Building on the core technology of our TW5 thin-line subwoofers, the new TW3's deliver a powerful combination of shallow mounting depth and excursion capability. In fact, they are capable of greater excursion than the W3v3's.
To allow this remarkable feat to be achieved, JL Audio's patented thin-line woofer technology compresses the architecture of the TW3's using a "concentric tube" structure built into the injection-molded cone body. This structure supports the voice coil and a full annular spider, while permitting the placement of the large motor structure further forward in the speaker than with conventional designs.
TW3's are optimized for small enclosures and offer our tab-ear mounting design to maximize cone area within their mounting footprints. We know you're going to love working with these amazing subwoofer drivers.
Deep, powerful and accurate JL Audio bass is now possible in more applications than ever.
• Very shallow mounting depth (10-inch model: 3.25 / 3.50 Inches)
• No pole vent: permits mounting close to rear wall of enclosure.
• Very small sealed enclosure volume requirements
• Very long linear excursion capability (0.60 In / 15.2 mm, one-way)
• DMA-optimized motor designs
• Patented "concentric tube" architecture
• Patented "floating cone attach method" technology
• Cast alloy frame
• Injection molded, mica-filled polypropylene cone
• Rubber surround
• Aluminum-alloy dust cap and rear cap with JL Audio logo
• Precision-built in USA at JL Audio's Miramar, Florida factory

I do not know it you are still monitoring this thread, but I am having a set of Focal ES165KX3 installed in the doors of a 2005 Porsche 997 with a set of Focal 4” components in the rear all powered by a JL VX8008/1 with each channel powering an individual drive in the front and two of the channels powering the two rear speakers. I also plan to install to two 10TW3D8 in a sealed inclosure in the rear. I have two questions. 1) should these be down firing or not. 2) Is the XD600/1 a sufficient choice in light of the other equipment being installed or do I need to consider another amp with a built in low pass filter?

I installed 2 x 10" TW3 in a slotted ported box with the recommended volume size, added 16oz of poly-fill, each connected to dedicated JL Audio XD600_1v2 amps and WOW, one amp and sub would of been plenty in a 3rd gen Cadillac CTS Vsport People say JL is expensive, yes its true - but the quality of the hardware is amazing. Thanks JL for making quality products. But the Grilles are way too expensive, now you pushing it...

Hello. The 10TW3 woofer has a rated power handling of 400 watts, and we recommend using between 200-400 watts RMS per woofer. For three 10TW3-D4 models connected in a series/parallel configuration for a 2.67 ohm load, you'll want an amplifier capable of delivering between 600-1200 watts RMS at that load. The HD1200/1 would be a good match, rated at 1200 watts. The HD750/1 would also work well with slightly less output potential with 750 watts. Other options include the VX1000/1i, the XD1000/1v2, and the RD1000/1.

Looking to power a system with 4 speakers and 1 subwoofer (10tw3) which would be best a VX700/5i (300rms x 1) or VX1000/5i (600rms x 1), is it better to have a larger amp dialed down or a smaller amp running at max rms? Any efficiency, reliability, or heating benefits? Another option could be the HD 900/5 (500rms x 1) but Im leaning towards the new amps with built in dsp.

Hello. The TW3 woofers have a rated power handling of 400 watts, and we recommend using between 200-400 watts RMS per woofer. If you plan to purchase a pair of the 10TW3-D4 woofers, connect them in a series/parallel configuration and use an amplifier that will deliver between 400-800 watts RMS at 4 ohms. The HD750/1 would be a great match, rated at 750 watts to any load between 1.5-4 ohms.

I have a 97 camaro with a sub enclosure very similar to the stealth box you guys make. Tge box has 0.75 cubic feet of air space and is a sealed enclosure. I'm currently running a 10" Kicker CompRT sub with a Kicker DX500.1 mono amp. I'm not very impressed with the Kicker sub and thought about switching it out for a JL Audio subwoofer. Would the 10TW3 or 10W3V3 be best for my application? I'm looking for the hardest hitting sub that will work with my enclosure.

  • @JLAudioInc

    @JLAudioInc

    7 жыл бұрын

Hello, you have plenty of air space for either subwoofer. If you have the depth, the 10W3v3 could be used without modifying the enclosure. Although the 10W3v3 spec volume is .625 I would normally suggest about 10 percent larger in a vehicle such as your Camaro. The 10TW3 does have greater excursion and cone are for a bit more potential than the 10W3v3, but you would need to reduce the internal volume of your enclosure to .60 cubic foot Gross volume and the mounting hole would need to be enlarged since the 10TW3 requires a cut out of 9.625 inches.

