Exactly!! This reminds me of the part in the podcast where Adam said “the only reason men are better at sports is because they were designed for men” and then was flabbergasted when joe simply disagreed. I think that the effect he’s talking about happens when people identify with their beliefs, which causes them to want to be right rather than want to find the truth, which is exactly what Adam does. The point he was making is everyone is confident and comfortable in one thing and not in another. The "Alpha" football jock in high school would probably be a "Beta" to the captain of the chess club if they were playing chess and vice versa. And so the girls in the chess club would probably be more attracted to chess nerd and see HIM as the "alpha" while the girls who like football players would be more attracted to the other. an alpha is something when something in their life is not satisfying them they work towards improving it. They are acutely aware that the time is now to fix the things that arent right in their lifes. a beta is someone who wallows in self-pity and blames the world when something in their life is unsatisfying, because its easier than working on yourself and admitting you have faults that must be fixed I don't know why people overcomplicate it by adding dating dynamics towards it.

While I don't believe in alpha and beta, there is a clear hirarchy in society and social situations, its absurd to say it isnt. I was always a pretty insecure dude and since I broke up with my ex I started working out and facing my fears. Its really strange what formal clothing, a few muscles and a confident smile can do for you, people now very much respect me and dont take advance of the good guy in me. What is more strange is that I had horrible anxiety and OCD and it is gone because my self worth and convidence is way higher. My advice for all the guys in the 'beta' situation: 1. Go do something your pasionate about. 2. Work out, eat healthy. 3. Practise to stand up for yourself, against stronger people than you think you are. 4. Don't show your insecurity in social situations, learn to cope with them in a healthy manner and try to see them as nothing more than an insecurity and not reality. 5. Believe your worth is, because you are like everyone else. 6. Fix your finances. 7. Treat woman with respect but never ever simp.

There is a hirarchy in many things but, if you read my comment, I don't believe in the alpha or beta thing. You can be dominant in a lot of situations but not in others. I am a short guy myself haha. I think it is better for people to focus on becoming a better version of themself in stead of the whole alpha or beta thing, we are not a group of wolves, humans are complex. But some people don't aknowledge that there is a hirarchy between men and to that I would say, go to a bar, club or any other social situation where people have more primitive behaviors and observe for yourself.

I spent my 20s as an introverted, socially awkward geeky type. I quit smoking at 29, moved halfway across the country, kick started my career, and got in the best physical shape of my life at 35. I start earning 6 figures at 38. Even if Alpha and Beta designations were scientifically applicable to humans (they are not), the designations were never applicable for life. I've seen plenty of women who were fine af in high school wind up fat af by 35. Life circumstances (and classifications) are a reflection of choices, environment, & genetics.

An alpha is the leader of any given social hierarchy. It's dependent on context and therefore the fact that it changes over time or the social group one is in is not an argument against its existence in humans. I simply state that the term "alpha" should never have been applied because the scientist who originally coined the term and applied it to wolf interactions later in his life realized and admitted that his conclusions were erroneous due to his observation subjects being wolves in captivity. There are, in the wild, in the real world, no alpha wolves. So, again, restate it makes zero sense to apply that specific term to any human interactions. The connotation of the word "alpha" is false because it is based on observation of an unnatural, controlled environment wherein the wolves were effectively forced into their hierarchies.

That's exactly what they are both saying - scientifically there's no such thing as alpha and beta males in the evolutionary hierarchy of humans, but they both agree that more dominant and more submissive individuals exist. However, Adam is also making the point that if you change the environment that those individuals are in, then that may have a dramatic effect on those individuals' dominance and confidence. He doesn't articulate it well, but I get the point he is making.

