John Deere X-485 Garden Tractor Repair Introduction

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This will be a series of videos following my repair of a John Deere X-485 Garden Tractor with a 25 HP FD711D Kawasaki engine. The first video is an overview of problems that will needed to be addressed. There will be separate videos covering the electrical system, hydraulic system, engine and body work. The mower deck repair will be a major video which I am now waiting for parts.

I just attempted to remove the mower deck from the X485. The PTO coupler would not unlock. This is the fourth time I have had this problem on other decks and it requires more than just penetrating spray. There will be a video soon on this repair. Please Subscribe to my channel if you want more repair videos. The more Likes I get, the more videos I will add. I do not have ads on my videos so there is no monetary incentive for me to spend time creating videos.

Patiently awaiting your solution for the quick coupler on the x485, every year when removing the mower deck I have to peel back the soft metal on the coupler and remove the loose ball bearings. Just can't see how buying the kit that includes the bearings and spring would solve the problem, seems like a flawed design. I've even thought about buying an easy coupler, but the 300 dollar price tag seems a little steep! Thanks for your many great and informative videos, Bob Kelly

Yes,, lmao,, I just bought a x485, it has most of the same problems as yours, Temp Gauge, not working, Fuel Gauge, not working, Hour Meter not working, I am in the process of tracing down the Temp Sending sensor wire today in hopes it is just a short and not Instrument Cluster. I will be waiting for your next video :-).

@@cliffbuchanan5180 Glad I was able to help. On two of my tractors I have just given up and added an independent Temp Digital gauge. I should probably make a video of that option. Please like my videos which will help my channel grow. This also helps me understand what is important to viewers.

@@gotdeeres Good Morning, well I got the deck off and taken apart, went to John Deere , Legacy Equipment $850.00 for parts, everything was worn out, except the Shell "-),, I may get lucky after I got home the parts dept. called said they have a 54 " deck that someone ordered and backed out, I can have it for same price as my parts, it is new, You mentioned that you installed a external heat gauge on your tractor, what gauge did you use ? did you change the sending unit also ? I have thought about doing the same thing but have no idea where to mount the gauge, where it will be out of the way. Thanks again for your help.

@@cliffbuchanan5180 Hey Cliff, I just ordered a couple of the last temp gauges I have used. It comes with the temp probe. I mounted it inside the instrument cluster!! You could also mount it in the top of the pedestal. I will definitely be making a video of this procedure.

I replaced the hourmeter, cleaned the meter terminals and resoldered the ground connections on the circuit board. I also cleaned all of the little light sockets. I replaced the temperature sensor just to be sure it was OK.

I have water coming out of my exhaust pipe on my x475 lawn tractor it has the Kawasaki engine in it should the head gaskets be blown or worse

  • @gotdeeres

It is probably a bad head gasket. Could also be a warped or cracked head.

I have an older X485.I was told I need to unlock the rear differential.Tis because when I turn sharp it continues to move forward.Do you know how I should go about doing this?

  • @gotdeeres

Usually backing up will unlock the differential. If that does not work, check the diff lock pedal to be sure it is free.

It also could be the return spring for the diff lock inside the hydro. This world be a major repair.
