John Mayer Tones On A BUDGET | BLUES DELUXE To Get Where The Light Is Tone

Ойын-сауық

This is my my best attempt at getting a tone as close to Mayers 2007 WTLI tone from the continuum tour. I give the sound clips but then dive into how to get these tones for yourself. I go over what pedals you definitely need and which you might not. Give this video a thumbs up if you found it helpful!

You really got a beautiful tone here! The gain-y tones are kind of easy, it just comes from the pedal, but the hardest part is getting that gorgeous, warm, fat, round clean amp tone that serves as the base of everything. And I must say you achieved that in spades!! Well done!! I actually used to have a Blues Deluxe but as my high school rock band back in the day kept getting louder and louder on stage, the Blues Deluxe just couldn't keep up anymore, so I sold the amp and upgraded to the Blues DeVille 4x10. Now that thing is a MONSTER!!

You did well. I have been chasing the Mayer tone for a long time. I have a Silver sky, dumble clone amp and some pedals. Sounds great and you have gotten really close. I'd say 70% of the tone is trying to capture the nuances in his playing. That gets super close but it's fun to chase.

@@maxmarchetti6562 The dumble clone I got was the VHT D-Fifty with a D'Lator type pedal running in the effects loop. I can push the amp pretty hard with moderate volumes for bedroom and still gets the nice mushy but bright amp sag. With the Silver sky you need a boost to get the sound close with the volume rolled off Suprisingly I can get pretty close with my PRS MT15 on the clean channel and a Joyo Taichi pedal. But doesn't have the 3d effect as the VHT does.

Spot on brother - both tone, the pedals you have used (and how you have used them). The Mooer Blues Crab is a ridiculously good pedal - I have A/B it with an original BB1 I used to own ... and ... sold the BB1! For that Continuum Gravity/Slow dancing tone, a BB1 (or clone like the Blues Crab) is what is at ... as you have clearly demonstrated in your video.

No mention of Keeley mod Blues Driver, which I'm fairly certain he used in most of the Trio album. I think TS into BD-2 was the core of the 'Who Did You Think I Was' tone, for example. Did he drop it completely in Where the Light Is?

I agree Keeley modded BD2 was the main OD2 for the trio and he did use a bit on the continuum tour but I can't find anywhere 100% saying he used It for the where the light is concert (but I do know he used the BB for a fact)

For apartment volumes I think Princeton is the way to go (12 watts vs 40 watts in HRD). Aside from that its a tough call but I would stay with HRD because overall its more versatile

  • @maxmarchetti6562

It really is a great delay especially considering the cost. For the repeats, I have the knob almost all the way down which just does 1 repeat, and for blend I keep it low, around 30-40%. Also though keep in mind pot tolerances do vary so what is 30% for me could be 25% - 35% for you.

    Жыл бұрын

Id say it depends on if you play live or not - for live I think the clean boost is a useful tool but if not then the delay is definitely more versatile. Also if you're just at home its easy to replicate the boost with any OD pedals's volume turned up to boost into the amp.
