Yuri lowenthall (The insomniac voice actor for Spider-Man) Did background and enemy grunt voices for this game, notably David's men.
This is the day before episode 8, the one with David. I believe that the scene with the old couple in episode 6 foreshadows this interrogation scene. Because Joel told the guy to point to him on the map where to go and that it better be the same as what his wife told him. I believe this is clear foreshadowing. I’ve heard people say that they replaced the brutal scene with that but I don’t think so. I think we’re about to see Joel’s most brutal side within these next two episodes
That head tilt when he said that that Ellie was his newest pet 😅
what i love about this scene is joel got a second chance on saving his daughter cuz he could not save his T___T
I’d probably be interrogating them just like Joel, if my younger 18 year old sister got kidnapped by guys like these, In an unrealistic post apocalyptic situation
THATS WHY HES THE GOAT. THE GOAT
When comparing the show vs the game interrogations, there’s a great depiction of a form of comfort with these two Joel’s. The game focuses on a much more “calm” Joel. Which ironically contrasts with his intense violence he enacts. He’s concise, unwavering, and VERY resilient. He’s definitely the more physically capable Joel, but it’s greatly paired with his very straight and calm nature. He doesn’t yell, doesn’t scream. He only grunts, and talks very poignantly to his victims. The show Joel is on the brink of collapsing, and is literally clinging onto any form of energy. That version is desperate in a way, but equally as sadistic, if not more so. The smile he gives when he pulls his knife out communicates a comfort in the act, and perhaps even a sick pleasure in it. Yes, he’s doing it to get Ellie, but there’s no denying that he’s got some form of relief in enacting this act on the hunters. Game and Show Joel both show a very sickening steadiness in thier face as well. Not afraid or overly emotional, just very cold. While the two mediums show opposite ends of the scene in terms of subtext, the overall bullet points are spot on. Really great stuff
Too bad the TV episode featuring this scene lacked the terror shown here.

I feel like Hugh Jackman would have fully translated the scary and brutal Joel in this scene more than Pascal. Jackman juat seems to be better at playing brutal, cold hearted bad ass than Pascal. Anyway, i still appreciate Pascal's very good acting and i think i'm satisfied enough with his portrayal.
A father figure (dad) doing all he can to save his little girl. One of the best cut scenes in the game. WOW! - watching this still gives me the chills. The character Joel here is a bad ass. 💛😁
My favorite scene in both games is this one.. in the newest remaster, the way joel says "WHERE!" (after being told Ellie is Davids "newest pet") in this scene was some of the best voice acting and motion capture i ever seen in a game.. I actually think the show did it better. I do wish it was set at night but hearing the knee slightly pop in the show, how Joel stared at the guy sitting their as he interrogated the guy in the chair. I also think that because Joel in the show was a lot less brutal throughout the majority of it, it makes this scene stand out a lot more. I also think its gonna make the entire end and how brutal the second game is hit a lot harder.

I believe we are to infer, with Joel’s past as a ruthless survivor and Ellie’s testimony that this was a method of his in Part 2, that he’s done this enough times to know when someone’s telling the truth and verifying it a second time is unnecessary. Tommy appears to have successfully used this method off-screen and Ellie tries to unsuccessfully.

experience. Joel was a hunter for at least 15 years while forcing his way through survival while he kept tommy alive. Joel probably learned how to do this effectively early on and used it a lot to gain information about supplies or access points into zones.
This is the moment when he becomes "negan"
The thing about Joel is that he’s a horrible person. He’s the same ground as that of an average person you shoot in the game because he lived like that as a hunter and a survivor. The only way he starts getting more humane is with Ellie as she brings him back to his past life with Sarah. You take away Ellie and all that humanity that Joel has is gone leaving the modern grim reaper within.

Joel's an anti-hero while Ellie is an anti-villain. Joel is perhaps brutal and ruthless in mannerisms but his survival is what matters most and none of the things he did was evil. They were justified and more importantly in self-defense at each scenario. Ellie has done way much more damage and is kind of similar to Abby. Like how they use their temper for bad. Even Tommy can be described as an anti-villain the way he's so much seeking for revenge and killing people in the process. Although I can't particularly blame him after how Abby tortured his brother. The way TLOU2 mistreated Joel as an expandable character was a spit in the face for the player. Like he was the greatest and it wouldn't have happened if Bruce Straley was still in charge. Neil Druckmann loathed Joel. Joel was the most human character in this grim world he went by his morals and standards despite the circumstances around him being bleak.
