Joey Belladonna |

Ойын-сауық

Kenny is joined by an electrifying guest on today’s very special episode - the legendary Joey Belladonna. Perhaps best known as the iconic frontman for the masters of thrash metal, Anthrax, Joey is a six-time Grammy nominee, has played with a veritable who’s who of metal music, is equally talented in virtually any genre, and even has some acting roles to his credit. Joey talks about his remarkable journey, from his diverse heritage as part Italian American and part Native American, through his pivotal moments with the mighty Anthrax, to the various projects he continues to pursue to this very day.
Along the way, Joey reveals the unique blend of influences that have shaped his musical style, and offers insights into the evolution of metal music, how technology has revolutionized the recording process, and the changing trends in music styles and vocal techniques over the years. He also shares anecdotes from his illustrious career such as performing at iconic venues like Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden, and unforgettable encounters with renowned musicians such as Ronnie James Dio and Iron Maiden. Together, he and Kenny draw parallels between their experiences in sports and their musical endeavors, share tales of life on the road, and showcase the unwavering determination and spirit that have propelled them to such great heights. They also reflect upon the significance of staying relevant in the music industry while constantly pushing creative boundaries and maintaining a deep connection with the audience. As you listen in today, what becomes abundantly clear is that the legacy of Joey Belladonna lies not only in his profound impact upon the world of rock music, but also in the fact that, as Kenny notes, “he's kind, he's humble, he's a wonderful man.”

"I'm always looking for hooks and I'm always doing the harmonies alongside it really fast because I like to see where they're going to go, if they're going to fit at these spots."
"We all want to be on top, but I don't chase that, I can't. Just do what you do and let the fans take that wherever they want to take it."
"You have to do what you do as a band, but you have a lot of expectations that you can reach higher goals.”
"Everybody's trying to do the next thing… and you have to do that in music or any business, really, because you're trying to stay relevant."

I've known Joey since we met in late 1974. We met in high school through our love of music and have been like brothers ever since.....a lot of adventures together over those years. Take it from me gang, he is truly the genuine article......kind & considerate, the same today as he was then. His fame hasn't changed him one bit. I got laughing when he mentioned it btw......I still have the original poster we made from the early band "Gibraltar". I wasn't in a band at the time so I did sound & lights for them lol. Oswego was a big band & music town back in the day......still is somewhat I guess. Nice job Kenny.......love to Joey & Krista...great rock couple.

Drummers make the best singers cause we all have to learn how to breath. Gino Vanelli ( Another Italian) is one of the best examples . But Joey's voice is development of learning how to breath !! I think it's really a testament to how much self-awareness both these gentlemen have at this point in their careers. It had ups and downs and certainly as artist they must have experienced ups and downs in moments of doubt and struggle, as well as moments of Glory. The end result being they are both humble, and grateful for the careers they have shaped from the hard work they put in. It's an old-school ethic, but it holds true... anything truly worth having is worth what it took to earn it. Clearly these dudes interact with a lot of different people on a day-to-day basis but you can tell when they have recognized a kindred spirit and that Bond just sort of emerges instantaneously. Has Kenny mentioned it's very human. Kenny, once again, I enjoyed this very much man. Cheers

I remember Anthrax's transition from smaller venues to arenas back in 1988 w their State of Euphoria tour. It was then at the Long Beach Arena where I had the pleasure of meeting Belladonna and Spitz. Joey was friendly and talkative whereas Spitz was more reserved. Cool to see Anthrax still rocking all these yrs later.

Loved them and their unique sound since 1985 but seeing them live brought a respect that remains to this day. If you haven't seen Anthrax live do it! Kenny, I’m a ‘67 baby so you can imagine what was getting piped into my ears some 6-7 years down the line by the middle seventies. Joey talks about Engelbert and TJ, Sinatra, Jerry Vale and the like. My parents loved it! That was me too! My brother though had all the Aerosmith, Queen, Steve Miller, Zeppelin. My sister had the Streisand and Diana Ross. Mahogany is a favorite of mine. Hearing that bass part so young stayed with me forever. I found out later it was Father Time, as I like to call him, Sklar and Hal Blaine on that incredible piece of music. One song in particular I remember was Only Make Believe by Conway Twitty. Another one burned in my brain forever. I think Glenn’s version though has the edge! God I miss the old days….
