@@OldSchoolBoxing1 ya well I think that usyk is the best pure boxer in the heavyweight division. But, fury also is right there, so I don't think anybody can say that heavyweights are not technically sound right now proves otherwise. Deontay obvious has a really "unorthodox" and sloppy style. But I think his iq is underrated and I think that, even though he isn't the best pure boxer, deontay being so different works to hid advantage. He believes in his power to a fault, but he has the ability and he believes in himself enough to throw these punches from weird angles and he is willing to take one to give one and he has a great chin. Obviously fury knocked him out, but it's not like he made it easy for him. Wilder got up and knocked tyson down. They both are warriors. But my point is, that right now heavyweight boxing is full of talent. And also, Mike tyson will always be remembered for his power, but he is criminally underrated as a boxer unfortunately. I think heavyweight Is usually the least "stacked" division. It's usually top heavy. But I think it's exciting cause of that. I think that jared Anderson is the next big star about to pop onto the big fights. He is fuckin Uber skilled and can fucking train dudes with his power. I think lightweight is still the best division in boxing, but heavyweight is better now than it has in long long time. And unfortunately that's all that most "casual" fans know or care to know about. I think bam rodriguez can be a huge star, but the only reason I don't think it will happen is the fact that he fights at 115 pounds. . And wants to probably go back to 108 pounds. So the state of boxing is dependent on the heavyweight division being healthy at least and it is and has up and comers also to fill the older guys spots

He's right about that Max Schmeling / Joe Lewis second fight. Boxing during that time was more than sport. It was actually life and meant more than anything. Ironically Max Schmeling got a bum rap. He was german but the Nazi's used him as propaganda and he was not a sympathizer. He was a genuinely good person and they became friends later. HBO did a great documentary on all of this called Joe Lewis - a hero betrayed. Its excellent.

dru Many Germans wanted nothing to do with the war. My grandad (UK) met his best friend during the war. He was a German prisoner of war that my grandad had to watch. In Egypt. But my grandad took him to the cinema and they became best friends until my grandad died. Neither one gave a fuck for the war, but neither one had the choice to join or not. People in the UK, were shot dead if they didn't join the first world. war. The best German scientists actually refused to help to build a nuclear bomb. They wanted no part of it, and caused as many complications as they could. I don't even think Germany were the enemy. The USSR was reaching West, killing its own people. The Japanese were right bastards who invaded China for resources, and the British already had invaded most of the world and had an empire. It's not as simple as 'Hitler was evil', France had already defeated Germany in the past, and countries from the east were trying to take more land from Germany. Hitler being a brave soldier, saw what people were planning, and was put into impossible poverty as punishment for the first world war, so he thought Germany could fight, and be independent/prosperous again, or they could lose their language, their land and their people. Remember that the victor writes the history books. 😊

Glad to see all the love for Teddy on these comments sections of the videos. Whenever I seem to mention being a fan of his around boxing fans I always get shit on, people seem to really dislike him for whatever reason. I've been a fan since I watched Friday Night Fights on ESPN back when I was a kid, him and Max Kellerman use to host the shows together. He always tells it like it is and his passion for boxing was one of the things that helped me become a fan.

I fucking love Teddy Atlas. Seems every time he talks he manages to get to the very essence of life, of existence, of being. Sometimes the buildup takes forever but when he gets to the point, BAM, he fucking nails it.

I'm a bit of an oldie but my son who also loves boxing and is a boxer sent me this video and Teddy Atlas' assessment that Joe Louis was the greatest. Made me re-think. I do remember two things however. In the first Schmeling fight, Joe Louis' mother was in the front row and calling out to the referee in the 12th round 'Please don't let him kill my boy'! About the 2nd Schmelling fight, Nat Fleischer I think, owner of Ring Magazine said "No-one would have beaten Joe Louis on the night of the 2nd Schmeling fight".

Agreed...as I say the same thing. Joe "unleashed" himself...during that 2nd encounter. We NEVER get to see that Joe Louis again and on that night, NO ONE beats the Brown Bomber.

Great video. I'm a Teddy Atlas fan, too. I love some of his unique "Teddy Atlas" expressions...one especially stays with me: In describing a fighter's defensive skill in keeping his opponent at a distance, not letting the other fighter, an "in fighter," get inside. Atlas said of the defensive fighter's tactics something like "he's making his opponent fight his fight, keeping him outside, he's letting his opponent know that if he tries to get inside, he's gonna go through a 'bad neighborhood'."
