My wife is in ICU right now. A year ago we drove straight from Missouri to Maryland to see my father in hospice. She did not know I was in the room and I could see her touching my father's hair saying those exact words, that she was going to take care of me and watch over me. How his hair felt like mine. I then learned what the meaning of friendship meant. She's still in ICU and right now I know she's my best friend. I can relate. As a 25 year old and her being 36 I know what real and fake are. God I miss her being home.

@@thrift_jacob Yeah. Got me too. I had to go down a similar path to learn that lesson about friendship, and what's really important in life. Like Joey, and probably a million other tortured souls, I wish to God I didn't have to do so much damage to myself, but more importantly , to the people that I should have been the most careful to protect, to get to such a position of emptiness. I guess some of us can't have some empathy, while still being selfish at times. I finally just got so low I had to decide to either die, or abandon selfish behavior altogether so that empathy could be allowed to be my motivation at all times. But boy once that decision is made with your heart instead of your lying brain, your whole world view changes. The shame is still there, but you immediately start to heal and the momentum from changing makes it really hard for your lying mind to get you to do anything selfish again. I figure something similar is going on with Joey here. I suspect that people that struggle with the same issues that he talks about either end up dead, or come out the other side as a really good friend that would die for the people that stood by them.

The way he says that by that time coke had kind of absorbed him is really a testament to what a great woman this was. The fact that she clearly had a drug dependence never took precedent over either her love for Joeys mom or her love promise to take care of Joey. Despite her weakness, she must have been one strong woman before that weakness in every scenario, because clearly it never prevented her from being a true friend and faithful caretaker

@YoungOasis To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Rick’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes,

One of the saddest tales that I've heard. When comics tell stories you never know how much is embellished but his reactions he showed at the most emotional times makes me think those parts were sincere. Good story...

My heart goes out to you Mr. Diaz. You've dealt with many hardships in your life and came out a better person on the other side. Despite your bad choices in your younger days, you pull through and are now helping people like myself who've lived through similar situations. Thank you sir for sharing this intimate story. You are an angel despite what you may think

Sittin in silence for 5 minutes straight after watchin this thinking how good my real friends are to me and how i should value my family n friends more and be thankful for what i have and how i was raised. joey is an artist, cus artists just dont entertain they make you feel shit, and i've never looked at a painting or read a book or heard a song in a long long time that made me feel more than hearing his story just did! I've been speaking out of turn to my girl who really doesnt deserve it, might sound creepy but she's like a sister to me, i need to stop taking her for granted and i will, thank you uncle joey, a poet and a savage!

People take for granted how they have someone in their lives who’ll do anything for them. They grow up thinking it’s a given, that “Zee” will always be there for them. But growing up means realizing that that shouldn’t come free. We owe it to our close ones to be there for them. We don’t just get to have someone who will do anything for us; to earn that, we need to be willing to do anything for those we love. It’s too bad Zee didn’t feel that at the time, but hopefully she realized that Joey was young, he still had to learn that lesson, and that he’d become a man who sticks up for his friends when they couldn’t stick up for themselves. If you don’t have a friend like Zee, try to BE a friend like Zee.

Uncle Joey needs to write a book about his life. It sounds like anybody he would be ratting on has been long dead anyway. Some of us just have interesting stories to tell and are good at telling them. There doesn't have to be a crazy twist or turn or some kind of fight scene where you rescue a princess from a spiky fire turtle thingy. Sometimes just hearing a good story from someone who's good at telling them is enough that we don't even care about the morality or even the ending of the story lol. We just like hearing them tell it.
