Well said! It's a shame that Hip-hop and mediocre Country are prominent now when people should be looking into true talents like Coltrane, Chet Baker, and Miles Davis.
You look like Chet Baker

I bought this, in part, based on your review. I’m blown away at how it sounds like a finished product. This sounds like Coltrane is jamming right here in my living room. A must own for any Coltrane fan.
wow this album sounds great. Never heard of this album even coming out. Very cool stuff. Thats really nice that they sponsored the video and sent you a copy for free and that the sound quality is good. You have to worry about that sometimes with modern jazz albums.

No, not seen it yet but will watch it asap.
Have you heard the John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman album? It's one of my all-time favourites. Johnny Hartman is a criminally underrated vocalist.
You should definitely review Kind of Blue by Miles Davis if you’re in the jazz mood!

@@GeoCoppens I disagree, not only is KOB incredible from a musical stand point, it’s also the most influential and important jazz album of all time. With out KOB, cool and model jazz would never happened and jazz’s life span would be cut far to short.

Great video ! Just remember that the 1/4 inch tape was the format of choice for The Beatles and most bands of the 60's. (Not a bad format at all).

dang I always forget that. You're right. I think how fast you record to the tape plays a huge factor into how good it can sound

Any album once its mastered is put on 1/4" tape - so basically ANY record you have is from a 1/4" tape... but I get what you mean. Very exciting that this was found and you told the story/history of it wonderfully, Eric.

Yeah, I admit I'm not super knowledgeable when it comes to recording to tape. I just know it's always better to have the original source tapes, rather than a mixed down copy
I have no jazz record's, need to change that! Have almost every genre , except jazz and hip hop! Hip Hop is not going to happen with me, but I'm open to jazz!

vinyl City 2 if you actually get into jazz, you will most likely be able to get into hip hop pretty easily lol. I recommend going through Miles Davis's discography, pretty much gives you every subgenre of Jazz from the 40s to the 70s

There are some great links for this. Very enlightening on what John was researching. From 1987: I hope you don't mind. www.nytimes.com/1987/04/23/arts/critic-s-notebook-magic-music-and-math.html
You would be a great cohost to Henry Rollins radio show.
You should check out the lovin spoonfuls 1969 album. Not really relevant to this video, but a really good album in my opinion, excluding war games

Revelation: Revolution '69? I don't own it, gotta check it out
The other person in my house doesn't like Coltrane at all. She feels he is way too unstructured. Granted at first listen his playing style is way out there. Mostly non melodic but if you listen a while oh man is it good. After A Love Supreme he went off on a bizarre freeform tangent I still can't wrap my head aroun. I'm so glad to hear this album is so good. I think I'll go listen to the digital a few times just to get the feel.
I don't think I shared my Coltrane review: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qa2Amsadgpi_mbA.html

Video implies the recording will be played backwards. Don't be fooled! It's actually a review. Very disappointed.
It's a shame that it's not in stereo...
