@@desk.set. yes, yes they did. This whole movie is about Danny forcing himself to be someone else and making many mistakes. In the beginning you can see the two being happy and clearly loving each other. But as school starts Danny has to act as the classic fuckboy to stay with the homies and put on the act. Sandy kinda “helps” him realize he’s doing a wrong thing but he still makes mistakes throughout the movie. That’s because everyone does😐 The movie is portraying him as somehow the BAD GUY because the whole point is, as I said, showing how he’s forcing himself to be someone he isn’t. If you try canceling this movie or saying it’s toxic/sexist/literally anything else I’m gonna lose my mind

@@ccharmolypi @Msu ! Okay I normally don't respond to comments (I don't normally have the time/want/urge to) but I do just want to say I am in no way trying to cancel this movie. I've seen it many times and it's one of my favorites. I've even read the original script, done read throughs of it, online shows of it, etc. My reply to this was a lighthearted joke abt I personally never thought they had chemistry for the reasons I stated (that I noticed you saw) I hope you have a good day and, no, I will not be responding from here on out! :)

This is one of my Dad's favorite movies, i've probably heard this song alone at least 200 times over my life, be it from radio stations , during car rides, or from when my Mum and Dad would play this for nostalgic reasons

some might see sandy's transformation as problematic, but i think there are some points to raise that show she didn't change for him. for one, when she changes her style, the power dynamic changes - she becomes confident in herself and her role in the relationship is no longer about her sulking in her feeling for dany, and she takes on a more active role - by leading the relationship and being clear in her demands / needs, saying "you better shape up because i need a man" and "you better prove that my faith is justified". she also says "to my heart i must be true" showing that while she changed her clothes, she's still sandy and at her core, she won't change for anyone, not even him.

Maybe problematic for some very young people who doesn't understand even the simplest plotline in movies...Sandy obviously was connecting more with Danny's "gang" then any others at that school allready before this scene, and her transformation is more about finding her true and confident self. If there was someone trying to change to something he's not, it's Danny! Trying to be this sports dude, even though he hate sports and the jocks doing them:p