JL, I love the lower profile design but why do the VC Plugs protrude out past the inherent strength of the magnet/chassis. If one of those VC connectors were to bend inward at all would have be a bad thing? You can see what i'm talking about if you grab one of your 10/12 tw3 and take one VC plug and push the end towards the center of the speaker, it's squishy and moves quite easily. Is it bad if they were bent in?

The push terminal is technically within the perimeter of the frame mounting diameter and does not protrude past the frame depth of 3.25 inches (or 3.5 in the case of the 12TW3). This should be ample clearance for most applications. If you need more clearance you can actually remove the push terminals which would expose just the connection blades underneath. It is rare that you should need to do that, but you could if you were pressed for space.

The TW3 is a very reliable subwoofer when played within its optimal 300-400 watts. At 600 watts you are well above the rms rating of the subwoofer which could be risky depending upon how loud you play the system and what type of music. I would dial the amplifier back a bit to help protect the speaker.

How did you determine if it is running at the 250 watt range? We do not hear of failures when run at optimal power. If it has a defect that caused the failure it would be covered under warranty as long as it was purchased through an authorized dealer and you still have the proof of purchase.

The sub was covered under warranty as I just got a replacement 2 days ago, However since it was running well below its limits and was properly installed using all JL Audio products I fine it weird that it did fail & now question the reliability of this replacement unit I got which I'm assuming is a refurbished unit.

Thank you for your question. There is not a ton of output difference between the 10 and 12 inch Tw3 subwoofers. The larger cone area of the 12" will allow you have a more efficient system on the same power vs a 10" subwoofer. For a difference of only 40 dollars you can't really go wrong so long as the space is there and your budget allows for it.

I purchased two of these for my '08 Tacoma to replace two Pioneer TSSW251 subs (I burnt both Pioneers motors completely after excessive output). I'm reusing the sealed box after a minor modification which has 1.2 cubic foot of air space. I wired the JL's in series for a final of 4ohm to my amp. What I'm noticing is that there's a popping coming from the JL's at high but comfortable listening volume, well within wattage specs. My old subs, though destroyed now, would be otherwise fine at the same volume. I know there's some wear-in time, but the popping cannot be good so I'm unable to listen at higher volumes until I can resolve this. Any ideas? Thank you.

that box is a whisker too big according to JL specs, however I would ask; is this a single enclosure, or a dual chamber enclosure (one for each sub)? Some subs prefer their own chamber. Not sure it'll solve your problem, just throwing out a consideration. Personally, i've never understood shallow subs as the enclosures most of them end up in would accommodate a decent conventional subwoofer or multiples of a smaller size.

@SuperBubba360, no these can be used in any application. The TW3's actually outperform the full size W3v3's. They just happen to have the added advantage of a more shallow depth and less air space requirements. They will work great in any vehicle.

  • @JLAudioInc

    @JLAudioInc

Hello, 12TW3-D4 model subwoofers are recommended for power input levels ranging from 200 to 400 watts each. We recommend a monoblock amplifier that can deliver anywhere from 400 watts to 800 watts RMS into a 4 ohm mono load. First, wire the voice coils on each subwoofer into a series configuration, then wire the two subwoofers together in parallel to either our JX1000/1D (500 watts at 4 ohms), RD1000/1 (600 watts at 4 ohms), XD1000/1v2 (600 watts at 4 ohms), 600/1v3 (600 watts at 4 ohms), or HD750/1 (750 watts at 4 ohms).

It is tricky to invert a TW3 since it doesn't have a flat flange. If you can make a custom flange for it and invert it then it should sound about the same as being mounted normally.

If you're referring to the SB-J-JK2DR/10W1v3 model that installs on the floor of the cargo space, you don't need that much power. The 10W1v3 woofer that comes loaded in the enclosure has a rated power handling of 300 watts.

Hello. The TW3 woofer has a rated power handling of 400 watts, and we recommend using between 200-400 watts RMS per woofer. If you have a pair of the 10TW3-D4 models connected in a series/parallel configuration for a 4 ohm load, you'll want an amplifier capable of delivering between 400-800 watts RMS at 4 ohms. The HD750/1 would be a great match, rated at 750 watts RMS.

