Ronaldinho was very strong. I actually remember seeing him before he got to Barca, playing for Brasil and PSG. He would regularly take the ball, make some brilliant runs, surrounded with players trying to push him off the ball, but they were just bouncing off of him. Also very fast, not just acceleration, he had great pace. Athleticism was a huge part of his game, and when he lost it and somehow decided to quit (slowly after the WC 2006) he was never the same. He was still skillful at Milan, but wasn't 1/10th of a player he was a few years ago, when he lost that pace, power, explosiveness etc. And yes, I agree, his through balls and vision were amazing. You rarely have a players with such skills, dribbling, athleticism, but with such vision too. He was comfortably better than Kaka there, for example. He was a freak. A will also add he was a brilliant finisher, inside the box or distance shooting. In some other systems, maybe nowadays, he would probably be able to get 20+ league goals easily, but he was more about creating and providing. He was clinical up front. Such a gifted footballer. Complete attacking powerhouse.

In his prime he had more capacity than Messi and Ronaldo. Meaning that he had more skills and tricks up his sleeve than a 10 trick magician, he had power and explosive pace, he had supreme ball control ability, he didn’t need to play one twos like Messi to get past defenders. He simply was like a train, a powerful, tricky, masterful train that could not be stopped.

  • @DirtyJamesUK

Messi needs one twos to get past defenders? Lol. I've heard it all now 😂. I'm not even a Messi fan but that's absolute rubbish. Henry played and trained with Barca when Messi was younger and said he's the only player he's seen who could just pick up the ball, take on the whole team on his own and score.

  • @ConstantineJoseph

@@DirtyJamesUK that was when Messi was at 19-22 years of age. When he hit mid 20s, he was relying more on playing off the attacking midfielders one touch pivots. Ronaldinho if you watched his greatest performance ever at the Bernabeu in November 2005 at 25 years of age. Picked the ball up behind the half way line and easily blitzed pass any Real Madrid defenders like Salgado or Ramos because of his height at 1.81m and his explosive power that coupled with his agile and dexterous body to samba his way in for a solo goal. He did that not once but twice. And he at his prime at the zenith of his powers is more efficient, more of a machine than Messi because of the mixture of physical prowess, greater strength, more ball control across the board and the intellect than Messi. Messi at 25 considering that as peak age, was not carrying Barcelona to UCL victory alone, he needed Xavi, Iniesta etc. Ronaldinho didn’t need anyone. He was the reason of the rise of Barcelona. In fact Samuel Eto’o needed him. Xavi and Iniesta were still journeymen and weren’t even close to their final product. Messi looked up to Ronaldinho. Not taking anything away from Messi who is an all time great but if you asked me prime Ronaldinho, he’s above prime Messi

  • @ConstantineJoseph

    3 ай бұрын

@@pauliyonas3576 nope. Prime Messi was definitely among the greats. But if you look at what made Messi great was because Xavi and Iniesta were in their prime as well feeding him and making him great. They all look like co partners in crime. On the other hand Ronaldinho. You are too young to remember. Ronaldinho made Xavi, Edmilson, Iniesta and even a young Messi a supporting player to him. He can carry the entire midfield on his own. He set the pace, set the tone for every match, being a one man dominating force. Every long ball was played to him. He could trap that ball with the chest or the foot. Without him, Xavi and Iniesta would not have that developmental level to support Messi. Ronaldinho at prime has the higher capacity and more lung power, more burst of speed and the trickery to overcome Messi’s brilliance. Messi is an instinctive player with a genius left foot. Ronaldinho is more of a workhorse, unpredictable samba player that bamboozles yet also very effectively in an European way controls and efficiently orchestrates the team. Under him Eto’o became a goal scoring extraordinaire. Ronaldinho made Eto’o, made Xavi, made Iniesta, made Deco, and Messi to reach their potential. Messi on the other hand wants the club to revolve around him. Which is a lesser level than howRonaldinho built Barcelona into a great when he left. when Messi left, Barcelona declined rapidly because he didnt develop his teammates

I don't mind longevity. Because I don't want someone like Ronaldinho becoming like C Ronaldo and Messi and the end of the career. R10 came and he delivered something so special in those 5-6 years, no one will ever be able to achieve that level of madness and that's what make him special. What Messi and C Ronaldo did in their long career, he did even more of that in 6 years of his prime.

Not because they are “better”. And Ronaldo is the best of all time to me. Just my opinion. The whole package but ronaldinho was ridiculous for those few years.
