yep! a good guitar straight in a good tube amp. Thats how i really became a good guitar player. Having to controll your guitar to sound good instead of having 100 pedals doing the job for you of even "masking" your mistakes . learn how to roll back on your guitar volume to have a great clean out of a crunch channel . And it also made me good at acoustic guitar as there is nothing more "raw" than acoustic guitar playing. ✌😎

@Rob919Gore Sure. If you practice your guitar without an amp, then you cannot hear the nuances so you pick too hard, too miuch pressure on both hands. Then if you use too much thumb (left hand) wrap around the neck, no so great for bending, smooth vibrato etc. Alternate picking. Even John Mayer had this problem but we fixed it. Holding pick too tight. Should hold a pick with less pressure. but I see more and more people got bad habits. Tomo

John Mayer is a 100% rock and roll hall of famer. World class song writer and the best guitarist in the world at his age, and it isn’t even close. Eric Clapton himself said “he’s in the master class” and “he doesn’t even know how good he is”

As much as Tomo is great , your statement is incorrect. I hated John before I learned and knew his playing. He will go down in history as one of the greats. He’s the only one I’ve seen sit with BB or Buddy Guy and nail their sound and style immediately. No one else could come close and BB knew it. He can play it all which is why he saw art and a challenge in playing with the dead. Mayer realized that you’re not playing the song or notes but you’re playing the band. Now that’s a challenge and to the most critical fan base. It was an uphill , cards stacked against him, challenge. He has won the hearts by “ shedding light and not to master” and humbling himself with Bobby and the fans. It’s wonderful to watch night after night.

but.. to understand to produce best tone with you and gears. You need to play with good old Fender Black Face (vintage) amps, tubes, speakers. And blues! (listening and practicing.) Most people play things too fast. Not enough practice staging. You are right about gears. Thanks for watching! Tomo
