Ellie is only 18/19, she’s still a kid in some ways/a young adult. I don’t think Joel ever taught her how to torture information out of people, which is whys her attempt was so horrible, she didn’t knock them out, like owen and mel, or have power over them, unlike she did with Nora. she’s not fully “street smart”. But Joel DID tell Ellie about the method since she mentioned it and how it works but you can tell she isn’t like Joel at all bc how traumatised she is after Nora and Mel. Ellie was always under a “home” unlike Joel was when the outbreak happened. Its really cool to compare how they both are so different while using the same method

I think Ellie kept trying to hype herself up into thinking she was ready to torture Nora as well as Owen and Mel, but her moral apprehension and fear is what held her back. She even explicitly tells Nora that she doesn't have to torture her, all she needs is the information as to where Abby is and she would leave Nora to peacefully die from spore/fungal infection. She was trying to show mercy. And even after she brutalizes and tortures Nora, Ellie scrambles back to Dina as an emotional wreck because she's never done something like that before. She feels tainted and morally burdened as to what she had to do. Same thing for Mel and Owen, she just kinda plopped herself in there with a loaded gun and one of the first things she says AGAIN is that she doesn't have to hurt anybody, all she wants is to know where Abby is. Ellie is young and wreckless and driven by rage and a lust for revenge and justice, but when met with the true gravity of what she must do, she's completely disarmed and unprepared. I like that. It shows her humanity underneath her grief and anger

Well Joel has practice Ellie learned a lot from Joel, including how to hate. But Joel's got 30+ years experience on her, remember Joel and Tommy used to be hunters. However Joel would have told Ellie to move on with her life and let him rest in peace(up there with his daughter). Joel would have wished for Ellie to live a relatively peaceful life with Dina. Joel slaughtered, tortured, and killed for the survival of Ellie. After 20+ years of the apocalypse, he had grown cold and numb for everything except Ellie "you have to keep finding something to fight for." Ellie was killing out of bloodlust and rage. Also is it just me, or did Ellie's killing of Nora with that pipe make a perfect analogy of Joel's killing of that hunter, in the torture room. Joel quickly and remorselessly slaughters that sitting guy with that pipe. Ellie doesnt want to bludgeon Nora at the end, but rage takes over and she ends up doing the same to Nora. Albeit, in a very sloppy way which actually leads to a more painful death. Ellie's torture leads to an extremely painful death for Mel due to the lack of cold precision that Joel had

Diego Nin 1) ellie is literally 19 years old and never learned to properly torture someone as we can see (in fact joel mentioned the strategy that he used in the first game) 2) in this scenario ellie wasnt able to get the upper hand as she couldnt find a way to block and questioning both of them ( but she still managed to kill Owen and Mel) 3) she knows how to do “this shit” because she achieved an info by Nora by torturing and killing her 4) that’s not the fucking point as you cant compare Joel (who is older and has more experience) to Ellie (that learned from him and she is literally a far younger) 5) if ellie knocked the two liked joel did then the outcome would have been the same (unlucky ellie found mel and owen and just pointed a gun to them: she could not have done anything apart from what she actually did, maybe shooting to someone’s leg but that would have been risky) Main thing here is that this 2 scenarios are different and cant be compared

Joel establishes complete physical and psychological dominance from the get-go. He doesn't even need to finish his method because he's able to correctly read that first man's answer as the truth. Ellie has the right idea and a good start with the gunpoint initiative but the execution is horrible and clumsy at best. She seems to be shaken under emotion and pressure, not asserting full control of the situation. Not only is her attempt full of holes, just yelling demands, allowing them to be close enough to get right up in her face, but Owen has full vision of the map and where Mel points to from where he's standing. Even if they complied they could both lie and point to the same spot. Ellie's lack of experience shows and the execution is night and day.

@@menacingsweeper2692 Exactly. There are no heroes and villains in the story, so stop trying to make Joel a hero. He's one of the most flawed characters in the game. None of the fireflies did anything even as close to as bad as Joel did when he killed humanity's only chance for a cure and doomed the world to extinction. They weren't going to kill Joel, you are just making things up now to cope and justify Joel's decision. The 13 infected they experimented on before were not immune, which was why they couldn't make a cure. Ellie already said in the 2nd game given the choice she would chose to sacrifice herself. And even if she didn't, you could argue that doing the operation was the right decision anyways to save potentially billions of future lives.

You’re ignoring the Fireflies actions, only focusing on Joel. Fireflies still didn’t give Ellie a choice and didn’t even let Joel see her and say his goodbye. No, they threat Joel with a gun and Marleen didn’t comfort him or give him a reward as she promised to Tess and Joel. No, she said stuff like” whatever it is you’re going through is nothing to what l’ve been through” comparing her life to Joel. That’s a shitty thing to do. If those 13 experiments weren’t immune than why risk killing them. And don’t say it was to save humanity as an excuse to justify killing a kid. That makes the fireflies a hypocrite and way worse than Joel. You expect Joel to just walk away with a thought that their gonna open the kid skull. Tommy even said I wouldn’t have done any different. They just gonna make Joel walk out without his weapons to defend himself, hoping infected or hunters will kill him. Joel is selfish? So Fireflies are not selfish for killing a kid or not comforting or rewarding Joel. But instead make him walk out with nothing but a thought that they gonna kill the child, not even at least see her once before she goes. Joel literally travel across a country protecting Ellie. Something the Fireflies couldn’t do knowing that they been getting killed left and right trying to retrieve Ellie. And that’s the thanks Joel gets. So selfish of Joel. Plus they said a vaccine not a cure. Those are two different things. Meaning it will not help the people who are already infected. But probably will help non-infected people be immune to bites like Ellie. Knowing the Fireflies getting killed by military soldiers even hunters. They become a weaker faction but with Ellie’s immunity, they can strengthen their clan and probably used it for their own intentions. Knowing the Fireflies are ruthless to Joel because they don’t know him so what makes you think they will give a vaccine to the people they don’t know anything about them. Which is the whole world. Did you forget the world view the Fireflies as terrorist because they been bombing buildings.

I dislike Abby for killing Joel and Jesse even though those events were in the past. Same thing goes for Ellie, she searched for Abby to get revenge on her even though she could’ve easily broken the cycle. Though, if I had to pick who’s better between Abby and Ellie, I’d go for Ellie since Abby could’ve just let it go. If she did, Ellie wouldn’t have killed Mel and Owen.

@@relaxhedx7064 I mean I side with Ellie but that's not how self defense works... if she's in Jackson and bandits start attacking then killing is the only reasonable solution. Ellie was the equivalent of an intruder in your home and threatening you, the intruder killing you would be murder, for you it's be self defense

Joel would've shot Owen the second he started closing distance. Maybe gut shot something survivable. But Joel would've handled this way different. You could see Mel was ready to talk