Ok just got the stealthbox with two of these 12's as a midgate in my chevy avalanche. Have a kenwood XR-1000 powering them. Does not meet my expectations for the money I spent. My last stereo was a best buy special but it was in my civic truck n slammed. I assumed jl audio and the money I blew would rock my ear drums. The coils keep smelling and I keep getting told they are breaking in, I think that's bullshit but I figure I'm gonna fucking blast them and if they blow u have 2 year warranty. I was told 100 hours playtime to break in lol what a fucking joke. Either wired/setup wrong or fake subs from a Jl authorized dealer. Maybe I should have got custom ported box and 2 12inch W6's instead...woulda been same price and sounded better from what I'm told. If anyone can tell me they should sound weak and smell funny everytime I play them please help. I'm at about 30 hours playtime and never play to distortion and kepp bassknob below halfway out of paranoia. And does fiberglass stealthox feel like metal? Ok any help would be awesome.

  • @facebookmakesmesick

TransmissionLineDesigns- well basically I never had a truck before, cars were easy...so the midgate box seemed like a good idea, and I was told that's only options from a few places. Wish I knew then what I know now and would have gotten custom made ported box for alot cheaper. I just assumed with a top name brand like JL that it hit pretty clean and hard. Didn't occur to me that the jl authorized professional car installers may wire it all incorrectly and have my coils stinking n smelling like shit. I have no knowledge on this really but assume from what I've been told that they set gains too high and a few other things. My expectations were to have a top quality system that shakes my car. My last system was cheap as shit and not that great but it shook my car and sounded great and lasted 10 years. Maybe they are out of phase another term I've learned recently. I'm sorry are 2 12inch Jl subs in a fiberglass stealthbox with good amp supposed to sound like shit? Forget about the money I spent, I've heard a single 10 or 12 sub that sounds harder and better than mine. Something is wrong and unless they are totally installed wrong and when they are properly wired they sound alot better than I'm extremely dissatisfied with JL audio. The money they charge and if that's there quality then I'm disgusted. I should have gotten 400 custom ported box and any other 12 inch subs. Jesus christ 2 12's facing you behind your seat shouldn't you feel the bass and have it sound good I mean WTF. I may just return the entire unit if even possible.

However, you should be able to still get a good price for it. If you're handy with the power tools and if you give me some dimensions I can draw some plans up. I replaced a JL Audio 12W6v3 ($599) with a Sundown SA-12 ($214) and the Sundown absolutely trounced the JL in all respects.... and for gentile music the SA sounded far better as well. Hands up i'm not a bass head, but its nice to show off once in a while. Please don't take me for a hater. I do love JL, but I'm afraid in the this climate, there are far too many better options for a lot lot less money. If you're set on keeping the subs, I can throw some design ideas your way. JL are good, but its obvious that you need something different to what JL is offering.

The TW3 woofers have a rated power handling of 400 watts, and we recommend using anything between 200-400 watts RMS. We would not advise using 600 watts on a single woofer, risking damage and voiding the manufacturer's warranty. If you're not getting good performance with half that power, you've done something wrong.

A doubling of power is good for only 3 dB of additional output, which is hardly noticeable. Reducing the reliability for such a small change is not something we'd ever recommend doing.

I understand the recommend part of that. I have owned a bunch of JL equipment. I have never seen any of your woofers perform anywhere close to their capacity at rated power. Just look at the specs on the w7, 750 Watts. That seems way too low to me. I have personally seen them perform flawlessly at 2k.

  • @JLAudioInc

It really depends on the user. A moderate listener with a dynamic track that has a high crest factor can can get away with additional power. The voice coil is almost never getting all of it, and the power it does get is for a very short duration. There's nothing wrong with headroom. A more abusive listener with a track that's already near clipping in the recording is going to have problems with too much power. Power over time into a voice coil generates heat, hence the thermal power handling specification. This is why we provide a recommended power range for all of our speakers and subwoofers.

They don't flow air "through" it. The heat from the voice coil will travel through the vents towards the aluminum dustcap. The dust cap will absorb the heat and dissipate it into the cooler outside air. It's just like a heatsink from an amp. Or even a car's radiator.

Once your dealer can verify fitment and make the enclosure for you, having the woofer fire through the rear deck would work quite well.
