This is my go to chill out album. Must have listened to it a 1000 times in every format. Absolutely no fat, no fillers, every song is perfect. The stars aligned when they recorded this.

I am a fan of vocal jazz music from the 50s and 60s, so this is a perfect jazz album to me. You get the best of vocal and instrumental. And each song is kind of divided in two, so you also don't have the saxophone and voice fighting with each other. Such a chill listen. I put this on for friends who say they don't like jazz.

Have wanted this album from the first time I heard Johnny Hartman's voice...which was the Bridges Of Madison County soundtrack, many years ago. Came across an early Impulse pressing on eBay about 6 months ago..and is now one of the most treasured Jazz recordings in my collection. It shipped from New York City,, and I was surprised to find an original clipping from the NY Times review of the album tucked inside. Whomever owned this before me, loved this as much as I....asterisked favorite songs on the jacket.. It conjures images of listening on a fire escape of some apartment on a hot NYC evening in 1963..Coltrane's sax wafting through the air..Hartman's soothing voice making the unbearable heat nearly tolerable. I want to hear this new pressing..but no way will I part with this treasure.

I just played my copy of this album (AP ‘22 as reviewed here) and realized that on “You are too beautiful”, Coltrane’s sax is on the right channel and the piano on the left channel. On all other tracks in this album, Coltrane’s sax is always on the left channel. I also checked my CD copy, my ‘80 reissue (MCA Impulse) and Tidal versions, all have Coltrane’s sax on the left channel on this track. Can anyone check their copy and share what you heard? Aside from this anomaly, this is the greatest version of this album in any format I own.

Someday you should introduce your dog! I don’t know what his opinions are about your reviews or your taste in music but he certainly likes being around you. In fact, I miss him when he’s not jumping up on the couch behind you. I liked the story you told about Hartman and Coltrane. Certainly not every album has a story but when one does exist, it certainly enlivens the review.

4:11 " I was so sure that I had them all, but that's not true. I'm missing this one, which of course is totally inappropriate and unacceptable." 😆🤣 McCoy Tyner gets lost in the credits, but he really sets the stage on this album. Great recording.

The Hartman & Coltrane 45 was not on AP, it was ORG. So you may very well have all the AP45 Impulses. Ive compared them and find them very close, the AS33 is a little more bassy while the ORG45 is a little more neutral and separated.

You know how they say 5 albums to take when you are deserted on an island (with a turntable)? This is one of my 5. Maybe I’d take 2 of this in case one wears out. Would need a backup

I heard the delay was due to a jacket problem, wrong info on it or something like that. I don’t remember where I heard it but it had to be on a VC channel.

Very cool. I'll be in Frankfurt and Munich next week. Are there any audiophile stores in either city that you recommend? I wanted to see some of the Einstein kit in person. I'm from California and usually get my stuff from Upscale Audio but always looking for new stuff worldwide.

Greetings from Baltimore Michael ! I was wondering if you have listened to any albums of the German label MPS, I recently listened to Bill Evans “Symbiosis” , it has a beautiful sound. This German label has a great catalog, also Joe Henderson’s “Mirror mirror” . Would be great to hear your insight about it.

Michael; another great video. However I don’t think this has ever been done at 45 RPM. It certainly wasn’t part of the original Impulse series 45 RPM set (a glaring omission). Regardless, no need to seek it out, I’m pretty sure it’s not at 45 RPM, at least not yet.

Analytical - I've heard that word used to describe the sound for a couple other records from this Impulse/Verve AS reissue series. It seems to be an occasional mastering preference of Ryan K. Smith, I'd much rather have a warm vinyl-like sound rather than something which is dry and digital-like. Not sure if I want to get this one or not. I'm a Coltrane fan, the only track I knew from this album before this release was 'My one and only love' decided to give the full album a couple listens and I just don't like Johnny Hartman's voice, it's not unbearable but really not my style and occasionally makes me cringe and mastering may not be my preference. I'm torn because I'd like to collect as much Coltrane as I can and I love that one song but not sure if I'd listen to the record much.
