Actually Joe is how normal people's politics used to be. I am for the death penalty for first degree murder. I am against locking people up if they have a drug dependency or had a bag of weed on them. You would agree with conservative ideas on some issues and you would take a left wing stance on others. And your view on things change as you go through life. Your politics will not be the same when you are 45 if compared to the time you were 25. And that is where I have a problem understanding people who are 40 plus and have been a democrat or republican since they were 17. That tells me the persons politics has not matured along as they age. And this social media disease we see now where young people like Shapiro or Charlie Kirk discussing politics along ideological lines. What fuck could a 20 odd year old possibly know about life and living that these morons are touted as the thought leaders? A speaker who describes everyday problems a community or nation is facing in the context of political ideology. Every single issue is caused by people who are radical left or alt right? These fellas are no different than teenage girls who twerk on tiktok for attention and money.

Woah.. hold up. There is a difference between religion and politics here. One is founded entirely on morals and soul searching. Can God be proven with the observations and tools that we have now? For the most part, no. Also people tend to view religious stories as parables. So stories that each have a message and theme, doesn't necessarily mean that the story actually happened irl. So trying to explain every story scientifically would just be useless. Now, lets talk politics. To come up with an opinion on a topic you should do your research. Then after analyzing the different stats you can make your conclusion. This where the "Facts don't care about your feelings" bit comes into play. You can't look at evidence and just say that it is wrong because it offends you or you don't like it. Facts are facts.

I think Ben just doesn't describe his point of view very well. What I think he meant was he doesn't think God would use the bible to give rules for health reasons. The purpose of the bible (from Bens point of view) is to provide instructions to live a moral life. So if the bible says not to eat pork, then there must be some other reason then health that people must not eat pork. This is completely separate idea then God doing miracles through naturalistic means.

    5 жыл бұрын

@@bruhmode3041 I have heard it said before so I am not saying that you were being intentionally dishonest when you said it but the claim itself has no psychological basis. Not only that but when you look for signs that a person might not be completely honest, you look for signs that are uncharacteristic for them. So for example if Ben would usually be a normal smooth talking person, you could say that the way he was speaking in that certain situation was uncharacteristic for him and therefore he might be trying to hide something. But speaking quickly is not something that you would associate with lying and Ben is known for being a witty person who speaks quick. At best you could say that oh, someone is talking weirdly quick in a certain situation which would suggest that the person might be anxious or uncomfortable and one of the reasons why they would feel like that is because they are not telling the truth. In that case you would try to look for other signs that would indicate that but Ben really shows none of them in this clip and to be honest, considering the topic, I have a hard time seeing how or why he would be intentionally lying about his religious beliefs or how he rationalizes them. Since you sincerely seem interested in the topic I will expand a little more. When you notice a sign that is thought in Psychology to be a tell for lying (or any other social behavior), you have to seek confirmation with other behaviors (or ask them additional questions to bring them out) that are attributed to that to reach a justified concern. Why I say concern is because psychology is an extremely soft science and can be used as supportive science to raise suspicions but never to prove guilt or intent or anything like that. You can just often recognize things about people that can make you look into specifics more or question the person about a specific topic to make them slip up even more. Like a very popular belief among psychology fans is that when someone has their arms crossed it means that they are uncomfortable in the situation and they are closing up but it can equally mean that they are very confident and in control of the situation, it all depends on the other signs that they show. English is not my first language so I hope what I wrote is understandable enough.

The second part about marriage is so disingenuous and you know it. He differentiates marriage - which in his religious view is a holy union - from a dinner date in a easily understandable way. One is a recognition by God that your union is acceptable and the other is a recognition by some individuals that your union is acceptable. As long as Ben’s participation in recognizing their union as holy is not required he has no problem enjoying a meal with a man who loves another man. You know that’s the distinction he makes yet you cherry picked this podcast looking for anything you could to try and make the guy look bad.