Both men made some interesting points. I don't completely agree or disagree with either of them and i have a few reasons for that. While i do agree with Joe that men and women are attracted to a certain body type, i don't think that's set in stone for every member of the species. An athletic build is attractive to almost every human, but there are exceptions. Where i have a problem with Joe is that i think he can't see past that. That athletic physique will get you noticed but there's a lot more to attraction than just physique, i.e. intellect, social skills, etc. I agree with Adam when he says we cannot just say 'evolutionary psychology' everytime we find a behaviour trait that's common in current society. Where i find a problem with Adam is that i think he's denying the fact that people are generally attracted to an athletic physique. However, the bottom line is that we try to boil down a very complicated subject like sexual attraction in humans to a very simple theory of alphas and betas. But we've heard alpha and beta for so long from so many different sources that now we often vehemently oppose anyone who questions the legitimacy of that theory.

If we were, every meathead short tempered "dominant alpha male" would be a billionaire with a plethora of friends and happy all the time, and every quiet, introverted nerd would be poor, friendless, and sad. This clearly isn't the case. Maybe back in the stone age, but we are living in a much more complex society that rewards things other than dominance and strength.

The confirmation bias and the beliefs that form ones identity is an interesting topic especially when it comes to science. As recent years have shown, that creeps into what we once though was an unbiased, facts-based area and has made us all skeptical of how unbiased and trustworthy many people in the scientific community truly are.

Real alpha males don't have to tell people they're an alpha.

One thing that's always bothered me about alpha/beta deniers is that they always stick to the wolf comparison. "Well actually wolves organize into family units and the so-called 'alphas' are really the parents. Then the children move away and start their own packs and become their own alphas." Okay, sure. I question that declaration, but I won't argue with it. But do you know where you _can_ see a clear alpha/beta social structure? In our closest living relatives. Chimpanzee clans always have leaders and subordinates. That's an observed pattern. Why wouldn't we be like chimps?

It does not exist. Embrace it and move on. Chimpanzees social hierarchies are complex and aren’t simply about who is the strongest and most aggressive. Some alphas maintain leadership via fostering alliances through grooming and other social interactions, they lead because they are the most intelligent, not simply because they have the biggest muscles or listen to the most podcasts. So we are just like our closest relatives, complex.

Adam is right though, this Alpha beta ideology doesn't account for how humans ostracize overly dominant and demanding character traits as being anti-social. Joe is mostly right about the hr glass figure being consistently the beauty standard, however different circumstances call for different beauty standards, in times of conflict, women with more masculine traits tend to be seen as more attractive, and there is a correlation between social class and male preferences for boob size and women's body fat percentage. Your dominance changes all the time, go to the gym and you'll see people benching 100s of pounds, while you struggle with just benching the ba, then you go to work where your a mid tier manager. Adam is right but he's fucking terrible at defending his arguments Also all the top tech companies of the world are run buy people with beta traits. Bill gates doesn't exactly exude dominance

It may not be the be-all and end-all of human relationships, probably due to our massively complicated and money-driven society. As a woman, I don't think women are hardwired necessarily to be attracted to a confident athletic man. Our sexual preference is more flexible because of our role as a mate. Females as the weaker sex and nurturer of offspring have needed to look for a mate that can provide security for offspring and protection even from rape by undesirable mates. So having children with a geneticly healthy male would not be enough to ensure survival of those children. A provider mate might be more necessary based on environment. I think that's why so many women are sexually attracted to rich or powerful men rather than buff dudes. Providers also aren't necessarily confident alphas. But yea the same can't be said for men.

The ideology of alphas existing are flawed and cute to say the least guys are not getting the bigger picture. Sure you might be bigger or stronger and look more like a girl with you're cute ass genes but no alpha male is going to stop a skinny dude or woman slitting his throat wide open in his sleep or from behind. The principles of an alpha is so flawed and that's if we think exist, an alpha would be one who is smarter regardless of size and looks and uses his brain not a dumb comparison to a big animal who cannot think when it comes to the 21st century Mr joe and allot of girls will in def choose the guy with a brain in the long run who can actually provide trust me. An alpha is just a social position held generally by attractive confident men who are fairly smart and they tend to "win" in social situations and attract more women as a result.
