"I can't think of anything particularly bad about my life right now." How things have changed. I wish and sincerely hope there will come a time, sooner than later, when she can say the same about her life again. I stand by her and will forever respect her.

Indeed.
Wow this interview was all over the place. Not to mention some of the questions seemed ind of rude and inappropriate. 50 Shade of Gray? Honestly why was that trash brought up.
Thank you J K Rowling, for shining a light in my mediocre middle age, and most of all for choosing what is right over what is easy.
The woman gets a chance to talk to JK ROWLING...and asks her has she read 50 shades. Oh dear

It's more likely that someone else wrote that up. That's how interviews usually work on TV.
She is such a fascinating individual. I could sit and talk to HER for weeks and indeed hope I get a chance to speak with her in a one-on-one setting, maybe not for quite that long, at some point in my life.
Thx for creating a little bit of magic in my childhood, Jo.

SAME! I feel you
I love Jo! But I was quite disappointed in the interviewer. She kept speaking over Jo, asked some uncomfortable questions and just seemed slightly rude to me :(
-Do u enjoy being interviewed? -Not particularly LOL THE QUEEN LADIES AND GENTLEMAN
horrible interview questions! some of them came off as borderline rude and definitely awkward...

I thought the interviewer had no connection to the interview. It’s like 20 questions without actually getting anywhere.
You can tell, she got so used to giving interviews. She was very reserved at her first interviews.
I adore her reaction when the interviewer asked her about 50 Shades of Grey. It`s awesome to know that she too sees that this book is complete rubbish.
I watched this interview and still couldn't believe me and my friend got to meet and speak with her on the day the book came out. She's one of the most down to earth people I've ever met!
She says she's "least writerly" at home, which I'm sure is true, but that said, she does seem unable to turn off the writer's mindset. Which is a good thing! :) Particularly I'm talking about her response the question of whether there are any children who can't possibly be led to enjoy books. You might notice she looked at the issue from at least 3 possible angles, even interrupting the next question to ensure she considered it in its entirety. That is a writer's talent: being able to see everything that could possibly be and how to get every possibility to its ultimate end.
"Have you read 50 Shades of Grey?" Wow, way to date the interview, there.
The interviewer had a chance to actually talk to her and she is asking abt 50 shades of grey..!!!!! Why...!!!
The interviewer did an exceptional job. Not only by asking someone like J.K. Rowling new questions but there is a flow to the whole interview. This could probably pass as better than Oprah's.
She is gorgeous... I can't get over how beautiful and classy she is, I think she has a very special & powerful aura.
I can watch this woman talk all day. JKR. The stuff she says....maybe because her writing has influenced my thinking so much, but I just find her thoughts, sense of humor, etc extremely enthralling.
JK Rowling is a icon, embodies so much intelligence and elegance. The questions were superb, probing and her answers were insightful. A women of much mystery and liking her pet name something perhaps many can relate to.
She's so elegant and lovely. I love listening to her talk.
"bahahah what's the worst thing about your life today?"
I'm American and I've always pronounced her name the right way, even when people said I was wrong. To those people, I say "I told you so"
J.K Rowling is one of the most inspirational authors she is my favourite
People said I would never enjoy reading books because of my dyslexia but i over come that by reading the HP books, they taught me how to read and got me into reading and eventually writing.
The interviewer is so creepy and such weird questions
0:16 Wow..That sounds as if she's being questioned by a psychiatrist.. :P

I agree. I have both, I think the kindle is great for travelling, and for reading books that you wouldn't normally buy. But my shelves are FULL of actual books and I would NEVER get rid of them or stop buying them. Can you imagine never turning a page in a book again? Madness!
Utterly inspirational. :) Thanks for this interview!
I loved this interview, very informative.
ahhhh i could listen to her talk for days...
gave me a childhood
in 04:15 what is the name of the writer? I don't know how to write it, I can't really hear it properly because of the accent (I'M german)
...and then she did write a crime novel.

And I thank her for that!
I’m 35 years and I’ve never read a book from start to finish. I can’t believe I’m admitting that but it’s true
Lol then she went on to write Cormoran Strike
I have both an eReader and I also love paper books. I use my electronic books when I go away for a weekend or on holiday but I love to have a physical book in my hands at home. So I advocate both. Also your electronic devices can also hold audiobooks for those that find reading difficult.
What's the name of the children book author she is talking about at 4:06 ?
JK: "People need to be put down... Me: WHAT!? JK: "-put to bed Me: Oh thank Christ
Have you tried the audiobooks? They're delightful.
Interesting questions, nice interview.
Thanks, Jo.
I with JK on liking to read a physical book compared to the kindle. I would rather pay the extra for a book than have a kindle.
She said Song of Apollo, but I feel as though she meant Song of Achilles, since there is no Song of Apollo and Song of Achilles was huge this year.
I am actually surprised by how good this interview was! A lot of unique questions for once! Real good job!
I do like that some of these questions are unusual -- they don't follow the usual format.
i love physical books too! turning pages
I like this interview. There's some interview questions and the interviewer is calm and quiet and focused on Ms.Rowling instead of making the interview about herself or trying to be all jokey or buddy-buddies with the celeb.
When was this interview taken
Wow this interviewer asked some really awkward/rude questions. >.o On the e-reader topic, personally I adore my e-reader. We live in a very small house and simply do not have space for the number of books I plow through in a year. Plus I love to read in bed, but having a light turned on interferes with my hubby's sleep, so the Kindle Paperwhite is really the best thing in the world for me. We do have a couple of bookcases with our absolute favorite books, but the e-readers are so practical for keeping the clutter down (my mom is a compulsive hoarder, so I'm very sensitive about clutter).
i guess it is good that she asked about jk's opinion on 50 shades. it's a curiosity of the many. so as a journalist, she can represent the curious people.
Same lol I'm Canadian though, but i also noticed that both of the ABC GMA anchors pronounced it correctly.
What was Rowling's answer to the best novel she's read in the last year. I thought she said Song of Apollo, but I can't seem to find it. Help?

