Tyron blocking 24 take down attempts was pretty cool to watch. Overall I think woodley did his thing, mayweather-esque, and won the fight technically. He knew he was winning and took his foot off the gas as mayweather does, and it was up to Maia, much like wonder boy, to streal the fight from him.

The term "Boring" is code language for several things. One meaning is "I wish the champ would have been careless, rushed in, and got his block knocked out of the ring and end up with a debilitating head injury". :-)

I say the ufc should only upload stuff to youtube, have 2 fighters charge from 50 feet distance and just headbutt each other and see who gets knocked out, do it over and over again til one passes out or dies. Also we should clickbait the fk out of it, and have Dana sitting in the middle on a throne with the ufc showgirls serving him grapes.

In all 32 of Maia's mma fights he's been knocked out once, that's not necessarily because he has a crazy chin but because when you start throwing hands at him he knows how to put you on your back. Everyone saying Tyron should have just knocked it Maia like it was some easy task are stupid

Why can't it be both boring and an intelligent, good strategy by Tyron? I can acknowledge that that to beat a guy like Maia you have to stop him, at all costs, from bringing the fight to the ground. It was a great plan from Tyron to win the fight. Hell if I, or anyone I knew fought Maia I would tell them to fight this exact way, since Maia basically only has 1 way to win the fight. That doesn't mean it can't also be boring to watch as a spectator.

At the press conference there was a reporter there who asked several unproffessional questions with a nagative tone and bias at Woodley and White did not defend his welterweight champ, because that's who Dana white is. One of the things this reported said was (go to 1 hour, 13 min, 55 seconds), "So one of the most controversial fighters in history, and fans call a boring fighter but fans always seem to come out for and he's made a lot of money in his career was Floyd Mayweather. Would you not compare the way Woodley was booed out of the arena to a fighter like Floyd and how people want to see Mayweather get beat by the bigger fighters." White, "Are you Woodley's agent?" Reporter, "I'm saying a GSP could come in and appease the fans and they would want to see him beat Woodley and that would be a big draw". First, like Woodley said, he is a stronger, faster, younger and better version of GSP and that's way GSP doesn't want it. If GSP really wanted it, I mean really wanted it, none of this is happening. He doesn't want Woodley and everyone knows it, so that reporter is hilarious when he's suggesting the big bad GSP is going to come in and take care of Woodley for the fans. What the fuck are you talking about White!?!???? Unbelievable. As far as the actual fight goes, its simple, if you are the challenger your job is to take the belt. Jon Jones took the belt from Cormia and he looked great doing it. Thompson did nothing to take the belt in 10 rounds and Maia couldn't get it done either. I like both Maia and Wonderboy a lot. If they are fighting anyone but Woodley I am almost always for them. But Woodley defended 24 take downs on 24 attempts and defended his title against 2 specialized fighters. His next fight will most likely be Lawler (if he wants it) and that will be 2 strikers going at it.

If you only watch for the technical aspects then maybe you should just watch training videos on youtube. Then you won't be bothered with the uneducated masses that are bored by watching the 2 fighters do the same thing for 25 minutes. Wonderboy was 1-2 shots from a KO. Good point man Mia kept doing take downs didn't change his strategy for 5 rounds. Holm vs Tate... Holm was up and tried to finish in the 5th got caught. Fucken fans don't give a rats about her now and she missed on some money and title fights. I will not lie Wonderboy 1 was the worst fight I have seen in a while but look at how not defending a legit kick got DC... fans are just blood thirsty want to see someone hit the canvas...

Why the hell are people blaming Tyron for Maia's boring ass takedown attempts? Maia attempted 20 too many takedowns. You can't blame Tyron for shutting down Maia time after time.

the problem with this fight is it was a boring fight stylistically the fight would go 1 of 3 ways 1.woodley ko's him on the feet 2. maia takes him down and submits him 3. its what we got my problem is woodley didn't take any risk and maia didnt have a backup plan

Nobody talks about Maia octogon entrance. dude took water bottle and spilled some, like, half a bottle. So Woodleys legs are un slippable, even on water.

