The way he talked about his dad and how he would always fix things and wanted to teach him how to repair things. That reminded me of my Grandpap on my dads side and how no matter what, everyone would say “I don’t know, take it to pap he’ll know how to fix it.” As a little kid it was like he was magic, and could fix anything; plus he always had batteries for all of our toys! He has been gone for 25 years, I was 14 when he passed, I really wish we had more time with him!

Made my first custom clothes with 13. Nowadays I build my own chicken shed including a wooden door (out of scrap wood). Where I live you can't get everything in a store or get someone to get the job done. I am still very thankful for the skills I got from my parents ❣ By the way... I am 68 and a woman 😉

I'm sorry you go through that. I don't know the reason why you and your father's relationship is like that but I have the same relationship with my brother and sister. My reason is they never loved me and I'm not a bad person and never did anything to them. They both are alcoholics so that is the only reason I can come up with to understand it. It hurts and sometimes things can change but in my case I've just accepted it is the cards I've been dealt.

Sometimes thats what it takes to survive a parent who has been toxic. Men can drag baggage from their own toxic childhoods into parenting , without even realizing . Because they were taught to keep issues to themselves and “man up”. Have you seen Terry Crews new book, “ Tough” ? Get it. Such an inspiration. What an unbelievably incredible transformation he was able to make, eventually. Wishing you peace.

Thank you for speaking about respecting craftsmen (&women ; especially seamstresses aka my Grammy Sammy Shepard). Yesterday years kept children as young as 3 making skirts & crocheting knitting homespun sheared steeped woolen sweaters. Peace be with you!

I remember having a Mack toy and my uncle gave me that toy. Sadly my uncle passed away recently so I kinda have a soft spot for that character. After listening to john ratzenberger talking about his father driving a Mack truck I feel like that character is like a love letter or something. Maybe there is a better word for what am saying but I like that Mack character.
