John East J Retro Bass Preamp in G&L JB Basses

The John East J-Retro is my favorite on-board bass preamp. It has killer warmth and is still growly.
I'm playing two G&L JB basses. The JB5, Alder body & Ebony fingerboard, has stock G&L pickups and GHS Super Steel strings and the JB4, Ash body Maple fingerboard, has Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder pickups and GHS Super Steel Strings.
The bass was recorded direct through am A-Designs REDDI straight into a US Apollo and into Logic Audio.

You really are a phenomenal player my friend. Of course there are a lot of fine players out there but your flow, timing, cadence structuring are one step beyond. I recently bought a G&L Fullerton JB and couldn"t be happier with it. I use to play Fender Jazz's in the Seventies and Eighties but played Peavey and Ibby's after that. These G&L's really nail it. I just bought an Enabler and your demo helped me to decide. I have a Doom 2 on my board too. Anyway, after a long layoff I'm back playing again and am going to gleaning everything I can from your fleet of finger playing. Thanks brother.

Nice. Wonder what it would sound like in an L2K. Or would that be blasphemy?

Oh man, the MFD pickups are so powerful on their own I’m not sure if any other preamp other than G&L’s would work.

Which John East Model did you put in and did it fit or did you have to mod?

Hi Dave, this is the 3-band, 3-knob, 2-switch version. I believe it is the J-Retro 01 model. Hope this helps. Also, yes, I had to do a little routing ti the Botton of the cavity, but it was minimal.
