The reason I love JOJ is because he has way more variation in the colour/intonation of his voice. Like, his Music of the Night is SO smooth and seductive it's ridiculous.

I absolutely love how John pushes himself through the mist at 3:24, it adds to the Phantom's ghostly nature.

Danny Ashforth okay so you must be thinking of Gerard Butler because Ramin hits the softer perfectly he puts a lot of feeling in his performances. I highly doubt ALW would've hand-picked him to play Phantom in 25th anniversary if he didn't put feeling in his performance or wasn't hitting the softer notes right.

Have seen brilliant John Owen Jones several times as the Phantom and he was amazing, easily the best I have ever seen..

JOJ has a warm sound and a more gentle way to possess. It is a great contrast to Ramin's more dark and enchanting way. Both make Phantom alive to us

This is the first on-stage Phantom I’ve seen that exudes sensuality, and I’m not mad about it. Very sexy Phantom. JOJ knows how to pull it off well.

This is the voice of the phantom for me. Love this mans singing I feel he does it perfectly.

I think John is among the more talented and versatile actors in this role... Hell of a pair of lungs.

I love many phantoms, and quite a few Christines. To me this is vocally the best pairing in the 30+ years of this show

I saw John Owen Jones as the Phantom last Thursday at Her Magesty's Theatre and he was awesome!! The way he licks his lip like that is just so hot.

John Owen Jones is my fave Phantom since I first heard him singing with Sarah& the other Phantoms at the 25th anniversary.He directly enchanted me with his voice.So glad that I found this version with my fave Phantom [sorry Ramin] & my fave Christine

John has an excellent voice, he is my favorite Phantom , he sings every phrase in the manner it was written. Ramin is excllent too.

Michael Crawford is forever my favorite Phantom - the almost angelic quality of his tenor coupled with the forboding and tragedy he brought to his performance - the stuff of magic. But JOJ - just sensational. The moment he belts out "Sing once again with meeee" - left me completely mesmerized. Fucking magnificent, and this is just a small slice of a great show. What a treat it would be to see him perform it from start to finish.

This. No one, like NO ONE compares to Michael and his performance as the phantom. He visualised the character from the first time ALW played him the Overture, he was obsessed with the movement and use of his hands to convey the Phantoms torment and vocally he absolutely nailed every song and the emotions give me goosebumps

​@Bex Lane Crawford is absolutely exquisite. Homie won that Tony for a reason. He performed "Phantom Of the Opera" with a female singer about a decade ago in a televised performance - his presence during that performance was incredible. He was in a simple black suit, no makeup or anything of course, but he embodied the Phantom with every thread of his soul, so fantastic. I've always loved his Phantom, and his will always be my favorite, but occasionally there's that particular performer that makes you just kind of pause in awe. John Owen is 100% that dude. Just amazing.

I looooooove him! He's acting the Phantom so sexual and I love love love his voice. And that Lip lick at 2:52 is so awesome lol

I disagree about the voice. JOJ's voice is beautiful but much more traditional. He sounds like any romantic gentleman in musical theatre. Ramin's voice has much more vocal "ping", which makes him seem more powerful, and his voice is much more unique, which makes him more mysterious.

There are no words that can complement Sierra boggess accurately. Her voice says it all she is the real Christine. Magical!

I like JOJ as the phantom more (despite how dreamy and electric Ramin is ) because this is essentially a story of a young girl beguiled/groomed by an older gentleman (which JOJ pulls like boss). The apparent age difference has be there for the story to have that kick in the stomached!

I will always love Crawford Wilkinson put the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera Panaro's acting is unmatched Ramin's emotional delivery is just pure rawness although his phans are a bit much. But vocally, JOJ is better than all of them. His range is out of this world not to mention he is in complete control of his entire performance and his voice itself is out of this world.

Recently, I got myself a DVD of The 25th anniversary of The Phantom Of The Opera in which Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess were in it. Also I bought a Phantom movie made in 2004 on DVD 📀 which Gerald Butler and Emmy Rossum. were in it . Now I also want to get myself the stage drama of The Phantom of the Opera played by Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman, also the one which John Owen Jones and Sierra Boggess in it as well as the one which Sierra Boggess and Hugh Panaro perform.