Also, there is a huge difference between respecting someone's differences and celebrating them. A wedding and subsequent reception are specifically obvious celebrations of the union of message. Having dinner with a gay married couple is just dinner. Again, respecting a recognizing gay marriage is different than celebrating. A person can be friends with a Trump supporter without having to vote for Trump themselves. A person who does not eat a certain type of food for religious reasons can have dinner with someone who does eat those things. Way off base here

You make good points, but here’s a thought: if you go into a bar, and order a beer, you have no option whatsoever to declare to the bartender you’re only willing to pay for 80%, or 90% of the price of the beer, because you don’t agree 100% with how cold it is, or how it tastes is not 100% to your satisfaction. It is 100% or no beer at all. It seems like Shapiro et al want to pay partial respect to 100% of reality, citing the rejected portion as “sinful”,yet isn’t refusal to witness a fundamental part of your friend(s)’ existence the real sin? Also, the Trump and dietary examples you cite are personal choices, with absolutely no bearing on legal recognition, in other words you can change whenever you like and it just becomes your new choice. Not so with marriage. A legal decree is established, hence only an alteration of that legal fact (ie divorce) can change it, so to recognise it at all is to have reverence for it. Colourblind people can’t claim that traffic lights don’t apply to them because they don’t see red lights, to accept a driver’s license is to accept EVERY road rule, not just the ones you prefer.

The reason why he speaks so fast is just a cheap debating tactic; the more 'points' you can throw out in X amount of time, the more effort the opposition has to spend dispelling them. In a formal debate or a televised segment, there is only so much time available for each person to speak. Everything that Shapiro says is easily countered if you have the time to do so, but if someone babbles enough bullshit quickly enough, you simply won't be able to get around to everything they said, leaving the impression (in some audience's minds) that you didn't have a response to it.

@Olallo Delgado nah i think he's saying that joe rogan serves as a gateway to the alt right and introduces a lot of average steves to the alt right. and that some of these average steves who had completely reasonable views become mass shooters and terrorists. Here's an excerpt from the 2019 el paso shooting wikipedia article as an example of online right wing sites and forums leading to mass shootings: A gunman shot and killed 23 people[n 1] and injured 23 others.[10] The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting as an act of domestic terrorism and a possible hate crime.[11][12] The shooting has been described as the deadliest attack on Latinos in modern American history.[13][14] Patrick Crusius, a 21-year-old from Allen, Texas, was arrested shortly after the shooting and charged with capital murder. Police believe a manifesto with white nationalist and anti-immigrant themes, posted on the online message board 8chan shortly before the attack, was written by Crusius; it cites the year's earlier Christchurch mosque shootings and the right-wing conspiracy theory known as the Great Replacement as inspiration for the attack.

  • @danielalegre2371

    @danielalegre2371

    4 жыл бұрын

@Olallo Delgado He has brought on Milo Yiannopoulos, Steven Crowder, Alex Jones as well as Ben Shapiro. I know Ben doesn't like to label himself as alt-right, but for the most part the majority of people consider him as such. I'm sure ben does not condone mass shootings, however videos like his do lead to people to joining forums like the 8chan that i mentioned earlier. By no means am I saying we should "cancel" joe rogan for inviting alt right people into his podcast, my main issue is that he does a poor job of challenging their ideas in his podcasts. To be fair he does this for virtually all his podcasts, righties and lefties alike, he is not a journalist by any means. Like mentioned in this video, Joe had plenty of opportunities to call out Ben on his stances on homosexuality, yet did not do so. And i think the biggest problem is ultimately the difference between if you radicalize someone to the alt-right (aka borderline Nazi-ism), they tend to be more violent, and (in my personal opinion) immoral, i.e. racist etc, than radicalizing to the left, which is known for its hippies, pacifists, vegans and eco-friendly, etc.

It's actually more about concrete talking points. First look at the assumptions of reality implied in their assertions and fact-check every single one. Secondly, ask them not what they're against, but what they're for, and go as much into detail as you can. Ask how precisely Trump's policies have improved their lives on a concrete basis and what exactly their favorite actions of his are. Once you get away from ideology and the us vs. them, there's nothing left to talk about, which is exactly the point, because now each answer is a dead end leading back to hatred against a manufactured bogeyman as driving factor, straight from the horse's mouth, and that's really all you can achieve. You can't persuade them, all you can do is make them express their intent for hatred.

