John has always fascinated me... On one side, he is a realist and one of the very few people who began noticing strange things about Dutch early on, but on the other, he sometimes seemed to be trying to convince himself that van der Linde was right, somehow, and that the things they did were justified. This is partly why I've always related to him more than I did to Arthur: it took Arthur way more time and thinking to question his loyalty.

John also spent a year in the real world by himself, he got to experience what true freedom with no one telling you anything they want you to hear. Him realizing that Dutch was iffy first makes sense and Arthur taking forever to realize was more him coping than actually trying to see Dutch for what he really was

Nobody is the villain in their story. If we got to play as micah, everyone always want him dead so he has to do what he has to do to be the one left standing, we’d see the underdog in him too.

This really the fight between what his mind is telling him what’s wrong and his heart telling him to be loyal I get it Dutch taught him how to read and saved him when he had no family but what John and Arthur didn’t get was yeah he saved your lives and yeah y’all love him but the dude is insane and he turned y’all killers of course they didn’t know because they believed his silvered tongue that his plans would save them as he saved them before

John's development is too often missed by many people. He's such a great character and we can understand how much he suffered during his outlaw life and after. In rdr1 too he talks about how he suffered for his crimes and the crimes of the gang. I don't really know if in rdr1 he really was meant to not remember this girl, but i suppose in rdr1 he did remember, when he says "people don't forget" he probably also is one of those who don't forget, as hard as he wishes he could. I say that, but they even made john says that he is still trying to forget 0:24 Just to say, i like the way john says "who? " 0:02 , close enough to the first mission about the gunslingers in rdr2 (- jim boy calloway. THE jim boy calloway. - who ? )

I think it's because Dutch is very egotistical. John seemed to be questioning Dutch for a while during the game. Then Arthur started doing the same a lot towards the end of the game, rightfully so, though. While Micah seemed to be doing the opposite. I think of when they captured Bronte and he made the huge mistake of saying things to Dutch, like that he was nothing and does nothing, then bets his men wouldn't even be loyal. That's what I think made Dutch become so brutal after Bronte says that stuff.

Tbh, it's one of the reasons i don't have a high opinion about dutch's character in rdr2. Dutch always was crazy in a way and quite a manipulator, but in rdr2, he seems to be easy to manipulate, and micah is hated by the whole gang, since the beginning of the game arthur told his doubts to dutch about blackwater being an embuch while being micah's idea... Just that i think it's not that well made

Some people mistake ass kissing for friendship and criticism for hatred. Micah kept telling Dutch what he liked to hear while his real friends kept pointing out his mistakes. Dutch was one of those people so he saw Micah as his friend and everyone else who didn't kiss his ass whenever he did something wrong as traitors.
