Bach couldn't have asked for a more consummate artist than Michala Petri. Truly a recorder legend.

I had the extreme pleasure of seeing her in concert in Los Angeles. One of the pieces she played was Handel’s Sonata in F Major. This was the first serious piece I had I earned when studying recorder and it was great to hear it performed so perfectly. Hearing her okay it improved my own playing, and in my senior year of college played recorder and krumhorn in the Early Music Ensemble. Michaela, thank you for a great concert, and more importantly your inspiration. ❤️

Transcendent genius - Petri is one of the greatest! Consummate musicianship, control, lucidity, clarity of tone, precision of expression and with a delicate, sensitive, accurate touch.

@@hanni150751 Perhaps the soprano recorder fits the piece (and the original instrument, the flute) better. Nevertheless they are usually played with a treble.

@@rgh1995 Yes, presumably the version transcribed for alt recoder is played by M. Petri on soprano recorder with treble fingering. This piece can be played on a soprano rec. but with extra (knee) "touches" (griff) (bell of the recorder is closed), it doesn’t seem this video. On soprano, knee touche are quite difficult to perform, especially in a presto piece moreover, the purity of intonation may be in doubt.

Yep, and she can do it hanging upside down on a bungee rope, blindfolded, with one hand tied behind her back on a recorder made of a carrot!

She's the best recorder virtuoso. 100 000 hours practice. She can play anything.

Yes, almost. even Leopold Stowkowski nor Glenn Gould could totally obscure the fact that there is great music there. If they had conspired together, and GG sang, they might have managed it. HIP is best, not least for the baroque violin up-bow on gut strings. The other design changes and fittings make no discernable difference.

The same was said about Jascha Heifetz. They said he played like an emotionless robot. And today he is recognized as the best violinist of all time, just as Michala Petri is the best recorder player of all time.
