Yeah I've been asleep musically when I put my hands on, kind of expecting to play something. He touched it in this by saying, what would YOU play? Instead of something you've heard before. Ive also noticed his practice method is like pick a key, and think of some sort of progression in that key. I learned so much throughout the video. “What if I make a mistake “. His comment, so what you made a mistake, just keep playing till you get it right is his encouragement. 😊. After watching the video and I went straight for my guitar and practiced from the enthusiasm I felt from watching him.

Dear John. I'm 65. The guys I liked best were Jerry Garcia and Dickie Betts. Of course many others - you know them better than me. But - as a kid, I used to daydream about just hanging out with Jerry and messing around on guitar. Of course that would never happen - the guy is Jerry Garcia fer cryin' out loud. So this video is cool - nice of you to do. Thanks. You took the lead (Ha - get it - took the lead!) and became the player I like to listen to the most a few years back. If you ever need a pedal steel player that hasn't played outside his bedroom in the last 40 years, I'm your man. Have a nice day.

The coolest part (and granted I only watched the first 15 min) that hes getting at is to know your pentatonic Modes. You can go to the dominant mode or Ionian mode in either direction from the minor pentatonic. Then you can get really creative, and add in Dorian, Phrygian scale shapes where the standard minor pentatonic scales resides, of course being able to drop into their actual respective positions. Great stuff that he’s hitting on

All of my musician buddies give him tons of credit. He plays with world class muscisians, Steve Jordan, Pino, Clapton, The Dead...They all give him credit. I've seen him live 3 times, up close. He's a phenominal player. His tone is fantastic too.

The power of giving and sharing. Thanks John
Thank you John, I needed a lil inspiration today and that was exactly what I needed.
Love your playing. You are on of my favorite players. Thank you for sharing and helping others to be better on the guitar.
This Dear is just amazing to have done that , that s the best think you can do for fans, and guitarists tribute .. respect John Mayer
Thanks John the guitarist of my generation
Can we just talk for a second about how impressive it is the way he effortlessly switches between playing with a pic and playing with his fingers. Look at the way he hides his pick in between his fingers and then pulls it out at will. it's a lot harder than it looks!

It’s actually pretty easy but very effective. You hold the pick between your index and middle finger and you don’t even have to grip that hard it’s great and works brilliantly for me

I been playing blues for 15 years, this is one of the best lessons out there.
I like how this is a masterclass in blues guitar but also a masterclass in predicting the ending of Dateline. Truly multi-talented.
I'm not a guitar player myself, but I love you sharing your knowledge and giving back to other musicians, John. Thanks so much! Definitly showing this to my dad =)
John you are a legend man. Good job.
The man is a genius. Thank you John for sharing your knowledge and insight. Be safe.
Great stuff, and very kind of you to share this secrets to the blues. I've been talking and discovering this myself, but you've synthesized and clearly showed the path to everybody. Great
it really speaks to who he is as an artist that he put out this kind of content on his social media to teach and inspire so many people. the man is really about the music and you can hear it in every note.
One of the best guitarists ever. Amazing
Thanks, John Mayer, for the humor and knowledge share.
Man thank you so much, awesome video and learning so much without all the talking of a typical lesson
Thank you so much John..inspirational insight..you were the spark I needed to take me to that next level of understanding! :))
Dude, I can't play the guitar for shit... a few chords... and this was the most enjoyable thing I've seen in forever. Thanks for the insight into the magic you amazing musicians create.
John's really out here doing great things for us.
Instant happiness.... I could listen for hours to John playing and explaining. Even if you would never achieve his level of playing, the structure and basic concept is crystal clear. He not only teaches guitar, he also teaches "how to become a better musician"... I always watch in shock & awe how his right hand technique becomes a ritme section. Thanks John!

I love watching him play. You can literally see the passion he has for guitar in his eyes and face as he's playing. Then that clean blues sound comes out lol niceee you are an inspiration brother thanks.

