Dr. Mathew Provencher was an orthopedic surgeon who worked in Naval Special Warfare and various professional sports teams. He remembers Jonny Kim "extremely well" when he was an enlisted SEAL corpsman. He was the medical officer on his officer board with Jocko Willink, and they both "gave the best recommendations [they] possibly could". They remember he always had an attitude of wanting to help out. When Jonny attended the University of San Diego, he visited Dr. Provencher again as a pre-med student volunteering at Balboa Naval Hospital. When Jonny was a student at Harvard Medical School, he again visited Dr. Provencher's clinic in Boston, and even in operating rooms. According to him, Jonny would "randomly show up" and they published research papers together. It amazes him to see him grow having known him as just an enlisted SEAL, and now as an astronaut and knowing his personal story. "I'm incredibly proud of who [Jonny Kim] represents."
