He was exhausted early because he put so much effort into stopping Eubank early after the knockdown. You can see him reaching deep for the last half of the fight. Eubank wasn't easy for anyone, he was physically very strong.

He should have been covered much better then he was but considering who he was Joe loved the sport of boxing and was content with the European market, he got a lot further in life with his family always in front of him knowing when the time came, he was that man to beat. Joe and Floyd and Andra ward retired from boxing, boxing didn't retire them. So many boxers fall sick and live devastating lives as a result of all trauma to head and body. It's nice to see men like Joe Calzaghe and Floyd Mayweather because their the ones who walked away fully intact. it's interesting some of the punches Joe Calzaghe throws aren't even punches at all. it's like a flailing, slapping , claw attack. When he really gets going on the combinations, sometimes.

Calzaghe is one of the greatest fighters of all time. Very underrated by the American press and even the UK press. Loved to watch Joe and glad he retired undefeated.

Calzaghe was a clever skillful fighter with very quick hands, but he lacked elite power. He overwhelmed opponent with massive punch output. I liked Joe but his career was essentially home based living many to wonder just how good he really was. In this Hopkins fight he was a sensation! Joe beat Hopkins and Roy jones two legends so who should be remenber more Joe deserves more credit a true legend

This was a very entertaining fight...too bad about the vanishing audio.

Best way to watch this fight is with the volume off , Lampley and Kellerman are annoying so biased .

What happened to the sound?

I remember this fight and watching it back, more specifically the rhetoric from the American pundits before the fight and the commentators during the fight: the Yanks never faced the reality and the reality was that Joe Calzaghe was a world class fighter. Even Hopkins himself said he just saw Calzaghe as a white boy. If he'd done his homework he'd have worked out that Calzaghe was a real threat. In the first round here, one of the commentators remembered that Calzaghe had put Chris Eubank down "....but Hopkins ain't Eubank!!" he quipped. No..... dickhead. You're right. Bernard Hopkins ain't Chris Eubank. Eubank was far and away a better, harder fighter than Hopkins ever was.... but I guess that didn't fit in with the "USA rules the frikkin' world!" mentality. So, even with a fighter like Calzaghe going over to the states with his record and with his skill for all to see..... the Yanks STILL refused to accept just how good Calzaghe was..... and that's gonna filter down to the fighters. Hopkins had clearly never done a minute of homework on Calzaghe and so you get what happenned...... Joe Calzaghe gave ignorant, arrogant America yet ANOTHER boxing lesson.

Hopkins won that fight for sure. The knock down, the clean punches, controlling the pace of the fight. It was a Hopkins fight Eubank is not remotely in the same league as Hopkins. Don't be silly

You have to love the Americans blindness to their unwarranted chokehold over boxing. All big belts are run by the US, the big money is in the US, the most famous events are in the US. Not being recognized as a non-American boxer in the US only means that an American boxer is holding those belts and the American fans/press/organizations are terrified this non-American boxer might come in and take all the belts. That's why they ignore exciting non-American boxers for as long as they possibly can and try to paint them as newcomers when they finally get their chance, even though they often have amazing resumes.

Yeah, has to be some sort of early April Fools joke. Lennox beat: Vitali Klitchko Evander Holyfield Mike Tyson David Tua Frank Bruno Tony Tucker Ray Mercer Shannon Briggs Tommy Morrison Michael Grant. Calzaghe doesn't even have a third of this resume + struggled against hopkins & robin reid - 2 fights that were split decisions, with no rematch. This is partly why Joe doesn't get the same flowers as other fighters from this era. Like a Tyson, Oscar, Hopkins, Roy, Klitschko or Lewis.

Not really. Hopkins was a master at counter punching. You don't fight this level of fighter like that. You need to be smarter and pick your moments.

I lost all my respect for Hopkins when he said he refused to loose to a white man he actually showed his hidden racist heart

The worse showing of both these guys careers, neither of them showed up for the fight.

B-Hop used a lot of spoiling tactics. Hard to look good against a guy like that. Both legends though. If you're a patient boxing fan, there was a lot of great moments 😎

This fight have the record of hugs in a fights . Looks more to me like a dancing contest

That was a great statement Joe said 😂, he said i don't wanna lose to a,black ,green,blue,white brown, fighter either!!!

It's very frustrating to see the ref jump in to break up the fighters every time they get in close......unfortunately, this ref is helping Hopkins.. Let them fight, the holding is part of the fight....ref, stay out of it!

A thin line separates a technical fight from a lousy fight! This one is a classic example!

It's truly a mystery why Calzaghe was such an unsung legend during and since his invincible boxing career.

Because he was knownas a slapper, didn’t always connect clean with his punches and fought sub standard opponents or ones that where good 5-10 years ago I.e Hopkins Roy Jones jnr, that were past their prime I mean old man Hopkins gave him his hardest ever fight a split decision 🙄 that’s why maybe 🤔I mean other fighters Peter manfredo really 🙄🤦‍♂️ Kessler was half decent and younger but even tho he gave JC a tough fight was too inexperienced, Hopkins was just too experienced I.e too old!

Not much a mystery. He didn't fight in the U.S. till the end of his career. I'm sure he wasn't unknown in Europe.

There's no crying and running in boxing. Those who lost to Hopkins during his career would like a rematch after watching this.