It has become very much an entertainment sport - people want to see the exciting fighters with exciting personalities. It has pretty much come to the point if you don't have the total package you won't be a succesful champion. Also if Dana doesn't "like" you and think you will draw big money you are gonna have a hard time.

Maia was too structured didn't improvise when he had Woodley off balance. He also needed to keep his legs moving during the takedowns. It's a shame his coaches don't utilize him correctly. He can afford to be much more aggressive in his striking because no one will try to take him down. He could throw hundreds of leg kicks while maintaining distance and no one could do anything about it.

It's pointless to try and appease to fans. Look at Lawler getting booed by the fans for winning a close fight against Cerrone. Lawler a guy who went to war against Rory twice, Hendrick, etc.. a supposed fans favourite. So Woodley should try to appease these fans? and make a mistake that could put his title at risk and cost him and his family financially.

Had Maia continuously taken Woodley down and kept trying to submit him, the fight would've still been "boring" to casuals. I don't see anything wrong with strategizing the way Woodley has. Floyd Mayweather has done the same things for years and actually got a lot of hate himself, it's just on a different stage this time around

This fight was not boring at all. It's was so technical and great game plan. Maia vs Anderson Silvia was a boring ass fight!!!!!!

The cool thing is woodley do not engage maia on the ground. Seems like he do not confident on his wrestling prowess on the ground againts Maia ju jutsu. Maia lose are always to someone like woodley, better stand up than him and has good takedown defense.

That fight was definitely boring, Tyron had good defense but terrible offense, he likely could have finished Maia whenever he wanted to. Nothing wrong with admitting a fight was boring, it doesn't make you any less of a MMA fan. Plenty of UFC fighters & coaches called it boring too. People need to chill.

Tyron is a boring ass fighter, but you want to know something? At least he actually goes against the top contenders. Thats what i can honestly say about him. He fought Wonderboy, then fought him again. Then fought Maia. He actually does go against the most deserving challenger. Now i will NEVER buy a fight he is the main event for, but i can at least give him his credit and the dude can stop takedowns like its fuckin nothing. We have champs that refuse to fight the top contender (Michael BITCHping), champ that wont even defend the belt (Conor) and HAD one that would rather give up the belt than fight the one person that really deserved it (GDR). I don't watch much MMA, I'm more of a boxing fan. When I saw this fight with my friends it was my favorite fight of the night other than the main event. It was very entertaining, I honestly didn't get why people are bitching. His distance control and timing was insane. Loved the sweet science he pulled in there. Later I learned he was a boxer and it explained a lot, it's like he is using skills no one even know exist in MMA.

@@Gottiline_Ace His punches are crisp, every one else punches in MMA are garbage with poor stance. Nate Diaz displayed beautiful punching against Gomi, but hasn't looked that clean since. MMA fighters lack things like distance control, combinations that incorporate elusive movement, proper angling, footwork, and countering. Although some posses these abilities it's usually at a basic level. No where near where in needs to be. Woodley used distance control at a high level, and most of his opponents couldn't do shit about it. Kind of like the first time MMA fighters ran in into BJJ.

Why no takedowns of his own? Why no offense off the blocked takedowns so many openings he was just turning his back on. Fought with no balls

this fight was really entertaining. strategical and i had to laugh the first round looked like a dog trying to catch a chicken. Maia didnt take it to the champion and lost. The problem is that dana wants this to be an entertainment business targeting beer drinkers that like to see people get KOed. I like to see who is the best martial artist, we saw 2 very different styles at a very high level match up, i personally have never seen someone so determined to take someone down while the other guy was so determined to stay on the feet, i loved it and woodley is one of the best WW champ we have seen in MMA history

this was a good fight. where did people see boring. the other guy should have done more keg kicks to woodly if he wanted to take woodly down. the guy got two good leg kicks on woodly late in the game and it looked very effective to me.

