Joe's one of those guys who, like David Gilmour, demonstrates that there's so much more to playing guitar than "how many notes can you play in succession per second." People who are caught up in that school-kid mentality miss the dynamics, range of expression and appropriateness to the song that players like Joe and David nail every time, and that is essential to real appreciation of guitar. Every now and then they'll shred where appropriate, so you know they can do it if needed, but they only do so when it adds to the song. They don't play to show off. They play for maximum musical enjoyment.

Saw him in concert several times in the early 70s before he joined The Eagles. Have every James Gang album, as well as all of his solo work. I remember bringing my James Gang Rides Again album home from Capers Corners Records in Kansas City right after it was released. When I played this song for the first time, I was blown away. I grew up listening to all the greats: Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Townsend, etc. My first thought? What other guitarist would ever have the vision or the guts to integrate Ravel's Bolero and Cast Your Fate to the Wind into his own rock medley? Boys and girls, this is guitarist artistry at its finest.

What a joy to see this. Thanks for posting, never saw him play this epic song live before. There are only a handful of songs in rock history that rank up there, like this one does. Layla, Stairway, Voodoo Child (slight return), Maggot Brain, Comfortably Numb, Free Bird. Songs that take it to another level altogether.

Joe was one of the people who was good friends with Keith Moon and lived to tell about it. Amazing what this guy has seen. He did a tour with Sly And the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix and the James Gang. Joe said Clapton, all the top guitarists, at the time noticed Jimi played the guitar upside down! They all thought this is it, nobody could "crack the code" Joe says. Jimi sounded that way and you can't go there. Lookup the Joe Walsh Howard Stern interview he says it.

Not sure what impresses me the most,... Joe remembers the lyrics,... the guitar face or the slide guitar in standard tuning!! Joe is one of heroes for many reasons,... least of which was the eagles,... his solo work - and Yes,.. I consider the James Gang as "Joes Gang",.... is the best! Just love this guy and this song! My band plays Funk 49 and Rocky Mountain way,... gotta keep it alive!

Fox and Peters were an integral part of why the James Gang was so good. This song -- one of my favorites of all time -- is not the same without them, to me at least.

@@madddog6790 Absolutely right. We’ve got TWO excellent drummers on this tour and yet they still don’t have the energy, and variety of dynamics that’s almost casual when Fox & the re-formed JG performed in Columbus in ‘22. I’d love the see them reunite for one more tour before we all shuffle off to…wherever…

Also, I lived in Littleton Colorado eons ago...It's Beautiful! I know this LIVE Joe Walsh Concert was awesome & other worldly! (Wish I could have been there!)
Measure of the greats is how bad ass they sound doin’ a D to A into a cranked amp. Joe, Angus, Ronnie, Pete…where that rock n roll just comes from your guts.
Never heard of Joe playing this live. Just fantastic. He even kept the excerpt from Ravel’s Bolero in it. “Rides Again” was the first r&r album I had, after the Beatles. Still pretty much the best. Thanks, Joe!
bought that 2nd James Gang album when it came out..Joe has improved it

Hi I just wanted to thank you again for being so supportive and following me on my journey. I love inspiring and encouraging others. People like you help me to keep showing up! Hope you are having an amazing day...

Brother you said it, you named all my favorites, peace ✌ out my friend, from Sacramento, CA
This is sweet, the atmosphere is excellent and my preference! One tune of so many great hits.
Love this song. Joe Walsh is AWESOME ! Great video, Thx for posting.
Amazing!
Jim Fox is a hard act to follow. These two cannot fill his shoes. Joe Walsh is a Living Legend.❤❤❤
OH MY GOD!!!
This is excellent, thank you!
Awesome. Even two drummers can't match Jim Fox.

No lie, my very thought. The drummers are leaden and dead compared to Fox, thus the entire performance is leaden and dead.

Jim Fox on the first album entirely blew my mind. But then, all three of them did. I'd never heard a bass guitar sound so powerful before.

Thanks for posting this video chrisrco - man I wish I coulda seen that gig!
The Best of the James Gang was one of my first albums. I wanted to learn electric guitar because of Joe Walsh and Leslie West. But listening and watching this, man!, Joe Walsh could SING! Also so precise with his guitar playing rhythm and lead and slide, and while singing on pitch. Total polished professional, and rock PIONEER. Power to the Power Trio!!!!
Epic musician.. Epic performance!! JW is and Always will be timeless, simply because he plays the song!! Impeccable..if you will.
This is the best "The Bomber" I think I have seen him perform. Great.

Subpar without Jim Fox on drums.
Joe's cover of 'Bolero' at 3:45 till 5:03 has always been my favorite of his since the James Gang days.

thanks for exact time of the bolero so I can cut it out of the song Bomber as my version never had it in it and it ruined the bomber song with Bolero in it.
Cast Your Fate to the Wind. So beautiful ...
Awesome love to hear the greats ..🗿🎸
This is the most badass song ever recorded!
I saw Joe in Denver in 1983. He warmed up, incredibly enough, for Stevie nicks
I finally saw Joe solo for the first time on this tour, hella fun show.

This is the guitar sound and melodic style I have compared all others to ever since I bought the Rides Again album when it came out. Nobody really does anything like this. My all time favorite guitar player. Joe, you need to call Jimmy Fox to get this drum part right.....

Ravel would be in awe hearing this. It’s like Joe read the music right off the page. Bolero has never been performed better. Walsh is phenomenal. I’m so glad I saw him at The Us Festival in ‘83
When you find me late this morning weeping like a newborn kitten because Joe gang is dropping bombs on me from a composer of the 13th century who wrote this after finding his son dead on the battlefield. Joe brings life from death.
Classic!!!
When he goes into 'Cast Your Fate to the Wind' I get chills.

just think about it, from Joe to Ravel then Vince Guraldi then back to Joe. Like around the planets but in less than 10 minutes!
Really good vocals on this compared to other “Bombers” I’ve seen on KZread. And yes, Jim Fox is sorely missed. Long live Joe Walsh....
Wow, thank you to whoever uploaded this! XLNT rendition of an XLNT song‼️

Damn Joe we need some more music! I'm an old surfer that grew up on your tunes and I'm a junkie now! Chasing the dragon!
Anybody know what those amps are? I've never seen him use them before and they sound incredible to me! Not to mention the Flying V.
What a song. What a man.
Joe Walsh (sober, according to him) just crushed his ultimate jam forty years after the fact. Holy Christ, one of the world's greatest guitarists, but a very old one, according to me. But what the hell do I know.
Can we talk about the guy playing the drums with his hands? Dude is getting down.
Hudson Gardens is cool.
Ahhh! Just gotta love Joe! Lol. ;8)

I had an album of James gang rides again bought in 72 or 73 in California, the song Bomber my version did not have the BOLERO CLIP IN THE SONG and I cannot listen to bomber song that I purchased recently with the CD reissure of James gang Rides Again in 2018. rides again with the beolerro 2 min clip ln it. What happened to the version without bolero in the song, twice purchased in Southern Cal LA area in early 70"s.
2 drummers & they sound like their in slow motion.