Elijah Dickson You missed something here so let me break it down friend. 1.) The reason David’s analysis makes sense is because pigs ACTUALLY are filthy animals who are disease ridden and, at the least, require thorough cooking to avoid getting sick. The Torah bans shellfish and bottom feeders for a similar reason. This is a naturalistic explanation which makes perfect sense. Therefore, to say even a perfectly sensible naturalistic explanation is not favored as the correct one, means Shapiro believes strictly in divine omniscience and Gods interfering in the world as a literal (non-allegorical) history. So when Joe asks him about Exodus, the *consistent* answer would then be: “I *reject* any naturalistic explanation that a natural wind helped the Hebrews in some way! Instead, Moses raised his rod and thousands personally witnessed the seas parting.” But Shapiro didn’t say this. Shapiro somehow accepts that a natural wind parted the seas, but rejects that the Torah would deny eating filthy animals because of their carried disease, and tendency to kill people.. If you don’t see the inconsistency, you’re doing some impressive mental gymnastics..

Chris Hansen why? He is great at sounding confident and being articulate but when it comes to actual substance he is completely feelings over facts. It just so happens that conservatives agree with his feelings. The guy said that single payer healthcare would “make his doctor wife a slave!” Gtfo with that nonsense. Someone should tell all of the doctors in Great Britain that they’re enslaved then.

He’s great at what he does and that is why his right wing establishment bosses i.e. the heritage foundation etc. pay him big bucks. It doesn’t matter if he contradicts himself, says nothing of substance or makes sociopathy look like rationality as long as he puts on a show. FYI I can’t play QB but that doesn’t mean I can’t criticize nfl QB play.

    1. That explanation was derived directly from the bible, it was not a naturalistic explanation thought up out of his head. 2. Ben sees marriage as a religious practice between a man and a woman. Going to a gay wedding directly supports that which people of his believe deem sinful. Dinner is not a religious institution, so he can go out to dinner with a gay couple without supporting the fact that they are gay and this is fine. He believes that being gay is a sin in the same way that he believes eating pork is a sin. If you eat pork, Ben Shapiro does not hate you. If you offer him pork, he won't eat it, if you invite him to a pig roast he will not attend. If you ask him to go to the store and pick you up some bacon he will decline because he is not going to support practices which he deems sinful. That doesn't mean he can never, ever associate with you, and any other day he could gladly go to dinner with you. At dinner you could even order pork (so long as he doesn't pick up the tab), in the same way you could go to dinner with a gay partner, and Ben would have no problem because he is not directly supporting what he feels are sinful practices. Ben Shapiro doesn't hate gay people any more than he hates people who eat bacon, because most holy books treat all sins the same.

First, this is no blanket defense of Ben Shapiro. I see where you’re coming from, but you’re really missing some key distinctions here that nullify your criticisms. First, Rogan is proposing the idea that the Mosaic law is directly related to the potential health risks, but Ben is saying he prefers to not use naturalistic rationale for the law. When Joe asks about the miracle of the parting of the Red Sea, he’s asking about the mechanisms that would result in a miracle... to which Ben shares a naturalistic explanation. They’re two different things: 1) rationale for a law 2) the explanation of a miracle. You don’t have to agree with Ben or be religious to see this. Next, you’re again missing the distinction between the celebration (the wedding) of a particular “sin” (as Ben would call it) and casual association (the dinner). Rogan understands the difference and playfully pushes Ben’s conviction by suggesting the after party, bbq, etc.- Ben demurs because he must be consistent. The hypothetical dinner at Ben’s home is a neutral event that doesn’t celebrate the union- To use a religious example, though Jesus wouldn’t have partaken in corrupt tax-collecting, he would still associate with the corrupt tax collectors... Again, you don’t have to agree with Ben or be religious to see the difference.

  • @teatowel11

The only reason Joe might act as a gateway to the right is because the left misrepresents the right so badly. Instead of debating a strawman, he actually gets people on to discuss issues in a reasonable manner. It turns out the the right has reasons for their views. They are wrong most of the time but if the left actually did it’s job in deconstructing these view rather than just dismissing them then Joe’s interviews with right wingers wouldn’t be so compelling.
