John Deere WON'T START !! No Crank / No Start - D125 Lawn Tractor - Let's Fix it !!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Join me as we diagnose this John Deere D125 with only 37 hours on it, and find out why it won't crank or start. Turn the key and nothing happens. Fortunately, it turns out to be an easy fix. Thanks for watching Buck's Small Engine DIY, Putting the "Do" into "Do-It-Yourself."

    My mower won’t start, and one headlight doesn’t come on… and my fuse is blown too. This is definitely an easier fix than I was expecting 👍🏼

    Always good to know. Was hoping for a solenoid or starter fail test but always nice to know. Thanks!

    Check this out. Bought this from someone the other day. I found these exact wires melted in the exact same damn place. This fixed it for me. I did notice the wire before but thought nothing of it.. thinking to myself "Oh just the headlight connector" Crazy how this would give you a no crank no start! Excellent video and thank you very much.

    I have worked on machines , cars mostly , and had blown fuses that I never could find a reason for. Replaced the fused and the new one wouldn't blow. Ask the owner if they would let me know if the issue came up again and never did. Sometimes a blown fuse could be the only problem I guess. Maybe a manufacturing issue of sorts? But you did well finding this mowers issue. Aside from using shrink tube to help in both insulating the new connection and supporting it as well that fix was like I'd do and should last years and years. Excellent work.

    Thank you for being a good example for us to emulate. "Go for the simplest explanation first." I was thinkingn I needed to replace the starter, but now I'm going to check the rest of the machine, especially the peripheral electrical system with my voltage meter. I noticed something that seems to be coming from the starter that has a box on the end that connects to "NOTHING?" and has two slots at a 90 degree angle, forming a "T"... do you or does anyone else here know what that is for and what it is supposed to connect to?

    A Voltage test and getting 12V does not ALWAYS mean the battery is good. AMPS are what does the work and you need another Battery or Battery Tester to be sure.

    I wish I could be on site to help you out. Hard to do so remotely. When you turn the key what happens? Does the starter motor engage to spin the engine, that is, crank? Or not? If not, do you hear a "click" sound at all from the starter solenoid when you turn the key?

    Hey i have a d 170 you have to take air filter and hold your hand over air intake and it cranks then remove hand when it fires from it to run. Any idea.

  • @Buckwsr

    @Buckwsr

    Sounds like the choke mechanism is not working correctly, or choke plate does not close fully. With your hand over the intake you're essentially choking the engine manually. Verify that when you move the throttle lever to the choke position that the choke plate on the carburetor closes fully. If not, adjust it so that it does. Good luck.

    I've got an old Murray where the headlight wires came off as the front headlight was missing so there was only the ground wire and the power wire from the ignition and they were floating around in the engine bay. We did cap them off so they're not grounding out to anything, but there's still not even a click. Any thoughts? Just put in a new solenoid, 4 post

    Does the electrical system have a fuse? If so, check it. Next I would test for 12 volts on the small terminal of the solenoid when the key is turned all the way to the "start" position. This would be the wire coming from the key switch to the solenoid. If there is no voltage there when the key is turned to the "start" position, then you'll have to work backwards to find out where the problem is. It could be safety switches, or the key switch itself. I assume you've checked the battery for voltage, have it hooked up correctly, and with good connection at positive and negative terminals. Good luck.

    @@Buckwsr did replace the fuse with another 15 amp fuse. It's weird because the mower was working a few weeks ago my son turned off and now there's no click. We have a good battery. It seems like the terminals are loose on the fuse connector so maybe I should replace that but not sure how to test that. Thanks for responding, I subscribed! Much appreciated. My son's tired of watching mower and solenoid videos but I figure a few dollars in parts and time is cheaper than a $3,000 riding mower.

    @@DefensorFortis ok. Do the test that i mentioned previously. See if you can get a wiring diagram for your mower. That would help, I think.

    Hi Buck, I hit rock or something with my JD D130 and the mower and stopped and I’m getting zero when I turn key. Batteries fine, fuse is fine, gas is in there. No leaks. Any ideas?

    Did you watch the video? The blown fuse was caused by wires shorting out after melting on the hot muffler. There was no jump starting....

    Just recharged my John Deere mower. Now cranks, but won't start. After watching your video wonder if it is a blown fuse . If not, could it be a bad spark plug? Trying to fix the problem myself without calling for neighbor's help. Thanks

  • @Buckwsr

    @Buckwsr

    If the starter mower is turning the engine (that is, cranking), then I'm sure it's not a blown fuse. A spark plug can go bad, but that is seldom the reason for a no-start situation. Give me some more details on what model John Deere you have, and what engine is in it. That might enable me to give you some more things to check.
