...originator of letting it all out performances and authentic rock & soul from a white guy, Johnnie deserves induction to "Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame"!

It's so so so fantastic. Great Music.
Miss Johnnie lot of memories when he sings from years ago
Very great song..and very very singer
Amazing man and song ! So much talent, it couldn't be measured. He was born slightly at the wrong time. There have been few singers and composers as great as him. Thank you for the upload.
Such a lot of feelings as he sings bless him
Love ya, Johnny Ray RIP
what a great clip , what a singer , what a song ! arrrrh johhny ray , truely wonderful . my favourite :)
He is great to watch and listen too
I was a schoolkid in short trousers when I first heard Johnnie Ray: it was/he was a revelation by comparison with the tame popular music of the day. I wonder if I sensed that he was a gay man loosing his emotions to the wind? I saw him twice in Sydney (different tours) -- what a showman!
BRILLIANT! Grew up in Stanningley Leeds in the 50's. My mate 'Thorpie' ( Mike Thorp ) had a brother Terry who had all all the records of the time ,Frankie Laine,Jo Stafford,Kay Starr etc. plus Johnnie Ray . Although this was released in 1959 and we had moved to Bramley the sound still holds great memories of a great time. (If anybody remembers us ,Please e.mail )
A Great Song By The Only Johnny Ray.
Such energy

Wonderful you can understand every pronounced word he just spits them out perfectly you just want to hug him
Sounds like it may have been difficult for them to reproduce the unique Richard Maltby arrangement and studio instrumental sound in live situations. Seem to recall that Johnnie explained that the "bah dah dah dah dah" was created by a xylophone and snare drum striking at exactly the same time. My favourite song !
Que hermosa está canción!! 👏👏🌷🌷🌷🎷🎷🎷🎵🎼🎤

Why wouldn't be Johnnie Ray "father of rock 'n' roll"? He never recorded one true rock 'n' roll. He, in the early times, recorded some rhythm & blues with big orchestra, nothing more.
Thanks so much, I love this!

I see and feel D Bowie in this guy, both great exponents of song

Isn't *The Little White Cloud That Cried* a country song? I mean, it takes place outside in nature.
Para cantarlo yo...... Recuerdo de mi padre y mi madre sobretodo que ya se fue😢
So beautiful song !!!
"Sic transit gloria mundi." His unique, extraordinary style was soon eclipsed by soloists and bands that pushed the envelope even further, and by this time a song and performance like this would have seemed rather tame to the young ladies who were probably going crazy over Elvis and his gyrating pelvis, while people who liked the old crooning style still had Crosby, Sinatra and the rest. So he joins a long list of performers who once were big stars, but now are largely forgotten. Any of you recognize the names Enrico Caruso, Mario Lanza, Jeanette McDonald, Nelson Eddy? One nice thing about KZread, you can still see and/or hear them perform here.

@Toni sumblin Thanks for the thoughts, but actually I DO remember my parents' music, and a lot of my grandparent's music. Not only remember but still love. True, a lot has been forgotten, while on the other hand there are still some who remember the greats of the past, and appreciate even the masters of classical music. This new millennium though, seems like people are mostly just interested in whatever is newest and fewer and fewer have any appreciation for anything older. But the new stuff doesn't seem to have the beauty of the old, let alone the grandeur and spirit. Time doesn't see to be marching on so much as running out. I think I'll live to see the end, one way or the other.
FANTASTIC 👍
What a fantastic singer

SAUDOSO JOHNNY RAY - NO BRASIL TEVE VERSÃO C/SAUDOSO FRANCISCO CARLOS E MAIS TARDE C/NELSON NED - OBRA PRIMA
As the first line in this mentions Johnny Ray, I'd like you to react to "I'll never fall in love again". A really perfect pop song.
Eran jóvenes con apariencia de viejos
It makes me think, there is something s t r a n g e about the talented. He blows it out of the park but the twitching, reminds me of Elvis and Adam Ant, and its not usual.
יוצא מן הכלל.כמה רומנטי.
Máster.
For those of the younger generations watching, thumbs up if Portishead brought you here. Here, have a "biscuit" while you wait.
This was Johnnie s very last No.1 but not is USA or UK, it was in Australia, end of 1959.
Who came here from ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’? 💕
Instrumental original.... Pliz por favor. Hermoso🤗💚
biscuit!
And some called it singing
Three guitar men and an accordion up in back...wonder who they were. In-ear monitors were not a thing back then...I wonder if that is a hearing aid in his ear. He was said to be partially deaf
He was called the nabab of song do any of you what it ment
Strong confident voice - like Bobby Darin? - somehow makes the sobbing in contrast so real. As I understand it he was really the first to be mobbed (in a nice way!) by female fans, like Elvis or a 1-man Beatle?
A great Song But It Sounds Better In Its Original Version From The Recording Studio.

Agreed. The orchestra is all over the place.
Covered by Billy Fury, Portishead sampled it. Elvis was a huge fan. Morrissey copied the hearing aid in recognition on Top of the Pops and Dexy's Midnight Runners sang of him in Come On Eileen.....
