I recently flew in from Austin Texas to Washington D.C. just to see this exact act perform at the HAMILTON in Washington DC . Off the charts PHENOMENAL. I had to remember to BREATHE at times and I have seen HUNDREDS of classical and Jazz Pianists and Organists in over 80 countries. Later on, during the signing of his CD TRIP MODE (fantastic by the way), I told him that I was so honored to see him perform and that I flew in just to see him. He didn't believe it. He thought I was kidding. But he was awesome. Humble. He did not think that was possible. He is traveling a lot right now - mostly outside the U.S. - It is amazing that Jazz, a form of music that was INVENTED in the U.S. is now more appreciated in Europe and elsewhere - while we listen to RAP and other banalities of Pop music. Makes no sense to me. Joey DeFrancesco performed flawlessly. Perfect. So emotional, so beautifully. His 4/16 and 4/32 speeds at times made me stop breathing until he finished - and I hold a Grad Degree in Music Composition from the Conservatory of Paris. NO ONE COMPARES. NO ONE! In my humble estimate, Joey DeFrancesco today, is the best B3 Organist in the world, hands down. This trio (which is becoming a quartet by the way - as they introduced that at the Hamilton) was spectacular. If you have the change to see it live, do it. WORTH THE TRAVEL. And buy the CD. Don't rip the CD - BUY the CD. Performers like that should be paid. These guys put their heart and soul in this. SO much work.

Hearing of Joey’s passing just broke my heart. I met him many, many years ago in Philly. He was just a young kid, maybe 12 years old. He played piano when I saw him and he was already a beast. Joey was without a doubt the most important organist in Jazz history. And in my humble opinion, he and Richard “Groove” Holmes were the most swinging musicians on that instrument. And it wasn’t simply a matter of chops. Joey always communicated a sense of joy with his music. His audience loved him. He was a humble, kind and joyful man. He remains a blessing in my life.

Yeah, I agree, Joey's left hand bassline-playing is awesome, but alas, he's a foot-faker, or at least he used to be. Ya know: dandling and wriggling his foot over the pedals to make it look as if he's actually playing them when.... he's not. The father of the whole modern tradition of Jazz-Pop organ playing is Wild Bill Davis, and that guy actually did play the pedals, as did Jackie Davis, Milt Buckner, Billy Preston, and, I believe, Jimmy McGriff. One of the more famous foot-fakers was the egregiously over-rated Jimmy Smith, but let's not dwell on that wanker; Joey DeFrancesco is many times the organist that Jimmy Smith ever was. It's all about the musicianship, and THAT is on glorious display here. Fabulous band.

Man…..I’ve worked with so many pianists who “kick” left hand bass, plus I play piano and have to do it myself on gigs, but this guy has, in my opinion, the strongest, most grooving left hand in the business. It could be a C Trumpet!..... but I don't think it is. still, I'm impressed that you (apparently a sax player) considered that potential difficulty. For a sax player, that's quite honorable. I mean really, you guys have it disgustingly easy: all saxes, from giant to tiny, have the same layout of keys (in this case, the things on the instrument you press down with your fingers), the same fingering, the same range (each in its given register); the written music is always in treble clef, and the bottom and top notes on the staff are the same in the score for all saxes. Easy as can be; the only instrument easier is guitar or maybe ukelele. Try accordion or pedal steel guitar! You'd have a nervous breakdown!

And Dan Wilson is seriously getting his Wes and GB sh_t together here, really sweet playing like Russel Malone; savage !! And I love Jason Brown, the laid back Jack de Johnette. Wonderful thanks for posting ! peace world
Man..Dan Wilson's chops!!! And Joey what can ya say? Jason great pocket drummer.
A sublime trio!
WOW! What a great performance, this guys really know how to do it!
Amazing bass lines also. Incredible.

That drummer is absolutely sensational. Wow....
such a good trio
Let it swing Joey!! You are a superb B3 player!!!🎹🎶
Great Joey De Francesco..i love it.
Es el organista de Jazz más importante que yo he escuchado, brillante músico con una técnica y swing descomunal!
Love this.
Grande Joey!
the only thing better than an organ trio, is a Joey D' organ trio, cream rises to the top, so damn good,
brilliant musicians!
yeah supernatural ... incredible.. best for all music interpretations!
Incredible!
Jason Brown is one of the greatest drummers and greatest musicians ever
MITICO ! MITICO !
I got to stand between Joey D and Tony Monaco on side-by-side Hammonds at NAMM 2005 while they played "Rhythm'a'ning!", which I can best describe as "like standing in the middle of a blowtorch fight". It just kind of happened around me.
Man…..I’ve worked with so many pianists who “kick” left hand bass, plus I play piano and have to do it myself on gigs, but this guy has, in my opinion, the strongest, most grooving left hand in the business. If there’s someone better, I’m sure that someone reading this post will let me hear about it.

No Joey's left hand and left foot were a badass bass player
A great trio.
Note come farfalle su un fiore, grazie a joey grande musicista, che regala emozioni. Ascoltatelo ve lo consiglio
I'm a guitar bigot, but second to me is that breathy organ sound. Joey is 100.
wow for all we know is so good!
just terrific
Some may not realize that the trumpet has to play in adifferent key (up a whole step) so Joey has to play and think in two keys at the same time, amazing.

@@torridscene- As a college music teacher/pro musician, multi-instrumentalist, I understand every word you say :)
Nice touch on the Hammond, J-DAWG! BTW, your crew gets it done and eats that tomorrow's breakfast too.
Maravilha! Grande Joey
Un grandioso músico de Jazz!
killer Joey Trumpet solo included and band
Prayer's for Joey-& Thankfullness
sencillamente magnifico !!! super feelling
Love it Joey
¡Excelente!
marvelous
How much can you build a tune? I was worn out half way through Joey DeFrancesco's first solo! He is so far beyond being "just" an organ player. Dan Wilson is a new guitar hero, and Jason Brown makes this feel so good.