I just stumbled onto this today. My gosh, John Mayer is so much fun to watch. He enjoys playing and yet humble enough to want to teach what he does. I learned so much throughout the video. “What if I make a mistake “. His comment, so what you made a mistake, just keep playing till you get it right is his encouragement. 😊. After watching the video and I went straight for my guitar and practiced from the enthusiasm I felt from watching him.
I've learned so much from this guy.
Dont get tired of John Mayers playing.
I wish he would discuss his thinking and ideas when he was doing I'm Gonna Find Another You intro in Where the Light Is. That was an amazing intro and very jazzy. I've always wanted to hear his ideas when approaching jazz/advanced blues

Ive been playing guitar for 36 years. Some things he showed I knew, and some things i didn't, but I needed to see every second of this. 36 years of playing and I'm finally getting satisfied with my own playing. Thank you Mr. Mayer!!... Whens the next lesson sir? Lol Much thanks n love to ya... ✌
Whoa!!!!!!! Pure gold from the masters mind!
During quarantine this saved my life
I just rewatched this, he plays left and right. That's genius
didnt know you were this chill kinda dude,Ive learned so much about being verbal with the guitar. Your so humble man and rockin how you feel .sometimes I dont play for a while and get back on the guitar and all this playing comes out ,cos I missed it and have shit to say. Other wise I have a hard time learning cos I only play when I feel a mood for playing.

I asked the question on 31:20 and I fill accomplished for life. I got a “private lesson” from one of the masters. Thanks for sharing this video!!
Awesome lesson John, thank you for sharing!! :)
Frickin' great man!
Watching John Mayer, guitar legend, learn new things and discover sounds is just delightful. And also intimidating as a supposed intermediate guitar player like myself. What I would give to get a one-on-one lesson with John.
This is gold.
This guy is such a great teacher
So very cool to get thus from Mr. Mayer. You are as per Eric Clapton, a virtuoso. Thank you for your gracious efforts to teach the rest of us. Dan Noga of "Trainwreck"
Dear John.

Sam Rogers if I remember right. He has been touring with Dead and Friends. Which is Bob and who ever is wanting join in the fun. Johns roll is Jerry’s part. So it’s great to what he’s picked up from those old dogs to make his own. And I hear the show is a killer.
Guitar---easy to play and ohhhhh so difficult to master. Thank you so much for this demo segment, John Mayer!
Thanks a lot.. from Bariloche 🇦🇷❤

which sounds like Albert King and Freddie King. the blues goes on and on. as it should.
Is it weird that I was sitting here with my guitar in my lap much as he was describing just trying little things he was doing (in a more simple way of course) but I fell right into the golden girls jam? lol Also, Imagine if other guitar greats took the initiative not just to give us great music, but actively work to bring others into their world like this. There are no secrets with this guy. What was once a big mystery doesn't have to be anymore for a lot of people if he keeps this up. This is the kind of thing keeping the guitar alive today.
That solo u played during "Crossroads" with Eric was a thing of beauty!
yea ive learned my lesson....and its to enjoy watching john play and leaving my guitar i the case.
Such a brilliant guitarist
love that guitar
Meanwhile I see adverts on this video for Masterclass.... This is the real masterclass!
I love how he always thinks outside the box. You da man John.
"Just slide into the first note.. duh" So simple, yet my mind is blown.
I’m nowhere near this skill level yet, but I could watch John play guitar all day
Still awesome to watch
Love Johns humor. Great lesson. I just thru all my shit out the window and taking up needle point. Thanks!!!
dear John you are seriously one of the coolest, down to earth guys around. All the crap you get is unwarranted. Please just continue being a beasts on the guitar and a beautiful human.
I love it. Thanks, John. Nice to help me get thinking another way. So, what your saying is, play below the equator and make tasty decisions.
You got to love a guy like Mayor who's a master, could rest on what he's got but he just gets better and better and discovers things.
Great stuff that he’s hitting on
I went and learned the scales and now everything what he is saying makes sense to me
Great tips! Thanks!
Cool video! Got me inspired to go play some guitar now! 🎸 love playin the blues 🚬 lol
Say what you want about Mayer, he has INCREDIBLE feel. I cant help but dance a little in my seat hearing him play that blues shuffle.
He’s a really good teacher 👨🏫
Man, this is so cool to hear how he thinks about improvising!
I learned from this lesson. I learned that I'm not an intermediate player.
Go, Go Gadget fingers! 🎸🔥
