One of the best games ever. Used to play this with my brother growing up. Amazing.

Great playthough of an actually GREAT port! and now that's what I call TRUE TEAM-UP work!

11:08 Now this scene has a very cool use of both background layers combined with tile priorities to make it seem like there's more layers than there are there with those dino bones, specifically with how the players can basically walk inside the rib cage of the dino there. Very nice.

Love this game when I was a kid 👍✌️

This version is more like the arcade version more than the SNES version

This version is so much more enjoyable than SNES! There are more enemies at once (up to two times more!), the game plays smoother (while SNES has frame rate issues), there's the charge attack (unlike SNES)... No contest. Also while the SNES version has bit more colorful graphics, the Genesis version runs in wider AND better-shaped resolution (320x224 pixels) and thus has more screen space and good aspect ratio while SNES has deformed graphics due to the system flawed resolution (256x224 pixels, square-shaped despite being meant to run on 4:3 screens).

The resolution is one of the biggest problems I have with SNES ports in general. I believe that Chuck Rock, Earthworm Jim and Boogerman are all games that have the same size sprites, but a smaller screen size as a result of the lower resolution, making it harder to see what is in front of you. Of course, there are many more with this problem than just the games I mentioned. As you suggested, the SNES one runs at 30fps, unlike this version, which is 60fps. Of the things you mentioned, there is one flaw, which only affects 2 player mode, that I consider even more serious than anything already discussed. The SNES version has friendly fire, which makes the 2 player mode a lot less playable. Perhaps I will still beat the game 2 player someday, but this keeps it from being a lot more fun than it could have been.

Yeah, SNES resolution is a huge flaw, as bad as the system's weak CPU, maybe even worse actually. All the games that you mentioned are particularly affected by this problem and same goes for Zool, The Chaoes Engine, Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies, the Strike series (Desert, Jungle and Urban Strike), the FIFA series, the NBA Live series and many others... btw I didn't know that SNES version has friendly fire. Must be annoying. Can't it be turned off? And the arcade does this too?

That "feature" is only on the SNES version and can't be turned off. The projectiles you throw don't hurt the other player, fortunately, but every time you attack, he is also hitting with his club on SNES, which does hurt the other player if you're close enough, and it's not so easy to always keep your distance from the other player. The roll move, which is only on SNES, also hurts the other player.

Whoa, I never played the Genesis version. The only thing I'm not diggin here compared to the SNES version is the music. Everything else honestly looks better.

I probably went to the wrong Joe and Mac game on SNES, because I saw one that looks different from the Sega Genesis version. This seems similar to the arcade version titled "Caveman Ninjas." The arcade had a few more things added.

The latter would be quite hard to implement due to the Video chip and memory. Game is already running out of video memory with these levels, and throwing such large sprites could be a hell with that sprite limit. Some pixel art or animations are also trimmed out, which probably means they were running out of ROM space as well (making it hard to implement that "getting electrocuted" animation)

right on. And for the intensity, one can pretend that their game cost them 25 cents. Although we all know that the arcade doesn't cost you anything no days, hense the excitement and intensity is diminished.

If you want *higher resolution with good aspect ratio + more action going on + better performances + faithful gameplay (with the charge attack which is lacking on SNES)* play SEGA" I guess that you won't mind my edit ;3 And yeah, all of this means more fun on Sega, as often :) Also worth mentioning that actually the Mega Drive port runs in higher resolution than even the arcade version!

Man! The SNES version was technically better but the Megadr... Genesis version was more fidel to the original. If you know what I mean. .

How is the SNES version "technically better" with lower resolution, wrong aspect ratio, performance issue and less stuff on screen?! :v SNES version just displays more colors but that's about it (and the Genesis version could have looked better graphically but apparently the developers did a simple autoconversion for the colors hence the non-optimized palettes). But I agree that the Genesis version is more faithful to the original and is my favorite port :)
