That match in Houston was to decide who would go on to face rock in what was going to inevitably be John v rock 2. This match to this day is my favorite free television match of the modern era, it’s definitely better than Shawn vs cena on the night after mania too…

Jerry the king Lawler gave Andy Kaufman two Pile drivers in a row, and they’re way more intense than that one. Pile driver used to be a move you saw every week. It’s sad allot of wrestlers got broken necks and CTE so I get it but it’s unwatchable now with no more moves that could even 1% potentially land someone on their head or neck.

I don’t think anyone knew how to really work it. You can say a lot of what punk was saying was a work, but a lot of it was a shoot to. I think it signified a change in the industry that we’re seeing today with more promotions popping up and more independent wrestling becoming bigger than it ever was. Almost like a deconstruction of what Vince created for himself in the 80s when he went out and basically bought out every local seen all over America. It’s a long and complex story that I feel transcended their rivalry into what we’re seeing as modern day wresting today. It’s a weird way of looking at it, but I feel like it’s the only way to look at it. You’ve got Indy talent saying fuck you and all you stand for in cena and then you have Roman reigns saying, I’ll hold this for as long as I want. What we saw 10 years ago isn’t far from what we’re seeing today, but on a much much bigger and grand stage that simply two men could have ever worked or tried to downplay with a wrestlemania moment. They changed wrestling forever.

Seems like something they may attempt in the future, but it probably won't be until Cena's work calendar for acting gigs gets cleared up. So best case scenario might be sometime after they wrap up the next part of Peacemaker.

The best thing about this rivalry is that it basically writes itself. They were the exact opposite of one another it was only a matter of time before they butted heads.

I think Cena respected Punk for his bluntness and brutal honesty.

That Feb 25 Raw match when Punk gave Cena a piledriver is one of my all time favorite matches.

Two of the greatest.

This was Naruto Sasuke level rivalry

Punk & Cena were perfect opponents for each other. It is a shame they never got to have a WrestleMania match.

The thing about Cena vs Punk is they had the main element to a great feud in that the two were polar opposites of one another in terms of their gimmicks, wrestling styles, physiques, their beliefs and attitudes, etc. Think of all the great feuds throughout WWE history: Rude vs Warrior, Hogan vs Andre, Austin vs. Rock, HBK vs Undertaker, just to name a few. That dichotomy is what makes great storytelling. Its like rainwater mixing with oil: it can either make a huge mess or it can make a beautiful rainbow in the gutter.

WWE ratings actually was on the rise from 2009-2011. Ratings stagnated from after the pipebomb 2011 to 2014 Ratings started rising again in late 2014 AFTER Punk left. So where is the part where pipebomb and punk helped WWE? In fact, it could be correlated that the pipebomb stalled wwe growth.

Cena vs Punk feud was my childhood. No matter how you feel about either of them you gotta admit they created some memorable moments in wrestling history that’ll never be forgotten.

John Cena vs CM Punk for the one last time at Wrestlemania will be the most hyped match of all time.

I remember watching CM Punk win the championship off of Cena at MiTB in Chicago, I was 8 years old. Core memory instantly. Words cannot describe the chills that match gave everyone who had the honor to watch it. My favorite match ever.

Well that's the thing. They aren't characters. What you see is what you get. Those guys aren't fake. Which is why they get mixed reactions.

This hit me man, I was 8 when they first started feuding and man was it great watching them leading up to money in the bank, I’ve never been more invested in wrestling than the summer of punk and his 462 day reign as champ

Their storied paths made for 2 very different styles that just made a feud so easy and relatable. They both were fantastic together, probably had the best matches together too.

Best rivalry i grew up with.

After the Chicago match, they definitely could have found a way to stretch that all the way through the year for wrestlemania 28 if only they hadn't already booked rocky/cena an entire year in advance
