Skating has always been a dance, well, at least I've always found that style is a huge factor. Ballroom dancing, figure skating, etc can be sometimes too technical and soulless but what stands out is flow and so on. The true dance. Same with breakdancing, there can be a split between just pure power/technique and actual dancing/rythmn. But yeh, agree totally. Alos this sort of production is all about the flow of the skating, the dance, as it were. I dunno, it's kinda funny cos I'd say there's a lot of skaters that would hate the term 'dancer'. Machismo shit I guess. Yet would applaud one another not just for complex tricks but doing them with style! :)

I watched this a couple of years ago and being someone that spent their childhood skating, it had a real impact on me. A loss for what I had with rollerblading and a loss of my youth, the melancholy tone in this vid sent me back into memories and feelings long forgotten. I've come back to this video, a few years later as it's the day before I get back on the blades at 37 years old.

A couple reasons, at least in the US: 1. Got too popular and therefore became a fad 2. It's hard to get good and skate like the pros 3. General decline in overall physical activity due to video games and computers 4. Hate from the skateboarding community 5. Most of the publicity was on aggressive inline, which had an in your face and assertive vibe that alienated certain groups (women/lgbt) That said, I hope inline skating rises back up!

"Never try to force anything." Skating is no exception, and this exceptional video demonstrates that truism perfectly. Alan Watts (quoted), like Manly P. Hall, have been a major source of inspiration throughout my life. For me, skating taught me everything I needed to know about being and nothingness before I even understood what those things were. Mastering a pair of skates is one of the true tests in the path of spiritual awakening. It's also one of the freest forms of expression, which is why I miss it so much. Watching these awesome skate videos makes me want to put on my skates and find my inner flow again.

Beautiful! Getting back into skating at 40, uh oh! And was thinking I'd like to get more into bowl skating (there's one near where I live). When I was skating a lot, 23 years ago, Dublin (Ireland) had barely any skateparks. Also they kept being shut down because parents would sue them, 'sigh'. Even though they would drop their kids there. But one broken bone and sue, sue, sue. But now, public parks in Dublin have a fair few small but decent enough parks. Ha, those times you think: "Damn, if only that was around when I was a kid!". But fuck it, I figure if I pretend I'm not 40 all should be good....cut to me in a wheelchair, lol! But yeh, this is beautiful and inspiring! Kudos to the skater and film! :)
