Called the “closest thing Silicon Valley has to a conscience,” by The Atlantic magazine, Tristan Harris spent three years as a Google Design Ethicist developing a framework for how technology should “ethically” steer the thoughts and actions of billions of people from screens. We all do it it, we seek favour, making daily survival more tolerable as favour provides advantages you might not otherwise have. Will reproduction, gene selection be influenced by the realm of social media? Has human language influenced gene selection. Print? Radio? Television? The tribe upstream ? ... Be aware, vigilence survives chaos ( Looks like I like so I select, tastes sour so I spit it out or ? Do I aquire a taste because my friend loves to drink it not for the sour taste but for the way it makes you feel after you suffered the initial pain, if you go this route then perhaps more pain is in store. Be authentic to your self but know that you do not belong to yourself, you belong to your needs your desires joys and sufferings evolution decided for you, the internet evolves with and perhaps without us. Find a cause and give it a good shove before you jump on for the ride and you better run after that sled before you miss it go down that slipperey slope surrender to the ride now that you have chosen it it's kind of a mess getting off, try the hand brakes??

"Attention is the highest currency you have, therefore everybody wants your attention, your friends, television media etc. Including you. including your own ego, wants your own attention, constantly interrupting you from your passion. Therefore you have to bring it back with your meditation and with your breath 100 times a day." :))))) And as Dr. Joe Dispenza says statistically people lose attention 6 times per minute.

Kinda like in the military, but more so. After they call you an idiot, they show you how to do it right. If you still screw up, they gather around and berate you until you successfully do the thing. After that, they will constantly talk about how it took you so many tries to get it right. If it was particularly embarrassing, it would become your nickname. FOREVER. Best job I ever had.

I think social media can be a good thing depending on how you use it. If you can ignore the push down rabbit holes, you can get some really great information and collaboration from social media based on your particular interests. I completely agree that it is dangerous for children, since they are too young and naive to handle it in most cases. As a teacher, I’ve seen damaging tic tock trends carry over into actual schools, such as destruction of school property. I see social media as a tool. I love my Facebook groups for bouncing ideas and sharing findings with real people who have similar interests. I also love connecting with distant family members. I love KZread for things like this podcast. I also enjoy taking a peek into the conspiracy theories from time to time. Not all of them are b/s, and I love that we can pull that curtain back and decide for ourselves, instead of hitting the brick wall that is censorship. If one is vigilant and aware, you can ignore the algorithms’ suggestions; and you can arm yourself with knowledge as to which companies are exploiting you for data the most. Conversations like these are so important.

This is the best comment by Andrea Laing not about the internet but about meditation practice.

@Lycan It doesn't matter who the message is intended for, Google has no place in even talking about. Yes, that type of message is meant for their engineers. I dont want Google or any other company that provides a service trying to determine right from wrong or encourage their workers to "do good" rather than doing their jobs. Googles place on the world stage is to provide an accurate search engine and the rest of the products they provide. They have an insane amount of power and influence. I dont want them using it for whatever their concept of "good" is. I dont want them weilding it at all other than what naturally emanates from properly ordering search results or properly providing whatever transparent service they offer. The philosophical through-line here is that "not influencing" has an effect on people as well as influencing, therefore they feel they have an obligation to influence "righteously". I say thats wrong because they dont have the right to determine what is and isnt "good".

When youtube opens you might have a bunch of recommended videos, but in the end you are the one actually choosing what content you wanna feed yourself and when it comes to children, if the parents are self awared they'll be able to teach their offspring about the dangers of the world, but if parents arent self awared.... well... it's sad but its like human beings should be constantly reminded of what differs us from animals.

