Spent many hours on Dad's '54 Model 60. She was our primary tractor until '67.
That starter just wasn't having it lol. I've noticed these two-cylinders don't like to cold start at anything above idle. The story goes that my grandfather's 60 was always a hard starter and would only fire if the throttle was pulled all the way back.
I like those old tractor sounds the old Putt-Putt
Nothing starts like a Deere👍🏻

Thanks for the help getting her rollin!!🤘🏻
You can tell she was not happy! But nothing runs like a Deere! Nothing wants to start at -35!
Good to hear from you guys! Hope you all are staying warm and safe.

Thank you for watching! Hope you are doing well and staying warm as well!
Yesssss!
My family's '44 A doesn't like coldstarting at all, it got better when we changed it to a 12V system. 12V starter gives no shits about a grumpy engine, just cranks until it turns. Once she's going, she's gone. No stop until the fuel is cut.
Give it some throttle. When cold they like throttle. I grew up on these and dont know where these no throttle comments are coming from.

Oh we where giving it throttle, the throttle friction discs are about shot on this 60 so that made her start a bit harder to control. But I always just try and watch and smell the exhaust and adjust on the fly
I cannot believe that thing started at -35! She was not happy! but she eventually did start!
Yay your back and that's one bad John Deere

I started my 630 yesterday at 0 she has 20w-50 synthetic in her on a fresh 90 over rebuild it popped right off first crank at full choke.

That’s pretty damn good! Did you overhaul it yourself?

@@LocustMotorWorks Yeah this fall I took the block and had it bored as well as a fresh valve job on the head. I had been running it for a while on standard pistons but it was seized when I first got it so I honed the rust out . My machinist told me he went to bore it .45 and it didn’t cut till it got to the bottom. You can definitely feel the difference in power now!

Nice! Then old two cylinders are fun to overhaul, sounds like your 630 would be a fun one to take tractor pulling!
Impressive. Hope your engine oil is rated for that temp :)
Turn the lights off b4 trying to start.
You may not know but under the block there are petcocks that makes very cold starting easier.

No petcocks on this 60, got them on my unstyled A tho

@@LocustMotorWorks unless they were removed and plugged, they should be on the bottom side of the block, not in the same location as an A or B. I have a 53 and 54 model 60 and they both have them.
Why it been so long