I don't know why everybody is saying that Sierra sounds sick. She sounds perfectly normal to me. Obviously, the click track that they used at RAH is going to sound a lot more powerful and louder than what her mic would pick up here singing live. This performance is a confirmed live one. And I thought she nailed the E6... the number of Christines that have actually been confirmed to have sung that E6 live are very few, though they obviously have to be able to hit it somewhere. But I guess the ones that become Carlottas have the least trouble with it... I think I love JOJ's voice more than any other man's I have ever heard. He's really excellent vocally. And I liked the lip-licking he did lol

@@sxyghost8266 I agree with your preference too. And yes, this is confirmed live and it's the only performance off the top of my head where I know of any Christine singing it live. We can guess that it has at other times, of course. And yes haha, it is pretty hard to tell without confirmation, but most of the time, Sierra's click track specifically sounds pretty obvious to me. And it's probably because we've heard it so much!

I saw sierra play fantine and thought my life was complete, then I saw this and realized my bucket list consists solely of seeing JOJ live

If wasn't for that rubbish "love never dies" and cameron mackintosh stabbing him in the back after years of dedication he put into both Phantom and Les Mis, he would have played the phantom in that concert with Katie Hall as christine, as it should have been. John & Katie actually matched the characters phantom/christine in all aspects unlike other casts people gush about.

But most importantly he actually suited the character including in age, acting and voice. Gillian Lynne herself knew that JOJ is the best phantom. It should have been him, but the boomer mercenaries ALW and Mackintosh wanted the nonsense "love never dies" duo, also ramen is considered "attractive" which is so shallow and totally opposite of what POTO is about. JOJ deserved so much better after all the dedication and hard work he put into the show.

The role is one any musical theater actor would kill to have, and every Phantom actor I’ve ever seen has given it their absolute all, no need to tear one down just to lift another up. I love John and I wouldn’t have been upset at all if he had been the one chosen for the 25th show, but I love Ramin too and thought he did an amazing job. And please let’s not pretend that Ramin is the only Phantom actor that women find attractive . Women were swooning over Crawford back in the day and don’t tell me that JOJ is not freakin attractive as the Phantom because that’s a load of bull! 😆

I'd believe that, even though I don't know if it's true or not lol. JOJ has the BEST voice, honestly. If I had to imagine the perfect male singing voice, his would be it. Ramin's voice is edgier and less trained. But Ramin and Sierra have the best chemistry of any Phantom/Christine pairing I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot of them...I think they play off each other very well when they're acting, to the point where they can anticipate each other.

I personally love that he doesn’t have that perfectly trained sound, just pure amazing raw talent which is even more of a testament to him. Sierra is perfection just like Ramin so it’s a match made in heaven 🤷‍♀️ can’t get any better then that duo. They are the only ones that are believable for me, and Ramin’s portrayal brings me to tears. Cannot believe so many people hate on him 🤣. Not only that but he is such a wonderful person in real life, just an all around amazing talent and person 🤷‍♀️

I am not bothered about previous comments saying Sierra held back her awesome, beautiful voice. What makes my day is finding my favourite Phantom and favourite Christine singing together, what could be better than that, it's shear bliss.

A comcert of music and interpretation that lacks words very good.

This is a completely different interpretation of the dynamic than you see with Ramin Karimloo , Michael Crawford (or any of the others). I love how each Phantom relates to "his" Christine in a unique way (and as his partner, Sierra Boggess follows their lead with confidence and charisma).

Okay. These two are excellent! Maybe the best pairing for the Phantom so far. Just the right timbre and both Jones and Boggess lite vibrato is perfect!

I had never seen JOJ's Phantom until recently and I really like him. This was a great performance from him and Sierra.

I saw it 1990 in Hamburg and it was breathtaking!

Sierra is lovely but here, she seems to be either sick or for some reason, she's holding back. Ramin and his chemistry and acting with her(Sierra) exceeds John's but John's vocal abilities are better

Life According to Me I think it’s because She’s done it so many times since 2011 she’s vocally improved. But agreed.... still a queen tho!!

Do you guys know how hard it is to hit those notes and have that much control. I did it and it feels like you’re doing like 50 sit ups in a row. That one was live. The other one you saw probably for 25th anniversary was most likely recorded.

Siena Shawver I think she sounds lovely during all of her performances, I’ve watched multiple videos of her singing it live and while it’s not her best in my opinion, it is still phenomenal! ☺️
