Welcome to the amazing world of John Farnham!!!! Try to catch more of his live performances (ALWAYS live), you will not be sorry. Listen to a soundtrack accidently recorded when he was doing a sound check of Led Zepplins Black Dog where he literally outsings Robert Plant. He can sing anything. I have been to so many of his concerts as each one was so special. He is much loved here in Australia; we call him The Voice. Enjoy your journey ♥️

Lennons lyrics were originally lost on everyone due to his record exec's forcing him to speed it up into a Rock 'N' Roll song. Not many people really paid attention or noticed the dark lyrics and his pleas for help, to them it was just a nice Jazzy tune. John brought out the emotion and everyone now heard the lyrics for what they really were. A desperate cry for help. Lennon did get to hear this before he was killed, and was stunned by it and said this was how he originally planned to sing it. He saluted and recognised John for the amazing re recording as a Ballad, but was a little dark on the fact he didn't get to do it first himself. Tina Turner also took a liking to Johns re writing of the song and did her own take with her own slowed down version. Slightly different again.

I was at this concert. As a singer myself, I shamelessly let John's style influence how I interacted with the crowd. The main thing is his humility. I always thought the best way to connect with a crowd was to do your very best to do be right there with them, enjoying the music itself and not putting yourself on a pedestal. The world will be a much darker place as his voice goes quiet, but oh those memories!

John Farnham first performed his version at a Royal Variety Performance in front of Queen Elizabeth in early 1980. John Lennon upon hearing this version, was heard to say "this is how the song was meant to be sung"; supposedly before his death later that year, John Lennon apparently played this version in his home studio. John Farnham is an English born Australian artist, who commenced his singing career in the late 60's as a pop idol; he transitioned to an adult contemporary artist between the late 70's/early 80's, and relaunched his singing career. John is known as The Voice in Australia, after the release of You're The Voice from his Whispering Jack album. John Farnham is the only Australian artist to have a number one record(album or single) in five consecutive decades; starting in 1967 as an 18 yr old with Sadie(The Cleaning Lady), Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head in 1970, and Age of Reason in 1988. Albums were Whispering Jack in 1986, Age of Reason in 1988, Chain Reaction in 1990, Then Again in 1993, 33 1/3 In 2000, and The Last Time in 2002. He has released collaborative albums with Australian and International artists.

I was fortunate enough to have been at this show, and words cannot describe how awesome it was. John is a true entertainer, his interaction with the audience was always enjoyable, and the way he tortured his microphone stands is legendary. This song was performed at the end of a 2-3 hour show (although I don’t exactly recall the length as you tend to get carried away in the moment, and I was 11!). The reason he says “stay safe” at the end of the show is because a massive storm swept across Melbourne during the show and conditions outside the venue were somewhat hazardous. Now about the whole John Lennon rumour that always rears its head in the comments section of these videos. Farnham released his version of this Beatles song only a few months before Lennon was fatally shot, and there is no offical record of him making any comments about Farnham’s version. What we do know is that Elton John, a friend of Lennon sent him a copy of Farnham’s version, but we don’t even know if Lennon even listened to it as he was at the time busy working on his own album. What we do know is that during an interview years later, Paul McCartney said that John would have probably liked Farnham’s version because it is performed in a manner similar to how Lennon originally wanted to perform it. Lennon wanted to perform it as a slow song but the groups record label at the time wanted it to have a faster pace.

Liked and Subscribed. Great reaction to our John Farnham. Any performance from this particular show is worth a look. And always, always look for a 'live' performance. John is such an Aussie legend. I'll be here for sure to see more of your reviews. Love from Australia

I'm still not sure where the Lennon quote comes from. It's referenced a lot by people but I'm yet to see specific details. Regardless, this is absolutely the tempo Lennon originally wanted the song. Here is a demo recording from 1970. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eJxss5iLgZvJmpM.html You can hear it. Farnham's version is absolutely sublime. We don't call him "The Voice" for nothing 🙂

Ty for reacting to our farnesy he truly is the best singer/performer Australia has ever had.. And omg yes your the only one to notice how far he has the microphone away from his mouth.. He can sing pretty much anything from pop to opera.. I wasn't at that concert but I have attended many John farnham concerts over the years.. he never disappoints!! Great reaction!!!
