    I wore out two of the bells. This was when children played outside in healthy, wholesale activities. We thought TV was weird and the only thing on in the afternoon was Gomer Pyle and McCale's Navy. Not for us girls!

    This has probably been online forever and I am just finding it. I am impressed. I grew up in a poor family and remember this was the only thing I wanted as a child, likely because of this commercial. I got one for my birthday - no child happier!

    I absolutely remember this commercial and the Jingle Jump song! I lived in NY at the time and was 10 years old. All my school friends and I would do the jingle jump together. I think it cost $1.99 at the time. We wore ours out and I always thought it was a great toy. If we weren't jingle jumping, we were playing with our large assortment of troll dolls, which I will always remember with a smile. Ahh, the fond memories of being an innocent kid in 1965 just having plain old fun. I will always remember the Jingle Jump lilt--Everybody's doing...THE JINGLE JUMP!!! Yah!

    A PBS documentary on string bassist Ben Tucker brought me here. He did something related to Jingle Jump music. I grew up in the 60's and never noticed this toy, and decided I had to look it up. Always finding something new, that was old.

  • @johnaddeo2251
    @johnaddeo22516 жыл бұрын

    There was a much simpler version of this toy that was just a plastic ring that went over your foot and around the ankle. I think it also had a bell inside the part you skipped over. This one was thought out very poorly. More prone to injury and unnecessarily difficult to attach to heel, as opposed to just slipping around ankle.

    @@cachickadee There's been a few ring around the ankle skipping toys that were released over the years by different companies under different names and different designs. Possibly most successful and most well known of these toys is Skip-It, first released in the 1980s, which has a ball attached to it that's shaped somewhat like a flying saucer. Skip-It was re-released in the 1990s with a counter on the ball to count the number of skips and that version sold twice as much as the original.

    I remember seeing the version(s) with the ring, but since they were much later versions of the original (Jingle Jump), I always considered them inferior imitations. Obviously, if we can't remember their names, they couldn't have been nearly as popular. The JJ jingle had some truth to it: Everybody (at least at OUR school) WAS doing the Jingle Jump!

    Golly! That's really neat! Which kids were you? I had one of these once-not during the time that it came out though, seeing that it came out in March of '65. I was born in July of 1965, so this commercial is just a little bit older than me. About 20 or so years ago I bought a Jingle Jump at an antique store for eight dollars. I bought it mainly for the box and the "bragging rights"- you know, just to be able to say "I got one of those!" whenever I saw the commercial. (I have an edited version of it on one of my DVDs!) I could never actually play with it in the manner intended because it was too small for me! Unfortunately I lost my Jingle Jump several years ago, probably when I moved in 2001. Was there ever any safety issues with the toy that you know of? Just curious!

    My sister is at :24 and :43, I'm wearing argyle socks in one scene and was near the end at :48. No safety issues that we knew of at the time. If worn properly, it was tough to trip using it.

    Looks like a toy that came out a few years later called Footsie (with a similarly catchy, more late-60s pop jingle - "Footsieeee, yeah/Everybody's havin fun/Footsieeeee, yeah/I'm gonna get me one"). I was still a baby when this came out so I don't remember it but when I saw the commercial I was like, That's Footsie. What goes around........
