It's a statement that preys on people's ignorance. Unfortunately investigations, (even outside of the military and law) don't always uncover the truth. A good military example of that is the Vietnam war where many soldiers would frag their NCOs and officers when they were being bad leaders, the investigations / judgements usually ended up with nothing or slaps on the wrist to the perpetrators.

@@eliteviktor3Agreed. Jocko is typically pretty humble about himself and talks others up. When he does talk about himself, it's usually in regards to discipline, which he definitely seems to have. What I think this all comes down to is differences in style and that these accusations are coming from sources without first hand knowledge who just didn't like TU Bruiser's style. I've witnessed plenty of conventional guys get hot under the collar with SOF because SOF guys didn't adhere to the uniform rules, didn't follow the grooming standard, didn't wear PT belts on Disney Drive, etc. To a conventional Army or Marine unit, these are all signs of unprofessionalism or lacking discipline. So I can see some conventional marine officer being unhappy seeing some SOF guys having punisher skulls on their gear and assuming that they are cowboys.

I used to have a patch for my hat. It was an American flag (I'm a veteran) with a punisher skull (I'm a punisher fan, old comics, not new ones). I was at the VA, and an older guy (I served 2007-2015) came up to me and asked if I was with the punisher in a slightly aggressive tone. I told him no, I'm a punisher fan, and he stomped off. After hearing these accusations and seeing his reaction to what I now understand was one of their unit symbols, I feel like there is some truth to them at the very minimum.

US LEOs also adopted the skull around the same time. The symbolism & associated mentality it promotes is totally consistent w/ the concurrent militarization of policing, "wartime" posture, & culture of steroids, escalating violence, silence, & imputinity that we've seen. Not too dissimilar to what these marines were describing. Post 911, US police began to view & treat American civilians like a hostile foreign population. "Force Protection" over all else, including the mission, the public, or the law. Only heightening tensions w/ the communities they're supposed to be serving. Even if one was unfamiliar w/ the comic, such symbols of death are absolutely meant to intimidate & strike fear into a population. But if one *were* to consider the actual source, the comic itself, it's a far darker & more troubling message. So much so that "Punisher" co-creator Gerry Conway even felt compelled to speak out & express his disgust w/ the practice, outlining why exactly it's so wildly inappropriate for professional upholders of the Constitution to be donning the symbol of a vigilante famous for extrajudicial murder & torture.

After a short turnaround following the operation in Fallujah, 3/8 was deployed from March to October 2006 to Ramadi, Iraq. Like many units that preceded 3/8, they quickly learned that Ramadi was one of the most dangerous cities in the Iraq War. Assigned to U.S. Army’s 1st Armor Division, 3rd Battalion 8th Marines were charged with securing the city's center. This deployment quickly became a constant, day-to-day, urban combat battle against a well-supplied insurgency. In less than 6 months, the Battalion lost 17 Marines and Sailors, KIA, and sustained over 240 casualties. For this deployment, 3/8 was awarded a Navy Unit Commendation.

The Seals are being turned into a soap opera. I had purchased Jocko's "Total Ownership" on Audible and found it compelling even if he hasn't practiced what he preached. I've never followed him on social media. I don't know enough about the ins and outs of the military to hold a valid opinion and, unlike a large segment of the population, social media participants or otherwise, if I don't have sufficient information to have an opinion, I won't take a position. But it's very disturbing to see what has been reputed to be the best we have in terms of warfighting, close combat, and representing the U.S. engaged in drama queen behavior, though the stakes are extremely high in this case. If the accusations against him are true, Jocko Willink should pay the price. If Eric's accusations are false, he should be held accountable.

Mr Ballen’s interview with Shawn Ryan also gives credence to this being the case - his description of his deployment, leadership, and what led up to his near-fatal injuries in combat suggest that this was a serious problem with the SEALs during this timeframe.

He did his job with pride. Wasn't about records. He used no special weapons, range finders, etc. Kyle lied about shooting ppl after Katrina. Allegedly shot through a baby to kill a man. It's disgusting. We was sold a lie with his story and Lattrells. Why we say question everything. I have respect for these men as they did earn the title as we all had to. But padding a tall tale and outright lying is 2 very different things. Why it's said never meet your heros. I have more respect for a man if he admits his mistakes and learns from them and does better. Why he'd lie about Jesse, Katrina, kills, idk. Why take a marine with severe ptsd to a shooting range is just dumb. Never put a weapon in a mentally ill person's hands. He didn't deserve to die. He should answer to these claims. I know from my experience in USMC that alot of things don't go up the chain. It's handled by NCOs. We wasn't there. We don't know. His claim to have been on top of the stadium shooting looters during Katrina, again just an outlandish, proven false, psychotic thing to say for a pathological liar. All that points to crazy and unhinged, but then he's also the sniper with the most kills in a war where other snipers got like tens of kills, he some how got hundreds. From the most recent Green Bret Chronicles video that had two Marine officers. It is obvious that Task Force Bruiser was doing what was talked about. Especially operating in other units area's with out letting those units know they were operating in that area. Also meeting with the leadership of Task Force Bruiser. I.E. Jocko Wilink basically told those units to go kick rocks. I also found it interesting that Jocko only went out one time on a op while they were at Ramidi. As far as Chris Kyle. From what was said he definitely took out civilian targets that were not bad guys. The author of the letter was one of the Marine officers and said it was legit. Anyone who has not seen the most recent video. You need to go watch it. It reaffirms the allegations laid down against Jocko Wilink, Chris Kyle and Task Force Bruiser how they operated and possible crimes committed. I highly doubt Jocko would go on the Green Bret Chronicles. Nor do I think other members of Task Force Bruiser would come forward. Because if the allegations are true. Those former members have to much to loose.

That's a little weird about the flashlight comment because I'm an Army vet and every single soldier had a flashlight, I cant imagine a soldier without one so I have to imagine Marines were the same and everyone had a flashlight. This isn't the only accusation about SEALs lately like the story about Marcus Luttrell and Rob O'Neill, hopefully its not true but its seriously messed up if it is.

So a few things popped into my head. I think he was talking about the Iraqis when talking about flashlights and NVGs. As for Marines, we had stuff, but as always, never enough or as good as our army brothers. At least not in the early stages of the war. For example my best friend got wounded in the battle of Najaf with C 1/4. His guys did not have enough weapons mounted lights for everyone, even though they were engaged in heavy urban combat. Also in this stage (2005ish) I don’t think everyone had NVGs and definitely not everyone had ACOGs or any optics. I was there in 2006-07 and we had a good amount of stuff by then.
