So true.. hurting people like that, stays with you forever.. I was once a talented, 17 year old Muay Thai fighter. I was in town, getting beers with a friend. And 3 people came at him suddently. I tried to stop it. But one of them attacked me with a kick. I pushed him back, he tried to grab my shirt. But I knocked his hand to the side with my left arm, and punched him full power, on the jaw attachment. He went completely cold, his legs gave up and he fell like a sack of potatoes. His friends backed off, I was in totally adrenaline kick. So I went after them, and the group they came from. They all backed off. I saw the guy fumbling around, couldn't stand on his feet. I went back to help him. Asked if he was okay. But he saw me and went right into attack mode again. This time, i grabbed his shirt and pulled, while I hit him with full speed, right on the ear. This time, he laid totally still. The police came, questioned me and my friend. And they let us go, writing it down as self defense. But I saw this guy, several weeks after that day. He walked around with a stick for blind people. And he had become deaf.. I destroyed that mans life forever. I know it was self defense. I know it could have ended worse for myself if I didnt. But.. since then, I have had a tremendous respect towards violence. And I always seek to resolve my problems without it. It is a last resort. That experience, that picture of me doing that. And the memory of him walking through the town, blind and deaf.. that stayed with me forever... Before that. I was often in a fight. After that. I have been in very few.. and I have rarely had the needs to hit anyone... Hitting someone else, can seriously change yours and theirs life forever...

@@Ybby999yeah....but it's more than that. Lots of people blows some away, walk off, do it again. And feel little. Not everyone just wakes up when they cause suffering.....some go DEEPER into their slumber....I WANT to be colder. But I cannot switch off this empathy that just.... manifested out of nowhere in my late 20's. Lived alot I guess, but still. Seems out of nowhere.....
So true.. hurting people like that, stays with you forever..

I called the school, bluffing, i let them know if they didnt deal with this id given permission for my son to retaliate, let them know how long he'd been in marital arts and that he wasnt allowed to stop until a teacher pulled him off. Principal said he didnt want any issues, his bully admitted to messing with my son, got detention and 0 issues for my son after. Joe you're a creature of conscience...like me.
Mutual respect is usually agreed upon by fighters, a desire to win but not a desire to truly harm one another, and that is surely seen here.
I broke my best friend's wrist, acting like we were wrestlers. Not knowing at the time, he had very brittle bones. I've never seen anyone cry like that. It scared me so much, and I've never felt so shitty. His mom yelled at me, and I was never allowed over there again. Years later, I found out that he had brittle bones, and it wasn't my fault. I still can't touch anyone without remembering what. happened

The difference is he is fighting in a national tournament not sparring. Your main goal is to win, you have to go all out. Every fighters/ martial artists know the risk, you cant expect other opponents not to go all out in the tournament. Just like Joe did he just went all out. Joe saw the chance and he hit it to win not to kill, you cant really know the toughness of the opponent hence why he kicked as hard as he can when he saw the chance. But sometime as his instructor said, sometimes they die, thats the truth. Real talk.

That shit will change a person. When you're young and competing you never think that something like this will happen but when you flatten another person like that and their parents are there watching and you see the dread on their faces especially the mother it changes you. I understand what Joe felt. You never want to hurt someone like that in front of their family. It's not a good feeling trust me.
