    Exactly. I was about to say this same thing. His original explanation about it being two words is true if you're speaking about actions. As you say it's 9x19 9mm ammo. Which is not action but a thing. Oh well.

    I'll only add that the 9x19mm Parabellum round was developed specifically for the German Luger automatic pistol back when Germany was still an empire deriving its roots from the Holy Roman Empire, and so the Latin phrase paid homage to that. After the war it became by far the most popular 9mm round, and quite possibly the most popular pistol round of all time.

    The gun stuff at the beginning when John Wick was crafting a revolver was a throwback/reference to "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" when Clint Eastwood's character was cleaning his gun and heard people outside his door. The clicking revolver chamber was from the same movie when Eli Wallach made the same motion constructing his own custom revolver. EDIT: Also, Iron Chef doesn't f*ck around.

  • @tuckerrichardson2606

    @tuckerrichardson2606

    Жыл бұрын

    To add to the other comment on your post, what is timing? Which is what he was checking in the beginning. On a revolver this is all revolvers but older styles like the one in the movie especially, have allot of stuff going on inside them, the cylinder is basically the chamber of the weapon which houses the cartridge when firing, on other styles of firearm the chamber and barrel are of one piece so they are already aligned and ready to go but on revolvers the cylinder is the chamber and the timing of it is talking about how when you pull the hammer back the gears start moving is everything doing its job properly and aligning the cylinder with the barrel. If it is not timed properly then the cylinder will be either a little before or a little after the barrel, which can either mean a misfire at best or the bullet striking the side of the barrel at worst, resulting in a catastrophic failure that you do not want happening while its in your hand.

    The use of Parabellum (literally "for war") as a single word, related to firearms, appears to have originated with the branding of the 9mm Luger (9x19mm) cartridge in the early 1900s. It was...as observed by George...derived from the use of the Latin phrase "Si vis pacem, para bellum" ( if you want peace, prepare for war) which was used as a corporate motto of the manufacturer of the cartridge, and the Lugar pistol, German arms company Deuche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken. Other rounds and weapons subsequently used the Latin "for war" moniker.

Also funny, George accidentally guessed the plot of the 4th film I love that they provide an in-universe explanation for why John Wick, 50 yr old Keanu Reeves, struggled against real life martial arts masters. When you look closely all of Keanu's movements happen before any stuntman in the movie moves. He's older and can't match the movements of trained professionals. Still looks super cool

    Watching the movie this time and seeing Winston hold the gun towards the end I’m wondering if the gun was loaded with blanks. He directed John to that side of the building so he figured that side gave John the best chance of survival. One thing I’ve thought about this film is that guy had every right to attack John in the library for the 14 million dollar bounty. That was for killing Santino’s wife and doubled for killing Santino. The hour was for the excommunicado which meant he had access to all services that were part of the Continental until 6pm.

    There is the high table with the 12 most prominent crime families, and beneath are some organizations like the Bowery which deals with informations, The Continental Hotels which are like a sub contractor etc. There is also no point in killing the Adjudicator, they will just send another one and it would only aggravate the conflict for no reasons

    John Wick is a version of The matrix where Neo was never 'awoken'. Look at the facts, John Wick is a near mythical man of peak human combat skills who lives in a world just below the surface of our own played by Keanu Reeves.The doctor is the same actor who played The key maker in The Matrix reloaded, Laurence Fishburn play a character who leads a gang of people who dress in rags, he helps Wick and even says "we met many years ago, i doubt Mr.Wick remembers..." was this in a past 'cycle' of the matrix..? The lead body guard from the first movie is the same actor who played the lead upgraded Agent in Reloaded.

    10:30 from what I understand, an _Adjudicator_ is like a private detective... they are sent in when something goes wrong to basically figure out who is to blame. in an environment so down-to-business like this, with military-level record keeping and such a level of organization, there's no need to send a full-sized intervention, because if anyone was to mess with this woman in the slightest, they'd all be done for, as it would be expected that everyone up the ladder knows that this woman is sent here, and here she is, so if she fails to report back, that means something happened to her and someone is trying to cover it up. compare this with the movie The Equalizer, where the one guy they send in to sort the mess out is at the same time detective and strike team.... that would be an _Inquisitor_ a lesser operative would be an _Emissary_ or an _Ambassador:_ observe and project directives, but don't intervene.

    Never understood the hatred towards the adjudicator. Like yea she is COLD as ICE but if she didn't do her job she'd most likely be taken out same as everyone else and if someone did kill her then she would just be replaced same as anyone else could. As far as I can tell she has no choice in her actions same as most people in this film. Symptom not the cure type of character that is easily replaced by anyone(edit: within this fictional story of course). She literally is just Winston in a different position...Winston is marked for death over his own leniency and she would most likely be the same if she let up in this movie.

    Parabellum in english is written as one word. In latin it's para bellum (prepare for war, in latin). Which is the second half of the entire phrase "If you want peace, prepare for war". However Parabellum is also a type of cartridge used in firearms...like the 9mm Parabellum.

    @@JaxMerrick - I have the feeling this one might serve as an end. Which isn't to say they won't do a 5th movie (assuming they don't kill Wick off here), but this one will have a definitive ending, unlike the last two movies. We know Reeves is appearing in the spinoff movie, but that takes place before the 4th movie.

    'Parabellum' is like 'full metal jacket'. Both are movie titles, both drove the press crazy trying to figure out the meaning, ad both are references to bullet types. 'Parabellum' is a combat round for a 9mm pistol, 'full metal jacket' describes a rifle bullet whose core is encased in a copper coating.
