@@tony39780 It depends on your command. Usually for a Gunners Mate you are 4 years on Sea duty, and 2 on shore duty. You dont have to do shore duty, you can rotate back to sea duty.

There’s so many different GMs or even billets for GMs. There’s an entire side for expeditionary and spec war. It would be a long video. But if anyone has any questions I’m down to answer. I’m currently at an EOD command.

How do I get attached to a spec war or expeditionary unit as a GM? I just signed up for that rate but don’t want to just sit on a ship looking at and cleaning guns for 5 years. I want to get out in units and get some tactical training in.

Ok we also do more then this. We sweep rain off the weather deck. Always stay later then any other rate while were in port. And work harder then anyone else. I also come from a DDG (workhorse of the navy) but were also the tightest nit group of the ship an embrace the suck everyday. One of the more accurate videos ive seen though. We definitely clean guns alot. But theres more to it then whats described here

Why as a corpsman would you want to be a gunner's mate? As a corpsman, I was attached to 3rd BN 11th Marines. As one of two docs, we did everything a Marine does. We patrolled and fired everything that was available and carried a 9mm Beretta as a sidearm. Qualifed on M16 and even tossed grenades. Can even jump in the gun crew for artillery. My point is as a corpsman, you can go as hard as you want on the greenside. Now being a GM is cool but so is HM.
