I'm glad this was a good one! When I was in high school in a world cuisine class, we made king cakes and had so much fun seeing who in each group got the baby! I loved that part of the class since my best friend in the world lives in Louisiana. He's not a partier, but we learned a lot about the regional food and culture there as a whole. It was great!

@@TamiDunn Yes! Just reading things can make it easily go over your head. I love learning things visually, then doing it myself. It was a very helpful class that jumpstarted my love of cooking/baking. 😁

I’m so glad y’all were able to try this!! I’m from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, so I e enjoyed king cake as long as I can remember. It’s so fun getting to try different variations from all the different bakeries each year. Also, I love that you took the time to do research to explain to those who don’t know about the king cake backstory. Thanks for that!

The only way for us to get one here in Massachusetts is to order it online. 24 bucks for the cake and about another 30 bucks for delivery. Damn...!

I’ve had a King Cake shipped from Haydels bakery in New Orleans years ago. They sent a plastic baby for you to put in yourself. It was very good. I wanted to try it. I wouldn’t order one again just because it was expensive especially with the shipping charge and we don’t eat a lot of pastries. Thanks for the review!

Since it was so fresh, how far out was the date on the box?

Our handy man/contractor’s name is Joe Gambino 😂 Too funny! I’ll have to try to get one of these for him! We always had king cakes in French class (1st grade -9th) and they were never very good 🙈 The baby was always just a boring Lima bean 😅 Glad this was a nice one! Thank you!!

My father is a huge Mardi Gras nut. He goes all out lol.... We have a funny tradition here too for the Danish Version of Halloween. That happens in end Feb. Kids dress up and then they hit a wooden barrel that contains candy. The one who hits the bottom out is the "Cat Queen" and the one to hit the last plank of wood off the line is the "Cat King". In the old days, a black cat was in the barrel.... cause it gave you bad luck lol

you can get them from portuguese bakeries in the uk around easter and christmas time

Mines came with a baby inside with no warning. Glad I found it on my first slice. Purchased it from Kroger for 17.99 with strawberry filling. Traditional was 14.99. Both 22oz great size and actually took up the whole box unlike some king cakes.

First of all, why did you put an s on the end of the word "mine"? 2nd, what do you mean there was no warning about the baby? That's what a king cake is. That's like buying a Coke and saying you weren't warned about the carbonation.

I have tried it before, it’s very interesting.

My local grocery store has this exact king cake. Surprised it made it to Wisconsin. It's lacking in cinnamon flavor though. Mine has a baby in it. I can guess why mine is weaker in cinnamon. It's the cream cheese version. Maybe that makes a difference.
