Male lions hunt a lot more than most people seem to realize. They’re usually on their own for years before taking over a pride of their own & they have to eat lol Plus, they’ll hunt solo or w the other males in their coalition, while they’re away from their prides, which is quite often. Then, when their pride gets overtaken by younger, stronger males…they have to fend for themselves. They’re very efficient hunters, especially when there’s multiple males.

Small as hell so cheap to feed and breed, but noisy and fiercely territorial. You can go to bed and your property is surrounded by lil yappers who will all start barking a storm if someone comes. Their small size and numbers means they can't be all killed easily either and invaders might not even see them while they're sneaking up.

You're absolutely right. There's basically 4 main duties of a male lion in a pride. They are to protect the pride by fighting off all intruders, hunt the larger prey like (Water Buffalo, Giraffe), secure the perimeter by patrolling and scent marking and best of all, is to mate. The King is at times depicted as lazy, however; all lions sleep a lot. He just has a lot to do. They deserve a lot of respect. Especially because of the way they go out, it's hard to watch but when the young bloods come to take the throne they attack him and kill him by breaking his spine.😮

@@24flyingcats84 ok....that would still be from a single subspecies (the African wild cat) Although not "Pantherinae" they still came from the "Felinae" species that divided some 10 thousand years ago from a common ancestor. Just because we are dealing with different lineages, however, lets srill be clear here...... all cats share a common ancestor. The fact that we only domesticated the cat roughly 10,000 years ago, and domesticated the dog roughly 30,000 years ago, the dog has had 20,000 years head start to make many more micro changes. That's not surprising. So Joe was simply stating that we started with the wolf for dogs, and we started with a smaller African wild cat for cats. I get it now.....thanks
