JOHN BRZENK vs DEVON LARRATT - Love Armwrestling INSTANTLY after this!

Спорт

2004 - It is impossible to watch these matches and not go away understanding the appeal of the sport of armwrestling. I challenge you to try. After experiences like these it is no wonder I quit school to start ARM TV and travel the world filming armwrestling. This is a by gone era of armwrestling with Legends traveling to small town just to get their shot at one another for money that barely covers the weekend expenses. It just isn’t seen in the sport today. I love armwrestling and you will too after this. That is not clickbait either.
Super Star Showdown in Chehalis Washington hosted by Sol Ingram starring Len Houghton, Luke Reimer, John Brzenk, Devon Larratt, Marcio Barboza and Jacob Abbott!
Look for shout outs to ARM TV and Dave Devoto!
Fun fact: KZread didn’t exist when this was filmed…heck Devon Larratt said he had dial up!
Also look for the soundbite that possibly inspired the name of Pulling John!

This seems to be getting some great traction so I will pin my response to how could an absolute legend of a video like this not have been posted before... Well, it has...on ARM TV. Back story: I filmed 30-40 events a year on average from 2004-2011. When we launched our site...streaming was still new (evidence by Devon having "dial up"...remember that?) and in regards to armwrestling websites there were only pictures. KZread hadn't even started until 2005. ARM TV launched on January 20th 2004 and we were going to bring armwrestling to the main stream. It was the largest underground sport in the world and we intended to change that. We had just over 300 members in 3 months. I think we only charged 17$ for three months but by the end of 2011 we were charging 19.99 a month or 9.95 if you signed up for the year. Armwrestlers complained. I would say look at Netflix…and here we are…years later. I was correct. They are a power house and we could have been as well. This was my full time job and it was awesome. We eventually brought a web designer, Kenneth Leach, who was doing ground breaking stuff with cataloging the events and tagging matches. You can tag time codes but no one is tagging video to names and stats. Our true crowning achievement was being able to host the biggest prize money event in the country for three straight years called the ROTN (Ruler of the Nation: 2007, 2008, 2009). Shout out to our best sponsor Don Fritsche for fronting 20K every year. I truly thought this was the sign that we made it but the following happened...ALL AT ONCE... CELL PHONES-KZread-AND RECESSION... KZread...yes this Tube was allowing everyone to post videos. I hadn’t thought of that. Well, it turned out that it was too much for us and we finally had to shutter the dream. No matter how hard we worked...how many events we covered... ARM TV could never get over 540 members at one time. Lifetime we had 2400 but could never get them at once. Had we been able to retain members we would be the largest sponsor in armwrestling for years to come...but that was a different future. The site stayed up but I could no longer travel for armwrestling as had to “get a job”. Luckily through my connections with armwrestling, Sevan Matossian of Pulling John fame helped me get a job for CrossFit which happened to also include a lot of travel. How lucky can a guy get? It went well and for the better part of this past decade I was away from the sport of armwrestling and I missed it. Recently some life changes have occurred and the opportunity opened up for me to delve deep into our archive and finally befriend the enemy that put us under. So now I am sharing these wonderful historical documents with you! Armwrestling…(I’m now speaking to you as if you were a person) I now both love and hate you at the same time. I love you because every time I watch matches like this I get the same feeling as the day I first found you. But I hate you because you tore my heart out and proved sometimes dreams don't come true. Thanks for watching! :P Gary Roberts ARM TV

oh... I just realized when I started putting videos on the internet..."streaming" was not even a word used. When I would tell people you can "stream" online people did not know what I was talking about. I am not saying I invented the word but pretty damn near close. The handful of people trying to develop how to put videos online...using the early tools available were the only ones who knew that word. And now here we are...the rest is history. I should have invented this freaking website...KZread. At the time I was trying to figure out how to stream videos "I" had created to the website. This was the major fuck up. Armwrestling could have billions in funding hahahahahaha!!! Funny enough, during the later years I was actually working with a few arm wrestlers who would actually have access to ARM TV and consistently load videos...talking to you Mike West. Thank you sir. You never made a dime but you did it for the love of armwrestling. AND during the time of KZread taking off I was actually shunning it because of what it had done to the beautiful business I had created....so I completely missed the KZread creator generation. IS IT TOO LATE? ;P

@@armtv Try to work with WAL for events coverage. It is not too late to start a KZread channel, it's entertainment! Don't forget 1 thing, the first 10 years of KZread were a bit of a clusterfuck, it's not even guaranteed you could have made substantial money with the channel back then. Now however things are setup and very clear if you want to be monetized for your content,KZread+Instagram+Twitch is where it's at in 2020. Live streaming on Twitch is VERY popular. As a 25 years old who has bathed his whole life in those things I'd tell you this, if you want to get a presence online and make a living out of it: KZread+Instagram+twitch The genius in this, is you reuse the same content but for all 3 different platforms, allowing you to fetch a maximum of potential viewership and followers. The usual pattern is as following: advertise and support your live events(including live streaming) with Instagram, stream the events using Twitch, and reupload all the live streaming content from Twitch, once edited to KZread. This is how it's done :) You can milk this shit like nothing else if you're being a bit clever with it!

There was a tournament held in florida I believe in 2005 that I got to see footage of one time where Todd hutchings beat both Cleve Dean and David Randell in an open class division. It was so shocking I put it in a special folder in my mind to never forget it. If you could upload that footage I believe it would inspire a new wave of people to get involved in the sport. As Devin's career progressed, he became a defensive puller. . He developed great stamina, so he'd wait and wait until he'd feel his opponent's arm juiced, and then sink the pin. Here, he was more offensive, and kept laying it on. But as he's doing this at 22.44, Brzenk times it perfectly. As Devin regroups, Brezenk feels it and surges which gives him the win. Great technical match. Thanx for posting !

At some point he realized he could not open Devon's hand. At this point he understood that devon had endurance, and he did not fade as John expected. For everyone that thinks that John was playing, you can clearly see that Devon's cup was just too strong for John to pronate through, same for devon, they were both trying their hardest to put the shoulder behind, you can see that in the end that John was just waiting for Devon to breathe and release some pressure, as soon as Devon screamed and stop holding his breath, John finished him with sidepressure

he was playing in the sense that he could easily have top rolled Devon again but chose to go inside anyway...he didn't hv a good measure of Devon at that point..and it ended up being a tough round but it only happened cuz John allowed it to happen.. Devon himself said the same thing when asked about this match..John beat Farid inside in 2006 when he was said to have the best hook in the world...he won the first round easily just like he did here ..decided to test Farid and lost the second round.. went for the hook in thr third round anyway and beat him...

Folks, there is no telling how much this loss fueled Devon to become the master he is today. Look at the look on John’s face at the end of the final match (deep respect) vs the casual dismissal after the first match (oh here’s another challenger I annihilated). Devon glimpsed Mt Olympus that day and decided that he wanted to permanently sit on the throne.

John Brzenk is an absolute living legend. Sure he's lost matches, but the man has cemented his status dominating the sport for over 20+ years beating guys who are much bigger and stronger than he was. No arm wrestler could match his legacy. John is simply the GOAT. Even now at his age John is still a beast. 💪