She said later she had got the name wrong in several interviews - what she actually intended to say was 'The Song of Achilles' by Madeline Miller.
I thought she was a fantastic interviewer really cool and collected whilst also managing to be somewhat funny :P
Kindle's impact on publishing books? Thats an interesting question. To me, the Kindle, or more exactly the digital distribution, is just the future. Yea, there is a certain appeal to a physical book, but in the end, it is just a question of quality and convenience, until the printed book will go the same route, the tape, record, cd and dvd have gone before.
I was honestly so confused when the interviewer asked who Jo had been most startruck upon meeting because in my mind she is the most famous person to meet and be star stricken with. To me, there is no one above her.

I love the fact that the Fantastic Beasts protagonists (which includes the Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne) were also star-struck/nervous when they first met her.
lol Jo was like "the worst thing right now is that i don't have any food on the fridge for dinner" like telling the interviewer sorry you can't stay for dinner tonight :D lol
I wonder if all the commentors saying the interview is creepy are from the USA? US hosts are always so hyper and the audience is sceaming. Nothing wrong with that, but from European point of view that can come off looking a bit fake and forced. This is just a regular calm interview.

ProteaAurea No, I don't think this is the reason people say this is a creepy interview. I am from Slovenia (so Europe) and I find it weird because of the questions which seem random, not connected. And also some of the questions I feel are downright rude.

I’m from the US. I think the interviewer is asking questions that are just plain irrelevant. For one thing fifty shades of gray is not a big deal and to be asking such an established author if they’ve read a popular book that’s about sexuality preferences is just in bad taste. US hosts also have various audiences so that might be a generalization that they’re all hyper, because there’s quite a few that not like that at all.

The first two questions are "What's the worst thing in your life?" and "What keeps you up at night?" That shows all the difference right there 😂
I know what that feels like, it took me along time but then it just clicked, I suggest, to make it easier for you to learn that you get the audio version of the book and read along with it, or get someone to read it to you and you follow along in your book, that way you can learn the words.
What's the title of the novel she said to have read this read??
what was the book she liked called? "song of a poem?"
Can't wait 'till tomorrow :3
Good to know I'm not the only one who hasn't read Fifty Shades of Grey. LOL The questions are weird. Love the idea of the pen name for privacy sake. She's a billionaire and there's no food in the fridge for supper. Just goes to show you that people are just people and life happens and you get busy and can't get everything done.
1:55 when she said "Song of Apollo" she actually meant "Song of Achilles"

Amie thank you jk roling for the harry potter story
Its such a great interview. The guarian interviewer is amazing!
The Harry Potter books got me reading again when I was younger :)
Love her! so grounded, stayed a real person even after all the money and fame and only wants to be appreciated for her work.
I love jk rowling and can't wait for school to be over tomorrow so I can go buy her new book!
@Schakalaka1234 E.Nesbit, I think she was the author of the railway children :)
Me too!
anyone who doesn't talk over her guests is better than Oprah.
It's the guardian
very uncomfortable interview
She has such a beautiful, peaceful voice, it sends me to sleep :) x
Ugh. I love this woman so much.
"There were rumors you were writing a crime novel." He he if you only knew....
Great questions!
What are these questions?
that laugh after Trollope
I would give anything to meet her some day, and I won't say it's impossible. I could talk to her about loads of stuff.
I believe we now know the children’s political novel is The Ickabog. Can we say that with confidence?

Actually their style is very different they should NEVER be compared jk XD :D
Since JK brought it up I think Rowling (almost sounding like rolling) is a pleasant sounding name..its ROWLing that I think would be awful sounding lol
thank God J.K. Rolling wont read that cheap book called 50 shades of Gray!
i dont mind the joking buddy buddy thing as long as there is actual dialogue going on.
Song of Apollo
0:41 she looks really funny
What an elegant Mrs. Rowling))))) ... Pretty Woman)) !!
I know it's "ROLLING" my teachers corrected me to R uh ow ing
"What's the worst thing about your life today?" Whoa, what a negative way to start an interview! Besides that, Jo is my role model, and I believe in everything she has said.
I think it was Edith Nesbit, but I'm not sure :) x
Harry Potter taught me to learn to love to read!!! :)
I can just picture J.K. Rowling facepalm after reading 50 Shades of Grey.
Which way will you vote in the Scottish Referendum?
