John Cleese and the West End cast of Fawlty Towers - The Play | Interviews and show footage

We recently paid a visit to the Apollo Theatre to meet the cast of the West End premiere of Fawlty Towers - The Play, alongside the TV show’s original co-creator and star, John Cleese, who has adapted the beloved sitcom for the stage.
We were also treated to a sneak preview of two scenes from the production.
Find out what Cleese, Adam Jackson-Smith (who plays Basil), Anna-Jane Casey (Sybil), Hemi Yeroham (Manuel), Victoria Fox (Polly) and Paul Nicholas (The Major) had to say about the stage show in the video.
The West End cast is completed by Rachel Izen (as Mrs Richards), Steven Meo (as Mr Hutchinson/German guest), Kate Russell-Smith (as Miss Tibbs), Nicola Sanderson (as Miss Gatsby), Greg Haiste (as Mr Thurston/German guest), Danny Bayne (as Mr Walt/Dr Finn), Neil Stuart (as Taxi Driver/Mr Firkins/Mr Kerr/Mr Sharp), and Emma Fenney (as German guest), alongside Mia Austen, John Hasler, Dale Superville, Ben Jacobson and Suzy Bloom.
Led by director Caroline Jay Ranger (Only Fool and Horses: The Musical), the creative team includes set and costume designer Liz Ascroft, lighting designer Ian Scott, sound designer Rory Madden, casting director Anne Vosser, assistant director Denise Ranger and resident director Chris Kiely.
Fawlty Towers is now in previews at the Apollo Theatre, ahead of a press night on 15 May 2024.

Looks an incredible cast , I adore Paul Nicholas- he seems like such a sweetheart
Saw this last night and laughed my socks off! Recalled so many corkers from the tv show. This show is a must see for any Fawlty Towers fan and not only has it been written so well by John Cleese but the cast were fantastic and did a huge homage to the original players on the TV show. Brilliantly acted and the time just flew by! Go and see it yourselves and blow your socks away too! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have booked a ticket but I really hope this is not a word for word mimick of the original TV episodes and has some freshness and individuality. They have a fantasic opportunity to create new storylines here, why just copy the original script for script? In that case we might as well just watch the original episodes.
As much as I adore Fawlty Towers, I think I will pass, its like trying to recreate an episode of Only Fools and Horses with other actors, it just doesn't work.

lok up "Fawlty Towers 2010 theatre" here on youtube, uploaded by Heidi Laubscher. The actor playing Basil is 100% the real deal ! I don't know about getting tickets to see a live recreation of an episode or two but that guy pulls it off amazingly

I agree some things should just be left alone … they are un-recreate-able. It was a moment in time that was pure gold.

I saw it last night ! if you shut your eyes, the audio was perfect if you opened your eyes, it was a very close effort, at looking like the original cast . I grew up in the 70s and loved. It still do today. The 70s have been and gone so don’t be so negative any of you who say leave it alone you’re probably saying that because you haven’t actually seen it and don’t know what an earth you’re talking about. So if you choose to comment on something on KZread back it up By having actually seen it. If you’re thinking about it, just book tickets and look out for the amazing ending !
