I laugh at those who deny his skills when he is truly an amazing guitar player. You may not like him or his music, but saying he's "an average guitar player" is utter ignorance.

He is. But a guitar player can't be a broad legend nowadays, there just isn't the same sized main stream that there was in the days of Jimi Hendrix or Eddie Van Halen. Nowadays, most legends are confined to their genre/fan base.

you know hes like 35 and has been playing guitar 20 years right? At least you didn't outright hate on him, but hes one of the best around these days for sure. Other generations were loaded with amazing players, we only got a few. and there is only one John Mayer

One of the best of our time. I think its great that John Mayer brings out all these old classics at his concerts. He, it seems, has more fun playing all these old, great, and timeless tunes. He is educating a new generation on old school GREAT music. God Bless him.

This is by far my favorite rendition of this song, it's the "I don't give a fuck" attitude that makes it an extraordinary performance, even when not "perfect" on the technical side of music.

Luis Mejia sure. But not in that sense. He‘s an excellent player. He also is very concerned about how he is perceived and his expressions are very acted and premeditated. Jimi Hendrix, BB King... those guys actually didn‘t give a fuck.

There may be many people who play at or above his technical level.. John Mayer's 'feel' - a thing which cannot be taught - that's what's so special about him, and puts him a notch above many other players. I'd even rank him above Clapton in that arena, and I love Clapton's playing, I just feel it more from J.M. So, yea, you may be right, technically, but technical doesn't reach people, unless the people are Jazz..

I love the way of him to play the guitar. he's very good and does with passion!

I don't understand how people don't respect this guy's talent! Who cares what he's like in his private life, he's a great guitarist/songwriter, and he surrounded himself with a great rhythm section ,(John Mayer Trio,(also Don Henley's rhthym section) although I don't see them in this video. I like his interpretation. He uplifted a fairly sullen song,and the solo was awesome,from improvisation to phrasing!

Classical players just cant comprehend his playing. It takes a talented to tell a story and convey that feeling and emotion through an improvised performance like mayer does. Classical players are trained to do as a sheet of paper has told them to do.
