John Rutter: For the beauty of the earth

Музыка

Vocal Arts Academy (Emily Crocker, director). 2013-January-28.
John Rutter, born in London and educated at Clare College of Cambridge University, is known as the founder of the Cambridge Singers, as a choral conductor, and as a masterful arranger of songs, anthems and carols. His own compositions, written in a traditional style, are almost exclusively choral, but also include large orchestral works, opera, pop and light music, and music for BBC television. "For the Beauty of the Earth," published in 1980, was written for Rosemary Heffley and the Texas Choral Directors' Association. The text is by F. S. Pierpoint (1835-1917).

I’m looking through all of my choirs songs from last year and I remember, when our teacher showed us this song, I was instantly in love. This might sound cringy as I was 12 at the time but I made me want to cry because of how beautiful it was. Today in the shower I was singing songs and remembered how much I loved this song, so I instantly got on youtube and it makes me miss singing this song so much

For the beauty of the earth For the beauty of the skies For the love which from our birth Over and around us lies Over and around us lies Lord of all, to thee we raise This our joyful hymn of praise For the beauty of the hour Of the day and of the night Hill and vale and tree and flower Sun and moon and stars of light Sun and moon and stars of light Lord of all, to thee we raise This our joyful hymn of praise For the joy of human love Brother, sister, parent, child Friends on earth and friends above For all gentle thoughts and mild For all gentle thoughts and mild Lord of all, to thee we raise This our joyful hymn of praise For each perfect gift of thine To our race so freely given Graces human and divine Flow'rs of earth and buds of heav'n Flow'rs of earth and buds of heav'n Lord of all, to thee we raise This our joyful hymn, our joyful hymn of praise This our joyful hymn of praise

I remember singing this song when I was in 6th grade almost 15+ years ago. I remember how much I loved this song. I’m so happy I found it again, it’s a beautiful hymn of praise to our Heavenly Father. Our king of Kings and Lord of Lords, may the Glory be His forever and ever. It brought so many tears to my eyes.

I had not heard this wondrous hymn until recently by way of the World Famous Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. I fell in love with its melody & hopeful lyrics & began searching for other renditions. IMHO, The Vocal Arts sound the very best of all the Utube videos I have listened to. . .And for a relatively small choir made up of youth they bring a unique sound & heartfelt feeling beyond compare.

Original last two verses: For Thy Bride that evermore Lifteth holy hands above, Offering up on every shore This Pure Sacrifice of Love: Christ, our God, to Thee we raise This our Sacrifice of Praise. For Thy Martyrs' crown of light, For Thy Prophets' eagle eye, For Thy bold Confessors' might, For the lips of Infancy: Christ, our God, to Thee we raise This our Sacrifice of Praise. For Thy Virgins' robes of snow, For Thy Maiden Mother mild, For Thyself, with hearts aglow, Jesu, Victim undefiled, Offer we at Thine own Shrine Thyself, sweet Sacrament Divine.
