John Lennon Statue Unveiled in Penny Lane Liverpool

A John Lennon statue which has travelled the world has returned to Liverpool.
The bronze statue was sculpted by Laura Lian and cast by the Castle Foundry. It was installed at the end of Penny Lane today, where it will remain for six months.
Laura said: “I was inspired by John’s way of turning away from the stuffy establishment born out of post-war and waving a new banner of peace for us to follow. I hope my statue of John Lennon will inspire a new generation to John’s and Yoko’s message of peace.”
The statue was previously temporarily set up outside St George's Hall in 2019 and has since been around the world carrying its message. The Beatles statue has also been a frequent Glastonbury staple and has secured funding to remain installed in Liverpool for six months.
However, to remain in the city it would require further funding to remain indefinitely. The statue is said to embody the energy of "peace and love" established by John and Yoko in the 1960s.
Lian said she hopes the statue will inspire a new generation to let go of "old paradigms of war and violence and embrace a pattern of peace and friendship." The statue will have a QR code placed so people can scan and donate to the Penny Lane Development Trust.

@@johnmc3862 ... Paul stated that there was only one time John took the time to mention to him personally that he really like one of the songs he came up with: “Once. Once John gave me a compliment,” McCartney, 76, recalled on “60 Minutes” in a segment airing Sunday. “It was only once the whole time.” “It was ‘Here, There and Everywhere,'” the Wings singer revealed. “John says just as it finishes, ‘That’s a really good song, lad. I love that song.’ And I’m like, ‘Yes! He likes it!’ ” Now, there's also a Lennon interview in which he felt that Paul was not always sensitive to his song writing skills, and that was during the writing for "Elenor Rigby," Paul needed two more verses and instead of asking Lennon directly for help, he told John, George and the engineers in the room to "please finish the lyrics to the song" and then left the studio... again, John states that Paul didn't even mention "John's" name and didn't even look at him, he directed the request to all in the room... and John felt insulted and insecure about Paul after that, and he said "Paul could be very insensitive to we, the rest of the band." Paul also claims he complimented John many times, usually after a few beers... so who knows!

It's great but, given that it is pretty much common knowledge that Paul wrote 'Penny Lane', it would have been more appropriately placed almost anywhere else in Liverpool...The obvious choice being Beaconsfield Road, at Strawberry Fields. I wouldn't blame Paul for feeling slightly snubbed at this rather clumsy misjudgement....And, just to add, I'm not sure where Councillor Richard got his Beatles history facts from, but he seems to have reinvented them for his own ends.

Oh, the irony! John Lennon didn't write Penny Lane and wrote not one word or note in the song. In fact, he ridiculed Paul McCartney for the song and actually hated it.

@@johnmc3862 no ? It’s right there on tape. John left the whole country behind. McCartney has busted his ass keeping the Beatles legacy alive for 60 years now. Paul was proud to be a Beatle- still is. So is Ringo. John talked about how embarrassing everything they did was. Why not put both of them there? John and Paul as young men? Nah because this is bs optics

That does not look like John at all, he would not stand like that in a sexually suggestive, arrogant pick-up artist pose, his hair expertly coiffed and blow dried, with a sock stuffed in his pants and a leering stare. Trashy, crass, commercial art. I guess at least the pigeons will appreciate it LOL
