As a Bostonian I can back him up that people always exaggerate the accent when they try it. It’s actually more subtle than you think. Kinda laid back. Or maybe we just feel that way because we’re from here.

What amazed me, was how different the Boston accent is from the Worcester accent. I'm not from there, but lived there for about 15 years and you can tell the difference. I think you're right though. It is more subtle than most people do it, but it's not subtle in general, which is why I think people tend to exaggerate it.

@@somersetcace1 yeah I grew up just south of Worcester and it’s definitely different there. I live in Boston now and still have my central Massachusetts accent, but can slip into Bostonian easily enough. If you’re not from around here though it’s hard to imitate. I probably couldn’t get Kentucky or Texas right though so 🤷♂️

I love when actors try to explain their original accents and then slip into them for the rest of the conversation. Like they don't start off talking with them but once it's acknowledged that they originally spoke like that, or explain where they are from, they get trapped in it.

I love it when the interviewer vibes well with the person they are interviewing. Stephen is great at interviewing people but it’s nice when he doesn’t have to do all of the work and it’s an actual conversation
He really deserves all of these beautiful things that are happening in his life right now. He’s a really truly talented actor and an amazing human being.

As someone from the UK, I find it amazing how a country so big as America, the accents and dialects between regions are so similar (what I mean is it is easy to understand all the American dialects once you have heard one), In the UK you can go 30 minutes down the road from your hometown and can't understand anyone.

Sometimes if I'm watching a movie with actors from England, I feel I need subtitles. Or maybe it's because you don't speak as loudly as we do over here.😂🤣 Then we have many English actors in American TV shows that pull off a good American accent to the point where you wouldn't know.

in america, if you travel for 2 hours, you never see more than one accent. in britain, if you travel for 2 hours, you see 10 different regional chocolates, the name for a bread roll changes 19.5 times, and 28 mispronunciations of the word “croissant”

Dominik Beitat+ I don't think people in one region of the US have a problem understanding each other. But there are regional accents in the US (and in Canada) that are easy to hear, especially if you are from North America. Some are more pronounced than others, and the Boston accent is one that is very strong. If you've ever listened to President John Kennedy, that's a strong Boston accent. If you've ever listened to Bernie Sanders, that's a strong New York City accent (Brooklyn, actually). If you've ever seen the TV show Columbo in English, Peter Falk has a strong New York City accent. I could go on, but yes, there are regional accents here.

I grew up in Pittsburgh and lived in NYC and Honolulu for large periods of times. I was a major tour operator and traveled the world to 113 countries. Only twice was I identified as a Pittsburgh native, once in Capetown South Africa and once in Bali! Both times the person who identified me was a fellow Pittsburgher on vacation ! Lol! The reach of the “ Burgh” is far indeed!