It's strange that Eddie started a grappling promotion that does everything possible to encourage people to go for submission finishes rather than getting ahead on some artificial points system or on judges' cards, but Tyron does those exact same BS things and Eddie doesn't blast him for it?

It doesn't matter Eddie, if the discrepancy of strength is too wide the other guy won't take that other guy down. Unless he's fighting a guy with no take down defense whatsoever, you're not going to take him down with that amount of strength margin.

Wasn't GSP and ultra conservative fighter? Didn't Anderson Silva look boring against Maia? It's what Maia does. I actually thing Maia vs. GSP would be entertaining. GSP loves to take down guys and lay on them. Maia would be fine with that.

I find it hard to believe anyone was honestly entertained by one fighter trying the same thing repeatedly without success for 25 minutes and another fighter not finishing (or attempting to finish) a blinded fighter that kept trying the same thing for 25 minutes. I know his skill set very well. I'm missing your point. It's hard to put that skill set into action if you can not take your opponent down. So we watched a guy that is 95% bjj NOT do any bjj against a striker avoiding getting taken down.

The fight was boring. When no punches are being thrown the fight ceases to be exciting. We wan to see people going for the finish. Woodleys defense is incredible but at a certain point you need to finish your opponent.

i think its kinda sad that tryon won in dominate fashion and the other guy just cant stop about what damien did and should have done. Joe gave Tyron his props though. the guy is a fan boy

The woodley Maia fight was way better than watching the cyborg hunt a random chick who couldn’t keep her hands up. MMA is supposed to be a fight, not a hunt. Imagine Tyron knocked him out with that first uppercut, the title fight would have been over in 12 seconds. Those are the worst fights.

Fight was so boring I'll never watch it again. Lol

Woodley can straight K.O people, and have wars with people. This fight reminds me of some of Silva's fights. I blame Maia for being one dimensional, and I wouldn't buy a Maia fight ever again. He did this twice in championship fights actually.

People always talking about "what xyz will do for the sport..." Here's what it'll do, more casual fans who only want blood. It'll basically become like a Roman coliseum back in the day with Christians fighting Lions n shit. That said, some fights *coughwrestlerscough* are gonna be a little boring, fuck it. Just make it worth it to fighters by paying for more excitement. But don't penalize them for winning.

If Tyron wants the big $. being the champ and winning is not good enough. No entertainment no big $.

tyron should of fought Damian like Colby did.

All Damian maia fights are all boring until he taps someone.

But if ur an exiting fighter people just wanna watch you. People are not intrested in a Tyron Woodley fight now. He's had 3 boring fights in a row, and if he would have finished maia and been exiting he would have fought gsp, now dana has took that fight away from Woodley and said u were too boring people ain't gonna gonna pay ppv for your boring fights. So gsp is now fighting bisping who dana said will at least throw hands and feet. Woodley can always fall bk on the racist card so I don't know what he's up to. But his last good fight was lawler. I think it's hard to say who he fights next as people are not interested in his fights no more

Here's a crazy idea...... listen to me now......maybe, just maybe, Maia should train some fucking stand up.

Whether anyone agrees that Woodley had the right strategy... does anyone realistically want to see this guy fight? Especially if his fights are going to be as boring as this? No one wants to see this kind of 'fight', which I use in very loose terms.

Braveheart Physique I want to see woodley fight without the belt. Woodley without the belt is a monster... and as I have said before, this is coming from a guy who has never ever liked woodley. BUT woodley with the belt isn't going to to engage or do anything in a fight unless someone literally beats the dog shit out of him because that would force himto fight. Woodley is too content with just having the belt that he is barely even proving why he is the champion. He just wants to coast through fights with one or two punches

Braveheart Physique only saw Woodley fight twice this one and the wonder boy fight and honestly he's such a horrible performer yet we all know he possesses all the tools to be an amazing & AT the same time great performer!
