JM is the real deal. I'm 60. I was lucky enough to see all the greats except Jimi. In my humble opinion JM belongs in the top tier of guitarists. The work he's doing with Dead and Company is phenomenal. Somehow he's managed to capture Garcia's essence while making it own. This video alone proves the validity of my statement.

He has a great idea of what he wants to play and his skills allow him to do it on the spot. That kind of ear-hand coordination is what makes someone a great guitarist.

I can't improve on the comments so I'll just agree. John kills it with the improv. The strat us gorgeous and what a fucking sound. what I love most about JM, and Eddie Vedder, is their absolute respect for what came before. Call them covers but they sure sound like respect to me.

I love this version of this song. The song itself gives the impression that the songwriter is happy about the breakup and basically saying "good riddance," and then John adds this bittersweet element in the song that Clapton might not have initially intended.

John Byers nope he switches into G minor during some bits of the solo to give it a bluesy feel, he does it with lots of other songs and if the song is minor then he goes to the relative major and plays in the minor of that

Sure there’s some songs where live he plays the solo based on the studio recorded solo but if you’ve watched liveshows of him playing you notice that not once ever he plays the same exact solo twice. He always switches it up either partly or just the complete solo, and it’s always him just playing what comes up to him. Literally every blues guitarist does that, it’s not a weird thing, even I do it when I play live…