people should definitely keep an eye on how much KZread their kids watch, I'm not someone who would be a super strict, controlling type of parent. But a lot of kids just watch sooooooo much god damn KZread that it's nuts! And this is coming from someone who watches KZread a lot too, so I'm not trying to act like I'm up on some sort of pedestal or better than anyone, I'm just saying I've been there so I know what it's like. Only difference is that I wasn't that young when I started watching KZread, it was just now and then for a long time. Now I watch multiple hours a day after work, and kids don't have any other responsibilities in their youth which is great, but with about 14 hours hours a day to do whatever you want they can spend ALL of that time on KZread or the internet as long as they have their own phone/tablet. My sister spent a lot of time with her I pad for a long time, but we made sure it wasn't all day and we spent a lot of time actually playing as well. But a lot of kids these days don't really get to play, and those that do aren't doing it that much, maybe at recess but especially with schools being closed and quarantine for so long, it's been harder for kids to just go out and play or have sleepovers or any of that. A lot of parents just giver their young child an iPhone or tablet to sit down and be quiet for hours without whining or asking them questions, and that is straight up bad parenting. Not necessarily to let them have it in the first place, but there has to be limits at first until they hit a certain age in my opinion. To let kids just sit on the electronics all day and use it as a baby sitter so you don't really have to watch your kids or spend real time with them is some weak bullshit, they wouldn't be on it all the time if people were playing with their kids and spending time with them 🤐😶🙃

I found it. Neil Postman "Amusing Ourselves to Death """"We were keeping our eye on 1984. When the year came and the prophecy didn't, thoughtful Americans sang softly in praise of themselves. The roots of liberal democracy had held. Wherever else the terror had happened, we, at least, had not been visited by Orwellian nightmares. But we had forgotten that alongside Orwell's dark vision, there was another - slightly older, slightly less well known, equally chilling: Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. Contrary to common belief even among the educated, Huxley and Orwell did not prophesy the same thing. Orwell warns that we will be overcome by an externally imposed oppression. But in Huxley's vision, no Big Brother is required to deprive people of their autonomy, maturity and history. As he saw it, people will come to love their oppression, to adore the technologies that undo their capacities to think. What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture, preoccupied with some equivalent of the feelies, the orgy porgy, and the centrifugal bumblepuppy. As Huxley remarked in Brave New World Revisited, the civil libertarians and rationalists who are ever on the alert to oppose tyranny "failed to take into account man's almost infinite appetite for distractions." In 1984, Orwell added, people are controlled by inflicting pain. In Brave New World, they are controlled by inflicting pleasure. In short, Orwell feared that what we fear will ruin us. Huxley feared that what we desire will ruin us.""""" This book is about the possibility that Huxley, not Orwell, was right.

@@AAscension I’d advice you to not pass judgment on others for using commonly used terms. It’s not like they used shorthand for the entire comment.

Except for the climate hysteria: - BR had wildfires, not a presidential directive to slash and burn - US emissions have gone down to 1992 levels, Paris Accord is an expensive global welfare program to pay polluting nations - I dove the reefs of the Caribbean after a 20 year hiatus and they looked BETTER - Global CO2 concentration before humanity was 1000ppm; it is only 400ppm today - CO2 is not a toxin nor a pollutant; plants need it to survive - A net increase of 2 degrees Celsius would make the Earth more fertile and open up more arable lands and more crop yields - Sea Level rose 90 feet in just a month 20,000YA as Ice Age snowmasses melted long before power plants ---When the ice in your ice water cup melts, does your cup overflow? - they erased the 1910-1920 mini Global Cooling period from their infamous "Hockey Stick" graph - They ignore that Solar weather controls Earth climate - banning DDT caused many malarial deaths and "Silent Spring" was debunked - Apple protecting user data? A terrorist shot up a Naval base and Apple would not unlock the deceased's phone, not even with a Court order Not everything you hear online is true, not even in a podcast with the focus of doubting online content.

oe Rogan's voting rationale: "Chamberlain, and, to a lesser degree, Winston Churchill, both exhibit symptoms of aging and are less cogent. Therefore, I'm going to vote for the most energetic and robust candidate, Adolf Hitler." Yes, that's right: Rogan prefers Trump over Biden because Biden shows symptoms of aging. WTF?

@Khaled Rapp not really. While the very purpose of every business is to turn a profit, you can absolutely conduct honest business that doesn't harm anyone. Not all companies are evil. It's not meaningless if a little pizzeria tells their employees not to be evil. Stuff like not spitting on your customers pizzas or defrauding them goes a long way. Depends on the context really. But saying it's meaningless is in itself meaningless.
