Many of the greats came over after fleeing Nazism. Korngold also wrote “serious” classical music for piano and orchestra but the movie studios paid most of the bills. Max Steiner was 9 years older than EWK and came to New York in 1914 working first on Broadway. Considered the father of film music he was also from Austria. His godfather was Richard Strauss and as a young man had private tutoring from Gustav Mahler. The “old timers” were a transition from the European classical tradition to American popular music for movies.
The transitions are so seamless! Especially going straight from Psycho to Jaws.

Except some Williams fan in the audience eventually who succeded to have one of these very expense tickets, this is one of the worst audience in concert on the whole planet (It's not a joke, and it's, unfortunatly, a well know fact). The feeling that the audience give respect to williams music is unfortunaly not accurate, they don't care. Hello
John Williams, the legend..
Many greats in 5 minutes. Gorgeous arrangement by the undisputed master.
I love it when John Williams grins during the Jaws segment, that also got the biggest applause. That soundtrack made him a music legend. Here his arrangement of Patton and the Magnificent Seven are equally great.
John Williams respects all the other composers and acknowledges them.
John Williams is the king of modern composers! This is truly epic. Probably the best medley ever written. The transitions flow like a river. The most notable and very smooth are: Casabalanca to Citizen Kane; Newman Fanfare to Star Wars, Psycho to Jaws, Out of Africa to Dr. Zhivago, Patton to Rocky, Cinema Paradiso to The Godfather, The Godfather to ET then Gone With The Wind.

Very nice 👍
As of 2020, the only surviving composers that are part of this medley are Bill Conti Andrea Morricone Randy Newman and of course, John Williams. When this was originally performed (2002), the composers still alive at that time were: Malcolm Arnold Bill Conti John Barry Elmer Bernstein Jerry Goldsmith James Horner Maurice Jarre Andrea Morricone Ennio Morricone Randy Newman and John Williams.

So sad, so few of the great Silver and Bronze Age composers left, Jerry could still be with us today do could James Horner.
Espetacular! Verdadeiramente um show! Gratidão!

it's a very beautiful arrangement done originally for the Oscars 20 years ago when the "Maestro" was the conductor for the Ceremony.

@@Martyprod2 I think he did another one later right? I could be wrong but I know he has done quite a bit musically for the movie world outside of film.

@@G-0 I'm not aware that he conducted an another academy award ceremony except the one in 2002. But as a conductor, and composer, outside of film, he did a lot, yes. conducting (before Covid :( ) each year, at the hollywood bowl, from 1984 to 1991 or 92 he was the main conductor of the boston pops / symphony orchestra , he just conducted last year (bluray release in august) the vienna Symphony orchestra in Vienna, with Anne Sophie Mutter (Violin), etc etc...

2002! Look at his huge arm movements and lively conducting! He's really slowed down and is just enjoying music and the moments now and that's so nice to witness. Anyway, what a gorgeous set of pieces, several of which he has composed, previously made award winning recordings of, and very much enjoys. That Godfather to ET transition was so smooth!

Magnífico! A música eleva nosso espírito e faz nossa alma sorrir. Belíssima apresentação!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😍
This man right here put my whole childhood into music and now that I am an adult, he's the one who got that magic to bring me back to that precious time.
The fact that he could've made this entire thing out of his own music is amazing.
The Maestro, pure and simple.
Watching John as each one of his creations came up, you can see him right back in that time. This concert means a lot to him as well
I love how they went seamlessly from one to the other

NOT!!
The transition from Titantic to Psycho to Jaw then to Pink Panther is probably the most clever thing I have ever seen. It is so smooth and so well-integrated yet you can tell the distinction between each masterpiece.
Excellent Director, we remember you. One of the best.
That was beyond exemplary. John Williams is a true legend!🎉
Deslumbrante! Aplausos em pé!!! Gratidão, Maestro Compositor John Williams!
Sensational and you,ll never ever see or hear anything like this ever again, Period !!!!!
I have a friend who loves John Williams' music.
